Re: Endurance ride
Thread approved!
Sure, 850 km can be done in a day. Why 100? Ride sedate at 85-90 kmph. Should be done with in 15-16 hours easily. Enjoy the trip.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Endurance ride
Thanks @Divya Sharan for the approval
If somebody feels that the tread title is doing injustice to the number of kilometers I have planned, please let me know a appropriate title.
Cheers,
Sanjay

Re: Endurance ride
It's all in the mind. To some, 300 is endurance and to some 3000 is game play!Originally posted by sanjaysangar1990 View PostIf somebody feels that the tread title is doing injustice to the number of kilometers I have planned, please let me know a appropriate title.
Leave bothering about the title, rather let us know how you plan to ride - what tools, spares, medicines, whose numbers etc you would carry; basically everything apart from the route you'd take.
Do you have appropriate saddle/tank/tail bags?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Endurance ride
Fair enough. Carry a spare head lamp and a torch as well. Just ensure that accelerator cables and clutch cables are lubed and aren't showing signs of wear.
Get cycling pants and wear underneath for added padding. Reduces the chances of rashes by 50%.
Keep a chain lube bottle with you. Since it's just a day trip, crocin would do fine else I'd have listed a couple more tablets.
Ensure you carry basic first aid kit.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Endurance ride
just having those cables won't do u any good, go to your local mechanic and get a crash course at changing them as well, because worst case scenario u might have a breakdown far from help. then look at the tools the mechanic uses and keep them, your honda supplied tool box might not have them.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostFair enough. finally, since its a day ride and one which will be thru a fairly populated and trafficked highway, i don't think you need to carry extra petrol. there are plenty of petrol pumps, you know the mileage your bike gives u, as soon as you hit 1/4th tank, you can top it up.
taking breaks every 200-250 km is unrealistic. i would recommend taking a 15 minute break every 1.5 (100 km) hours and a half hour break ever 3 hrs (200 km).
helps with the sore ass, and gives your other muscles, which are under constant tension the entire riding period, a chance to flex.
800 km in 1 day on the pune bangalore highway might be unrealistic in my opinion. unless you plan to do some night riding, which, after having ridden the entire day, would be inadvisable. you are not a regular tourer by your own admission, why take risks?

Tough I am not a avid tourer, I am aware of my limits and someday I have to cross those numbers and rise above "I am not a tourer" . Hence the plan. And since I am not running after a trophy or a award, I am going to take it easy. I just want to attempt this thing. If ever at one point I feel I can't stretch any further I will stop for a break and come back to pune.
I have heard a lot of praises for NH4, I thought there won't be any hassle doing 850kms in 15-16odd hours.
As far as the DIY is concerned, I am aware and I can work on the following things and I do have all sorts of spanners and ring spanners etc. I can carry them all in my tail bag.
I have done numerous Mumbai pune Mumbai run and in those 170kms/3.5 hours, I never stopped for break. "bhai itni capacity toh hai yaar!!
"
Chain Tightening
Clutch cable replacement
Engine oil change.
As far as my trust goes, the baby CBR is not going to let me down.
Cheers,
SanjayLast edited by sanjaysangar1990; 12-30-2015, 02:12 PM.

Fair pointers above.Originally posted by Kos View Post800 km in 1 day on the pune bangalore highway might be unrealistic in my opinion. unless you plan to do some night riding, which, after having ridden the entire day, would be inadvisable. you are not a regular tourer by your own admission, why take risks?
People do saddlesores on this route. We're talking half of that. I feel this can be done in 15 to 16 hours easily. Roads are in decent to great condition till Belgaum, not sure about the MH part above that.
Regarding taking rest, I prefer a 10 min break every hour irrespective of the distance covered.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Endurance ride
Tiredness/Sleepiness would be your biggest challenge on an endurance run. I usually sing at the top of my voice, or shout out some kick ass dialogues which i'd normally never have the chance to say, within my helmet, just to keep my senses active. If your using headphones/earphones within the helmet, please keep the volume low, as you're riding solo, and you're awareness has to be all around you. The ears play a vital part in sensing danger from behind. Stay dehydrated all the time, and ride to enjoy! Not just for the sake of covering the distance

Well said Jon. Even I also shout inside my helmet sometimes to kick out the boredom and to relax my face muscles.Originally posted by Jon Niranjan Paul View PostTiredness/Sleepiness would be your biggest challenge on an endurance run. doing mumbai-pune-mumbai run is different, because u don't do any more riding after that 3.5 hour haul. here you are planning to ride for 15 hours if not more, and you need to remember that this is quite literally, a marathon, not a sprint, so pacing yourself is important. as divya said 10 minutes break, or what i suggested earlier, you should do it, but this is advice, you know your body the best.
the roads are good, but they are not as good as the roads in Karnataka, add to that unlit roads, jaywalkers and unlit trucks, with a sprinkling of fatigue (of riding for 12 hours before dark) make for a very potent and dangerous combination.

I did not take it as a let down. I am aware, we at xbhp gives priority to safety first. So those comments from you were taken as a advice who has experience
and as Divya has advised I will take breaks every hour so that the fatigue level is kept in check. I personally believe that with frequent brakes there is a very little room for the fatigue to kick in.
Since I do not want to face the darkness hence I thought i should start by 4:30 in the morning and come by 7 pm max which is 15 hours and at speeds of 80-95-100, I should be able to accomplish this task.

Re: Endurance ride
I do have one more concern regarding the oil, Fellow Shell user on CBR250r can put a light on it.
Since this is my first refill of shell oil, hence I am not aware till how much kms it can hold itself. currently it is 3300kms old.
Please let me know if I can push further till 4500kms-5000kms ?
Cheers,
Sanjay
