    White is the color, riding on it is a game..... going solo is fun, Rann is the name.

    Hi.
    Special thanks to my fellow Xbhpians whose travelogues helped me research and plan with ease.

    Kindly provide suggestions and feedback for my solo endurance drive to the Great RANN.
    Objective: Stay as long as possible for a day(not overnight)at White Desert(no hustle here). Explore other places with endurance drive(Hustle and watch whatever I can.).

    Before you read my plan, kindly provide answers to the following questions.
    1) How cold will it be? I mean some relatives of mine told it may reach subzero, is this true or they just exagerating? Cause I checked online weather and it told minimum temperature at that time will be 9 degrees.
    2) Can we visit Kalo Dungar/Hodko/Dhordo/White Desert/Rann Festival by obtaining the permit(that INR 100 wala) by standing in queue at Bhiyandiara Post? Or do we have to apply at some office in BHUJ?
    3) Where exactly is the gravity hill(So called magnetic zone) near Kalo Dungar. Is it before India Gate post? Can it be visited using the permit we obtained earlier?
    4) How much time will it take to reach Dholavira from Bhuj?
    5) How much time from Dholavira to Mt. Abu?
    6) Is Hira LAxmi Craft park closed on saturday/sunday during Rann Festival also?
    7) Can I leave White Desert to go back to my guest house by 11 pm at night or will I have to leave early(from Police/Military Checkpost perspective)?

    From: Pune
    To: Rann of Kutch
    Bike: Pulsar 220F
    Date: 24th Dec, 2015

    Day 1: 24th Dec 2015.
    Pune to Mumbai(Santacruz East)
    Start Time: 6 pm (Leaving from office)
    Estimated End Time(EET): 9-10 pm.(Casual driving)

    Day 2: 25th Dec 2015
    Mumbai to Bhuj(Hotel Booking already done).
    Start Time: By 4 am
    Route: Mumbai-Surat-Ahmedabad- Bhachau- Mandvi(Sight Seeing, Vijay Vilas)- HiraLaxmi Craft Park(Closes by 8 pm and closed on 26 and 27)- Guest House(BHUJ).
    EET: Mumbai-Bhachau before 2 pm
    Bhachau- Mandvi by 3:30 pm(Is mandvi beach any different from other beaches or shud I just go to Vijay Vilas Palace.)
    Mandvi- Hiralaxmi park 7 pm
    Guest house by 8:30 pm.

    Day 3: 26th Dec, 2015 @ Bhuj
    Sunrise at tapkeshwari caves by 7 am.
    Aina Mahal, Prag Mahal, Kutch Museum quick tour from 9 am to 11 am
    Reach Bhiyandiayara by 11 am. Worst case scenario get permits by 12 pm(Long queue due to Rann Utsav).
    Reach Kalo Dungar by 1 pm.
    Visit Hodko and Dhordo and return to Guest house by 10-11 pm(I wish to be at the white desert from afternoon to late evening and experience best of both worlds(day/evening/sunset/night))

    Day 4: 27th Dec, 2015
    BHUJ to Mt.Abu.
    Leave for Dholavira by 5-6 am.
    Reach Dholavira by 9-10 am.
    Explore Dholavira till 11-12 pm.
    Leave for Mt.Abu by 11-12 pm and reach Mt. Abu by 4-5 pm and do Guru Shikhar.
    Leave Mt. Abu by 6-7 pm and reach Mehsana(Hotel booked here) by 10 pm.

    Day 5: 28th Dec, 2015
    Mehsana-Pune (optionally quickly explore Gandhinagar, Surat on way back)
    Start by: Dont care..may be 10-11 am.
    End Time : Dont care.. may be 29th Dec, 2015 12 am.

      Ok i have done this exact same route solo almost exactly a year ago, only difference being Mumbai-Bhuj- Mumbai

      1. It will be cold, but not sub zero. day temperatures will hover around 18 and night temperatures around 9. so pack accordingly.

      2. Kalo dungar and rann of kutch both can be done on the pass you will pay for on the way towards the Rann. there is no need for any other pass in Bhuj. Unless...

      3. You take a special permission in Bhuj army area, to visit right till the India Pak border, using this special permit, you can go beyond the India Bridge (not gate post) and till the very edge of indian state.

      4. There is no designated time for departure, but i would suggest you leave the rann of kutch as soon as possible after dark. there is nothing to do there anyways, unless you want to do shopping in the ranotsav mela that comes up outside the Rann. the area is extremely desolate, so if you have an unfortunate mishap, there is absolutely no possiblity of any help whatsoever. i too came back after dark, but i got hold of a private car who was going back to Bhuj as well, and asked him to keep me in front of him at all times for my safety.

      5. you will not be able to make Mumbai - Bhuj in 1 day no matter how early you leave because there is heavy traffic on the mumbai ahmedabad highway, especially at the narmada river bridge just before vadodara. secondly, vadodara ahmedabad highway is still under construction (as of august 2015) and going will be slow. the best you can do will be a little ahead of ahmedabad.

      6. since you still have time for planning, you should take these things into account. 1 more important thing is, ensure that the night you will be on the rann of kutch, it is a full moon night. the experience is ethereal. i promise you.

          it is a beautiful ride, but a boring one after sanand, because the roads are straight as an arrow, and there is literally nothing to see on either side of the road, all the way to the Rann of Kutch. you can do speed runs on those runway quality roads. the only bad patch is from bachau till bhuj, about 30 km, but when i was there in january 2015, road building was in progress, so it might be complete by now.
          one more thing, after ahmedabad, towards bachau and bhuj, all signposts become only gujarati, so be observant, because its very easy to miss the multiple turns and at high speeds, 10 minutes can mean overshooting 10+ kilometers from a particular waypoint. (speaking from experience :P)

          makes one wish for a cruise control on the bike
          even if you are unable to get a permit to go till the border, you can always go visit the war memorial 12 km beyond india bridge, u will have to beg the BSF commandant at the gate to do so, but its totally worth the effort.

            I don't know about other beaches.. But on this mandvi beach u can take your bike on beach and click photos...it is mesmerising scene during sun set.
            In case of any mishappening I have no. Of bullet mistri at mandavi.but he can fix other bikes also. 07874353684. This is his no.
            - At greater rann, spending time is such a pleasure that at sunset you will feel to stay there permanently..
            -When you go to kala dungar, magnetic hills comes on the way. But keep in mind night driving from kala dungar to rann Utsav is risky as buffaloes comes on road at dawn ...and I have seen terrafic accident of bikers that time... Please ride safe on that patch with caution..
            -Regarding indo pak border , you have to take permission from bhuj army station. Take originals like DL, RC,and photocopy of each rider. Only one person among the group can also go and show the documents. And they will give permit.
            - indo pak border is again good, but you can't take photos as on India gate, they ask us to put camera,phones gopro. But the memories are still fresh.
            This is the first bike trip which I made. And I can say it is awesome journey.
