• Need help skipping Hyderabad ORR and Mumbai-Pune expressway highway on two wheeler t

Hi all,
I have done a solo road trip from Bharuch,GJ to Vizag,AP (1800kms in 44hrs)in Nov'14 on my 200NS
The worst problem I faced was the lack of routes for two wheelers. There was no clear marking or indication for first time visitors on what roads to avoid.
I was following google maps and it always kept pointing me towards the Mumbai Pune express highway

I lost lots of time and patience during that journey.
Ended up leaving my bike in Vizag and have not brought it back to Gujarat till now.

I am now planning the return journey.
The "planned" route is the same as the route I took in November.
Vizag-Vijayawada-Hyderabad-Solapur-Pune-Mumbai-Surat-Bharuch

I need help in avoiding the 4-wheeler only roads and also avoiding entering the cities of Hyderabad and Mumbai

Can any HYD and Mumbai locals help me out?
Would asking it on a rough google map be too much?

Also I would appreciate it if anyone would tell me if
1. Hyderabad-Solapur so called highway is better than
2. Hyderabad-Sedam-Gulbarga-Aland-Akkalot-Solapur

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

In your entire ride there are just two roads you need to avoid. Locals around the place are far better than any GPS!

You don't need to enter Bombay at all. From Kalamboli you head towards Thane and then onto the NH8 towards Gujarat. Pretty straight forward and you can always ask locals for help!

I don't mean to offend you, but travelling on a motorcycle is not rocket science and difficult to believe that someone would get impatient about getting lost. If i was so worried about getting lost, taking incorrect roads, finding this that and the other i would just catch a train, i will reach without a problem then!

If you don't mind my advice, then just relax and enjoy the scenery
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

The Monk: I believe getting lost is sometimes a wonderful experience...but sadly not in my case...I was actually running late and that was the only reason I was impatient...

Thanks for the advice...checking out on the map now 😁😁

chinna_rao, When coming from Pune to Mumbai catch the old highway i.e NH 4. However you have to take the Expressway on a small patch after getting down from khandala to "exit to Khopoli" board on expressway, where two wheelers are allowed. You have already done this so enjoy the ride this time & ride safe.

chinna_rao HYD can be avoided by taking the Orr service roads.agree there would be huge number of humps, but this will reduce the time taken in asking for routes.Be on the left side of the orr all the way. You will join nh9 at patancheru.

you can also bypass Vijayawada by taking the Vijayawada bypass, just after gannavaram and join nh9 at gollapudi.

Pune Mumbai highway is also a puzzle unsolved. After lonavala the highway joins the expressway.continue on it for 2 kms and you will see a narrow deviation on to your left for khopoli. Take the road under the expressway and it will lead you to khopoli.

For bypassing Mumbai, take the panvel-kalamboli-thane route. Though tarmac is not that great, but it can help u bypass Mumbai in an hour.

Let me know if you have anymore queries.

Thank you very much!
Will check it out on the map and plan my route...
sunil I tried the ORR service roads during my journey home but I got lost at a point where there was no more visible service road...

Will try it again this time

And thanks a ton for the Vijayawada tip!
Will upload my route here when I am done with office work tonight

Do you have any better route for HYD to Sholapur?

I checked google maps...i dont understand the point of getting onto the expressway after Lonavala

understood the BZA bypass, the Hyd ORR service roads and the Panvel-Kalamboli route..so I am clear with those

saquib3005 if I m not wrong there's a dirt track that goes to khopoli parallely to expressway ?
chinna rao hyd-solapur is in bad condition if I m not wrong. There's an alternative route via gulbarga. I will confirm it along with the route map.

Hello @chinna_rao,

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

This will be best route for you to avoid ORR of Hyderbad, Hyderabad city traffic and even Pune Mumbai expressway.
Also after avoiding Pune mumbai expressway just follow the map so that you easily avoid Navi Mumbai Traffic and directly exit for Thane West for Mumbai Ahmedabad Traffic.

PS: this route is of Vijaywada to Vapi.
