  • Dual purpose tyre for Yamaha R3.

I've planned for a trip to the Himalayas and cover the Western ghats till south end. Looking for a good dual purpose or hard compound tyres with better wet grip in Himalayan regions. Can someone suggest me a tyre? I currently own Michelin pilot street radial and done with it. I'm not pretty interested in Pirelli or Metz or Apollo. Someone help me with a good tyre.

Hey... I have a similar question for my NS200.... I want to know about JK blaze BR41 rear tyre.... I heard this is a dual purpose tyre... But there are very less reviews about this tyre.

But I recently saw a post about this tyre posted by you on this forum here : https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/...-jk-tyres.html

Could you give some info on this tyre... Like how it's on and Off the roads??? or Can I get this for a ladakh trip?

Any reason why you are not interested in Pirelli and Metz? They make some of the best tires.
The options available for R3 is pretty limited.
The best tire that for R3 that I have used is Pirelli Diablo Rosso II. Offers excellent wet and dry grip and provides very good feedback. However they are are not suited for a trip to Himalayas as these are pretty soft compound tires.

The reason for avoiding Metz and pirelli is their dual purpose tyres are way too costly for me and their radial ones isn't suitable for Himalayas... Found a good deal in timsun. Anyways thanks. [emoji4]

Great that you have found shoes for your ride, however for fast bikes, its better to stay away from brands like Timsun.

Please post your experience with the Timsun tyres if possible with photos in the R3 owners thread ,would be interesting to see how they perform and last compared to the Michelins.

I have had bad experience with shoddy tires in my car. Had a side wall blow out. Was lucky that I was taking a turn and was at slow speed.
Hence better to avoid such tyres in a bike which can easily do north of 180kmph. You wont want a tyre malfunction at that kinda speed.
The tyre is the only thing that keeps you in contact with the road. So why skimp on it? Get the best.

                    Which one's would you suggest?

                      Hi Omkariswer,

Sticking To Michelin Pilot Street would be better option.
It is hard enough to munch miles and not much prone to punctures, and you can ride without any hassle.
Still if you want dual Purpose tyre you can try Timsun Tyre(Button) - 90/90-17(front) and Ralco Blaster - 140/70-17(Rear)
Mind you both are button tyres and good for slushy region or snowy region of Himalayas, but not that great for speeding corners on Tarmac.
If you want overall experience and no worries to change tyre then better stick to Michelins.
I have used both of these tyres on my R3 and ridden extensively on these tyres and will vouch for Michelins.(Timsun+Ralco in Spiti during Winters and Michelins in allover India+Bhutan - all seasons)
MRF Masetters are also good for touring purpose. But not as great as Michelins.

If its for R3, get the Pierelli Diablo Rosso II.
