1800km highway run is amazing to say the least. I don't think that you will face any issues in the plains. However, i do have concerns about your mountain riding experience. Sometimes, while pushing the clock, people tend to make mistakes or take risks and this can backfire pretty hard there. I would suggest you do some extensive hill riding wherever you get the opportunity. And no, mountain riding is not about how good you do cornering .
Also, have you considered the weather in various parts of the country at that time ?

I myself ride an R15 and can safely say that if i had to rush across Bombay-Bangalore, i wouldn't even give a thought to anyother motorcycle in the price range of ~1L even a distant thought, but a cross-country run on varied surfaces might need another motorcycle
*R15 is a track motorcycle after all and you can always take an off-roader on a track for fun and you shall have it in loads but a track bike on the most inhospitable of terrains, certainly not

buddy all the best.... dude... pls do not give it a rethink.... these sort of things doesn't strike twice in your mind... so just do it

One sincere advice.... i think 2 of the days in your schedule falls on a weekend....

on my experience.... on the run-up to the weekend and the weekend, you'll see a lot of highway traffic.. with lot of people travelling to their homes and a lot of goods movement.....

pls try to do it over the week itself..... do think about it...

The army allows people to scale Khardungla in a stipulated time limit. I think it is between 8 am and 5 pm. So plan accordingly. Shared jeeps do Manali - leh in 18 hours. You can do khardungla - Manali in 16 hours, but for that you will have to scale baralacha la at night, so be careful.

Be prepared to face a lot of 'icy' streams that become strong in the late-afternoon/evenings. And if you scale Baralacha la in the night, be prepared to face one just before the pass.
All men dream, but not equally. Those that dream at night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. - T. E. Lawrence

I am worried about the same too. Unfortunately down here in Hyd, there are hardly any hills to gain any experience at all .

I am aware of the IBA saddle sore. When I did the 1800 odd k, it was more outa of a necessity other than anything else. Had to make it for my Bro's bday and rush back fr office

Wow...Good Luck to Arnob and it should be pretty exciting.

However, the link from Motoroid claims that, ""

To my knowledge, it aint true. T

I have already E mailed Motoroids about the same and also had a word with Motoroids Hyd Moto rep - Prabhakar. Should be interesting to see, what;s the out come on the debate of who holds the current record

There is a big mistake here. The current K2K record is held by Pankaj Trivedi and Karanbir Singh Bedi. Overdrive magazine did a record run last year and they did it in around 130 hours.

The key element here is the reliability of the R15. We did a 800kms non-stop run on the R15 and the front rim chipped a piece of the sidewall under stress and we had to use a tube for the rest of the way.

if this happens to you on the way between manali and leh, it might be a BIG BIG issue.

Yes that is indeed correct - I have the 2010 edition and it says as much.

Doing it in 4 days flat - BIG challenge. Cutting down every single hour by each adventurer will take alot of skill!

Dude... Go for it.. Chuck the office..
I know that you can push yourself to crazy limits and are mad & crazier than me. You can do it trust me..!
Coming to R15 doing the off roading.. Yes it can do it.. But would be tiring & slower when compared to the other bikes with higher ground clearance, comfort oriented riding stance, harder and wider tires & blah blah...
I'll teach you all the repairs which you might have to do enroute.
R15 being fuel injected wont have much of a problem compared to its carbed counterparts. You can adjust the mixture to lean when in Delhi or Chandigarh.

PS- try for a sponsor for me aswell.. I'll also join you..
