  • Rear tyre for CBR 250R

    Hello brothers

My CBR has clocked 23000 KM's on the stock MRF Zapper S & now the central part has gone almost bald. I want to change the rear tyre prior to my next trip that starts on 12th Apr. I want to decide between MRF Masseter (₹3800/- & 3 yrs conditional warranty) & Michelin Sporty (₹3300/- & 5 yrs warranty including 1st 2 yrs unconditional warranty) ... Pls advice...!!!

P.S. Pls let me also know the pros & cons of upsizing & downsizing.

    DOTHRAS CHEK ...!!!

Go for Michelin Street radial. Best value for money tire for cbr250

Follow up question: One of my friend plans to go to Ladakh on his CBR250. He wants offroad/studded tyres. Any Suggestions? Has anyone done trecherous terrains with the CBR to shed some light on it?

I have done Mana & Jalori Pass on CBR 250R. The Mana trip was done on stock tyres I.e. MRF ...There are many bad patches from Joshimath to badrinath. Water streams with pebbles & rocks. The Jalori Pass was done last month on Michelin Street. 5 Kms before Jalori & 15Kms after Jalori Pass there's no road ... It's all stones & pebbles with steep climb & very steep downhill. I was going uphill continuously in 1st & 2nd gear only. And thankfully my entire trip of 1700 Kms was done without any punctures or any other issue in the bike.
CBR is a very trusted & reliable sports tourer...!!!

                Wow! Kudos to you!

The stock tires on the CBR are ContiGo. Which MRF tires do you have on your bike? Also, I was looking for studded tires since the trip is pretty much off roading. But I couldnt find any in the 140/70R17 size. Are the MRFs semi slick? How was the grip? Especially on bad/slippery roads?

My CBR had stock MRF Zapper S...I changed them at 24500 Kms...the grip was good on all terrains ... Even the leaning was good. But Michelin Street are awesome with rounded profile. My other bike has pirelli which also has good grip but Michelin is better. Pirelli is a soft rubber compound& & tends to wear out in about 15-20,000 Kms. MRF has recently launched a CBR specific set ... I don't recall it's name ... It's priced around 3700 ₹ in Gurgaon for the rear piece with 3 yr warranty. I chose Michelin coz it's coming with 5 yr warranty out of which 1st 2 yrs is unconditional warranty with replacement. I'd suggest that u go with Michelin Street ... Very nice set...& the best part is that it's not rubber ... It's nylon based compound so it's gonna last longer than rubber compounds.

No I'm actually concerned about the reaction to rough terrains. It shouldnt be that the michelins get punctured in bad environments. 5 years warranty won't matter if he stuck there with an unrepairable puncture or something.

One more thing ... No doubt that CBR is an awesome sports tourer & can handle all types of terrains, however the fairings might loosen up if off reading is done frequently & then it starts to make unnecessary sounds which gets irritating...I did Ladakh last yr on my CBR with pillion & fully loaded saddle bags & Jerry cans filled with petrol & I didn't find it very difficult. Just make sure that u use a cling film wrap in front of radiator so that the slush, dust, & pebbles don't get jammed in the radiator else the bike'll heat up quickly.

I have had only 2 punctures in my MRFs & that too within 1 wk of purchasing the bike & that too in the city...thank God. I have been to Nepal, Ladakh, Mana, Jalori, Chitkul, & many more places with bad roads/no roads & all these were with a pillion + luggage & ZERO PUNCTURES...!!! Now I'm planning Nelong valley & Bhutan in the next 2 months...!!! Love my CBR ...!!!

I heard that a new set of tires were launched by pirelli. Pirelli angel CT. They say it is THE tyre made specially for roads of ASIA. Can anybody help me here? Since I am planning to replace my ContiGo with these. My bike has done only 2100 Kms in 2 months until now. Recently purchased. But the ContiGo, they are not up to the mark.

To be frank I don't have any on road experience with the tyre you have said
But looking on to the tyre it sure looks like a solid one to go with
As per internet, it is said as it is derived from angel GT which are used for 500cc above bikes for touring... So I hope this Angel CT is also made like the GT one..
And finally Pirelli has a name to trust... Carve more on the tyre and make a choice

I have read a review, below is the link
