I fanyone would ask me tht is udaipur worth the effort , my spontaneous answer would be yes yes yes. It is a totally different scenario and i bet u wont feel tht u are in rajasthan. If possible will upload some pics soon. The fort's are not just a sign of dry patches of rock, its all surrounded with the clean dark blue water. It feels nirvana once we are in the middle of the lake, as whole of our vision has forts and palaces. Now some places to visit

1.Visit the lake and u can go to all the palaces from there only.
2.Take the boat ride at the lake for sure
3.The White palace(i dont remember the name) has a cafateria, so u can enjoy food in the middle of a water body, tht too in both A/C or Fresh air.
4.There is a five star at the end of the lake, it looks a beauty once its evening. U can see the light show there
5.While coming back from the palace, there is a Superb resaurant which has only 1 thing in its menu i.e Special thali (its a total VFM). Once u come out of the restaurant,u have the view of antique cars and motorcycles set for exhibition. The charge is 150 rs per head (with a complementary drink)
6.If u are in a mood to do some good cornering on ur 220 and visit lord krishna's temple, u can take the route to nathdwara.(around 40 kms frm udaipur, time taken to reach by car was 1.5 hrs)
        7. Nd If u want smiling faces at ur home when u reach back u can have a visit to haldighati. And on the roads to haldighati u get 100% original sharbats,Gulkands,Gulab jal etc at low prices. (NOTE-visit the shop in front of the park if u want a good deal)

Thts all about the place, now some things to keep in mind.

1.Once u enter the lake area, u will be getting stopped every now and then by guides, trust me dont hire them coz there is no such very interesting history behind the lake and most of the story they tell is fake.
2.Take the Bigger boat , as it take the whole trip of the lake..others tend to use shortcuts. Or better if u can take ur own private jet type boat.
3.If u go in the city palace, instead of taking a human guide, take the electronic guide device.(i felt its better)
4.Most importantly dont do any shopping at the shops near the lake, they tend to sell the things at 60% percent extra profit than those in the city.

Thts all i could tell, ""AAGE AAPKI ICCHA""
Thanks for sharing Utkarsh!! I will not get into the debate..its up to individual preferences & their experiences

              25 Sun Jaipur - Ajmer - Bikaner 400km
              26 Mon Bikaner - Pokhran – Jaisalmer 330km
Any specific reason you want to do Jaipur - Ajmer instead of the super duper highway via Sikar? Besides there're lots on this highway not to miss & JD666 is expert here.

Also try cutting short on the ride & spend more time at Jaisalmer, say about 2 RELAXED days, not that it cannot be done in one; but 2 is good in addition to the day of arrival.

              a) Need some input on the riding from Udaipur - Pune - Blr...dont have even a clue on what to expect on this stretch
I don't know how many days you've in mind, take it in 2 days & you'll be fine. Take this route & you'll be fine...
Udaipur, Rajasthan, India to Pune, Maharashtra, India - Google Maps

              Its little longer, but...
              1. Avoids Ahmedabad express highway where they don't allow bikes
              2. All super highway, no potholes nothing + you find fuel stations all through the way

Once you enter into Gujarat via Shamlaji, all you need to do is T.W.O all way upto Valsad; hope you know how to cross Mumbai, otherwise let me know.

Will include Bhangarh on Sat if am able to manage in the time available
Make time, that's what I'd say; I'm repenting now to have missed it!!!

              c) Is Jai > Ajmer > Bikaner doable in one day? I want to visit the Ajmer Sharif & spend some time there also
Not sure, but yes, you can do Jaipur - Ajmer - Bikaner in a day.

Last but not the least, do not miss the ride from Udaipur to Jaisalmer, its something that CANNOT be missed in a life time; one single road that takes you through super highway, forest, hills & desert roads via Pali - Jodhpur

PS - Next time, pls don't change the font, its extremely difficult to quote here when replying

                You are most welcome Shashi!

Jaipur-Ajmer-Bikaner is doable in one day. Just to be on safer side start from Ajmer by max 11 AM.
There is a newly constructed mega highway from Kishangarh - Parbatsar - Kuchaman - Salasar - Ratangarh. This is longer but the roads are superb 4 lane all the way.

Will definitely not miss the Jaisalmer > Jodhpur > Ranakpur > Udaipur stretch

Udaipur > Pune > Bangalore will be for 2 days with a stop over at Pune.

As u mention about not allowing 2 wheelers on Ahm expressway, even Mumbai > Pune expressway will have to be avoided..any idea on the parallel road condition & traffic??

As for avoiding Mumbai - I was thinking of tracing the route as per google (via Ghodbandar via Thane) as I am not aware of this area at all.

Deejay - Could you pls help me with finer nuances while transporting bike on train?

I did it sometimes during early morning 3:30 AM from Mumbai, so it was fine with me; just stay off the express highway; those buggers allow you & finally catch hold; worst thing is they send you back or divert to different bad road + the fine; the only bad thing is loss of time.

+1 for shipping bike in train, +1 to avoiding Udaipur, though if you are anyways going there, you might as well see the place, and -1 for Ajmer or Pushkar. Frankly Ajmer and Pushkar will eat too much of a time in Jaipur - Udaipur or Jaipur - Bikaner journey, and aren't much - unless you have specific reasons. Depends on your preferences, but I'd spend that time elsewhere.

My expectation in Ajmer is only the Sharif/Dargah as I believe it has a lot of following & revered by many...nothing else. If you guys feel Ajmer is not what I am thinking then it I am ready to skip it.

                              Next steps!!!

                              a) Flight tickets booked for Blr - Mum - Jai for 23rd; but hardly any progress on train booking .....still WL 128. Any idea if luggage/bike can be booked using un-reserved / gen compartment ticket?

                              b) I need some suggestions on stay...looking for reasonable but safe accommodations esp for parking bike...in Jaipur / Jaisalmer / Jodhpur / Udaipur / Pune. Do I need to reserve hotels or can I manage to walk around and find as and when I reach a city?

                              c) I will get to things to carry soon but most importantly, I need you guys help me in identifying a good Bajaj service center for a basic checks mid way through the trip, may be in Jodhpur or Udaipur & one as a back up in Jaipur as emergency for any transit damage.

Dude I already told you, probably you missed; RTDC is the best VFM; they charge the same or less than any private place, but...
                                1. They've huge & very SAFE parking lots
                                2. They offer complimentary BFast for the same price that private players charge; and needless to say, food is excellent.
                                3. Good rooms with 24 hours hot water facility; press little & you get 10% discount.

PS - RJ is flooded with tourist from Oct to Feb/Mar, so its very rare that you get rooms in RTDC; nevertheless, its worth giving a try. Go to RTDC, if there's a office in BLR. If you don't get, you'll need to walk around.

Sigh!!! You don't need to worry on this front; I remember seeing a BAL ASC at Jaisalmer; if they have a HMSI ASC, then why not BAL?

How convenient is it to use this - Bajaj
