  • Need advise on Bike Trip between Rishikesh-Kedarnath-Badrinath-Return this June-15

    Hi Guyz,
I am planning to visit both dhams (kedarnath and badrinath) during June 3rd to 9th this year. I really don't know if its possible /allowed to visit these places for visitors like me with our own vehicles during yatra period(I guess yatra starts by May-15 end). Also would it be advised to do so? I will post detailed itinerary but at least I want to know the feasibility first for the same. I have 5 days with me when I start journey from rishikesh. Please help. Need some encouragement too.

    Regards
    Ajay

Badrinath is opening on April 26th this year. You can take your bike all the way till Badrinath. No issues there. For Kedarnath, you need to walk 17Km one way. So total of 34Km. So keep a day or two aside for that or you can hitch a helicopter ride.
      Doable from Rishikesh.

hey thanxs dichkaun...I surely got a big relief from your message. Well according to my itinerary I can start my journey form Rishikesh on 03rd June Morning. Plan to Hire a bike and reach Gaurikund on the same day. I guess these from where we have to walk for Kedarnath. So on 4th Early morning leave for Kedarnath and Complete darshan by evening and reach back to gaurikund. Next day on 5th leave for Badrinath and try to reach as close as possible. I want to know is there any short route to skip rudraprayag. Well if I can reach atleast Gopeshwar Or Joshi Math by 5th Evening. I will have next day 6th for Badrinath Darshan and sight seeing around. On 7th early morning leave for Rishikesh. 8th I have kept as a spare day for any contingency. I have my return booking form Delhi on 9th June. So I can catch a train for Delhi from Haridwar even on 9th Early Morning. Thats the whole story. Do you think this is feasible. Also which bike should be hired? A friend will be accompanying me so I guess we both will have each bike for us. What is the normal rent for bike per day? How much time we need for Darshan during Yatra Period? Also I heard this year Govt. is planning to provide passes which will we tracked through GPS to judge visitors movement, for which pre-registration has to be completed in Rishikesh or Haridwar. Please let me know if their are any other formalities for the same.

Buy a bajaj avenger or a bullet if you're one of relaxed kind of guys.
If it was for me ,I'll suggest a ninja but that's just me.

Thanxs anuj...I have hardly ridden bullet...I was thinking the same about hiring avenger.. but i truly never been to North, so I don't Have any idea about road conditions, avenger seems a little low on ground clearance...wont be more difficult to drive on roads with large pebbles due to its lower stance...that is what i can speculate...What's your opnion about the same?

The distance is about 240Km. Doable if you start early.

defenitely feasible. Try to get a bike similar to what you ride at home. You are probably used to it. Don;t know about the rent. There is a triplog recently posted on xbhp by a person who rented an avenger in Rishikesh. Please ask in that thread.

It depends. If you just want to do darshan and come out, then it is quick. If you want to wait for aarti time and get some pooja done, then it takes longer. Badrinath is more crowded than Kedarnath.

There is no clarity on that yet. Things will become more clear when the pat open later this month. Irrespective of that, they'll still allow personal vehicles to travel as there are residents living in these towns.

Thanks again that's a really valuable reply from your side. I rode pulsar 180 at home. I guess that would be fine. I dont want to take any chances. I hope a will get riding safety gear from the person who rents bikes. I have planned to carry most of the things like gloves, balaclava, apparel except helmet (hope he provides a good one with the bike.) Well of course I wouldn't be having that leisure to attend aarti, so I will just take darshan, that would be enough for me then. Let the registration process take its own course meanwhile.

I did it on 200ns and with a r15 from Delhi to neelkant, far ahead of rishikesh. Trust me I enjoyed a lot.
And yes there were many avengers there riding.
If you care about ground Clearence ,power ,some comfort and overall reliability, I will suggest p200ns. Its a gem to tour on .

Guyz few more queries... I hope all over the route there are accommodations available, but for the sake of emergency, shall I carry Tent? I do have one which I use for trekking with some good trekking mats....makes it enough comfortable during chilled winter nights around sahyandri mountains. But seriously I dont have any Idea about the temperature and atmospheric conditions around there during June.

Accommodation is plentiful at this time of the year. No need to carry a tent unless you really want to camp out in the outdoor.
The weather in June is quite pleasant.
