    Its little longer, but...
    1. Avoids Ahmedabad express highway where they don't allow bikes
    2. All super highway, no potholes nothing + you find fuel stations all through the way

Once you enter into Gujarat via Shamlaji, all you need to do is T.W.O all way upto Valsad; hope you know how to cross Mumbai, otherwise let me know.
Hi aargee...I was going through the route map you shared above, it does not go through Shamlaji. Am I correct in taking the Udaipur > Shamlaji > Modasa > Kapadvanj > Vaddodra?

Pls check if the route below is ok upto Pune without taking the expressway.

Udaipur, Rajasthan to Bengaluru, Karnataka - Google Maps

    - I have booked RTDC only at Jaipur, other places have made reservations.
    - Hoping to get tatkal tickets tomorrow

Being my first solo ride for such a long distance I am a bit nervous about most things..pls pardon any stupid questions

Just stick to NH8 and be happy. Before Ahmedabad, you will see a diversion on the ring road, its a bit confusing but a left there would send you to on track to Mumbai.

Sry if it confused, let me show you...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India to Vapi, Gujarat, India - Google Maps

        Route is...
Udaipur - Kherwara - Shamlaji (here's where you need to take diversion towards) - Modasa - Godhra - Halol - Surat (after Halol follow signs to Surat, not Vadodara); I started about 11:00 AM from Udaipur (after wasting 1 hour in traffic) & reached (I think) Vapi by 4:45 PM & 9:00 PM Mumbai (precisely the junction)

Nothing is stupid!!! So far you've not even been nearing anything to "S" of stupid; Feel free to ask anything no matter how simple or complex it is; I'll try to help as much as I can.

Satyen, pls see the route I suggested for the reason...its excellent in condition, sparse traffic, clear direction, avoids 2 cities, Ahmedabad & Vadodara; another reason being Ahmedabad-Vadodara express highway allows only cars & the alternate route though is good, but is not good enough to keep up the speeds.

I have taken this route earlier while coming from Udaipur - Mumbai. Highly recommended. Excellent tarmac, sparse traffic, 4 lanes of goodness and high speeds can be maintained all along.
Though I did Halol-Vadodara (NH8) and continued all the way on NH8 till Mumbai.
I did Udaipur - Mumbai lazily in 11 hours only due to this stretch.

DJ...if I'm not wrong, Jaipur wasn't in his list; I think he mentioned Jodhpur.

Jaipur became starting point for 2 reasons
                            - flight options
                            - & most importantly jaipur is last station of train

Bike has left ahead of me....first time ever

It was a fleecing experience to put bike on train i wonder how ppl can become so shameless and demand extra money

Fortunately & unfortunately - there were 4 enfields already in the wagon traveling from my home town (Mysore) to Jaipur which sort of made me happy & then there was no space for my bike..; but finally got it through
