        25th May

Got up at 08:00 Hrs, freshened up and the destination was decided has to reach Banihal by the end of the day......but destiny had something else stored for us.

Started at 10.00 Hrs from Hotel Asia in Pathankot and hit the Pathankot Jammu Highway crossed Kathua and had Lunch at 12.00 Hrs. Reached Jammu and 12.45 Hrs and took the Jammu Bypass now the weather started changing as we hit the Mountains it was a fully tarmacked road with ups and downs it was a real fun driving on such roads cruised at 75 Kmph it was getting darker by the minute as we reached the Nagrota Bypass at that point we knew Banihal was out of reach, so decided to halt at whichever place where the weather turns bad took the Udhampur Bypass and it was became more darker, it seemd like night 8 o'clock at 3 o'clock in Udhampur.

Dense cloud cover accompanied by winds crossed Udhampur city via bypass so Backtracked into the city to break the day in Udhampur as it would have been foolish to drive in such low light ......with a visually impaired bike that of Dushyant aka (Blunder with his Thunder)........As soon as we checked into the hotel Hailstones started falling the size was of ice cubes from the refrigerator at about 17.30 Hrs the sky opened up ventured bravely into the city which was still being battered by Lightning strikes everywhere to gather some food and OMR. Saw many horrifying sites electric poles lying on the National Highway with Live wires and water flowing over it..........Had dinner at 19:00 Hrs and hit the bed at 20:30 ............

        Distance travelled
        170 Kms

        Duration Taken
        5 Hrs

                      26th May

Today it was time to make up for yesterdays Backlog, and it was time to to hit Srinagar by the days end so after the 10 hr sleep it wastime to hit the road and the weather was great sun at its full glory no clouds.

Started at 08:00 Hrs Reached patnitop for our first butt break.......took some snaps and decided that we would have our Breakfast at a Dhaba overlooking the Baglihar Dam, but before we reached there one accident had to occur there was slush on the road and i was leading and saurav was behind me i indicated to saurav to slow down he noticed my indication and slowed down and signalled to Dushyant to slow down who was behind him.

As usual Dushyant in his own dreams didn't notice saurav's signal and applied his front disc of his thunderbird on the slush he went down i looked at my rear view mirror i could see him lying on the road.........waited for sometime and then proceeded to the Dhaba, had our Breakfast took snaps and decided to stop next after crossing the Banihal Tunnel (Jawahar Tunnel).

Reached there at 02.00 Hrs time for photography and head towards Qazigund for Lunch finished it and hit the plain road time to rip, but just before awantipora cops were standing and telling to go via a diversion which goes through the villages of kashmir because Jhelum was overflowing and bikes can easily be washed away only trucks were allowed, so took the diversion and reached srinagar checked into Qayam hotel in Baribrahmana cannt (Srinagar Cantt) at 16.30 Hrs and the remaining of the day was left to sightseeing and shikara ride on Dal. After the shikara as the sun went down so did the temperatures, so again time for OMR................

                                27th May

As Usual woke at 8:00 clock had our breakfast the climate was simply awesome with temperatures at 10*c and the sun shining it coudnrt have got better than this but we knew we are gonna get a taste of the fun enroute leh today as we will be crossing the Zojila Pass the first High altitude pass of our trip...........I have been to sonamarg 2 years ago during my first Kashmir trip so road upto Sonamarg was a familiar road....Started from Qayam at 9:00 Hrs just freshened up but didnt take a bath i didnt have the guts to wet myself in those chilled water as the heater wasnt working properly and i knew that i am not going to get a taste of a proper bath till i reach leh....... who cares till the time i have deo....................The best part here i was thinking of not even brushing my teeth due to the chillness of water and one guy from our group the great Blunder with his thunder had taken a bath and roaming in his undies from one room to another and he even had the guts to wash clothes with tide soap..............

Coming back to the trip the road from Srinagar to Sonamarg was flat out with little ups and downs along the banks of a river.......Entered Sonamarg had breakfast and went in search of CSD Canteen as i had a card and we wanted OMR Since we were going to cross the "Second Coldest Inhabited Place in the World" (Drass) and Drass was a Dry area (Beware !!) but we failed to Locate the canteen and it was time to Move on and cross Zojila Pass but 21 Kms fro Gumri and 5 Kms from S-0onamarg we were stopped by the Indian army guys saying that the pass was closed for 3 days and it has just now opened but you guys have to wait for atleast 3 Hrs since there were 400 Trucks held up at Gumri to cross into the Kashmir valley ..........so it was the waiting game after much of the trucks passed we sneaked through the incoming traffic at 14:30 Hrs and reached a point were a fresh Landslide had Happened.

It was 15.15 Hrs ad the major part of the pass was still remaining so enquired with a jawan and he said that a dozer needs to come from Gumri Rec post which was still 15 Kms so we decided to take the bikes over the landslide first was the Machismo of Vibhor wheels went inside the slush but with the help of Saurav,Dushyant,Aditya, Arun the machismo got out as we pushed it out of the slush and same was the case with all four of the remaining guys except Dushyants because as he was going to attempt the landslide crossing a scorpio of the J&K goverment tried to cross it but was stuck inbetween the landslide and the disturbance from the scorpio caused a new landslide which covered the entire bonnet of scorpio the vehicle was dead now it was 5 guys with their bikes on this side and one guy (Dushyant) on that side and it seemed impossible to cross it and Vibhor the leader said its better to move on catch up with Dushyant the next day in Drass and tell Dushyant to back off to Sonamarg but me,Aditya and Saurav didnt want to leave one of our member behind so against the wishes of the leader we told Dushyant we are not gonna leave you mate come what may, when people knew we were going to attempt it they said dont try u wont make it but we went ahead and finally crossed it by sleeping on the slush, all the muck on my face as i was behind the wheels. Thats the first time i felt the effects of AMS i was panting and sat down on the muddy road lack of oxygen i was blacking out but controlled my breathing and i was ok.headed to the Captains more place and saw a sign board on the right side in the valley at first i tought that the road goed through the valley below but later got to know that an avalanche had taken the big Board down into the valley horrifying scene crossed Zojilla but it had taken a toll water and slush inside my Hunter shoes in freezing temperature but got advise from vibhor not to remove the shoes as the water would freeze on my leg the instant it touches the air.......So i was constantly Moving my fingers and assuring myself yes it is stiull working .............Reached drass checked into the hotel rremoved the shoes and the leg was numb immediately oredered a stove and baked my legs, wow what relief i got "it was an heavenly feeling" Had dinner and dozed off at 21:00.....
