  • Guys,

I need to change the rear tyre of my Apache RTR 160. I am currently using 110/80-18 PSD and has completed apprx. 17000 kms now. It was a wonderful tyre and I had only one minute puncture during this period.

Now I would like to try something different. I am looking for something which is lighter and cheaper than PSD, can't afford PSD at the moment. It should also have better Treadlife than the PSD.

So please help me with your suggestions.

-- Interested in block patterened tyres rather than MRF zapper type, just for the sake of change. MRF Meteor, MRF Moto D, Michelin Sirac, TVS Jumbo Poly X are some tyres that look interesting to me for Rear. I am open to suggestions for other tyres also.
CEAT VERTIGO SPORT is available at 100/90-18 size, tubeless too.

Can any of the above tyres in 2.75 - 18 (or 3.00 - 18) size be used on the front as well ? heard that some people are using Sirac on both front/rear ? Not able to find any matching pattern/tread for front for any of the above mentioend tyres (Meteor, Moto D, Sirac, Jumbo), except Sirac (if that can be used on front as well in reverse direction).
Sirac are of two type,One is Sirac 120/90-18 or 17" TL tire and the other is Sirac Street 100/90-18,3.00 * 18 TT tires made in INDIA ,Only Indian tires can be used in both front and rear.

I have read a lot of people using 45/62 as well. Where do you get these ?
Both are available in some shops, very rare M62 is a good,a bit hard compound tire than M45.

100/90 is a direct fit for rear rim, I think 110/90 should also fit directly without any fuss. What about 4.25 - 18 ? what does it equal to in terms of 100/90 type notation. what do you people say aobut the slight upsize ?
      4.25 will be equal to 120.M45 is 4.0 * 18,its equal to 110/90-18.

          Guys, any suggestions for me?

My usage will be 80% on highways and 20% on city traffic. My options till now are:

          Zapper Q (110/90 - 18)
          Michelin Pilot Sporty
          Michelin M45

For the michelins, which is the size equivalent to 110/90 - 18? Can anyone tell me the price of the above specified models?

Also please suggest if there is any better options that I should consider.

          Thanks in advance.

it will easily fit.... My friend is using it in his 180.... You wont notice the drop in performance. Its so negligible.... And the tire have some serious levels of grip....its a very good tire.... Or you can try michelin pilot sporty 110/80 x 17...its an awesum tire....but very hard to find this size.... And pirellis are also there and they are damn costly.... And using the two front tires which i mentioned will provide awesum grip...they are the old and new r15 front tire....but you will get negative speedo reading...ie..your speedo will show more speed.... Let me make it simpler... Say...the odometre reading between your college and home is 10 kms now...if you change the front tire with those your odometre will show maybe 10.5 km... Just a example... Suppose your bike now displays 60kmph at 5k rpm...later it will display maybe 63-64kmph at the same rpm.... This does not mean that your bike is going faster....actually your front wheel is rotating faster than before because of the lower profile tires and the speedo sensor is at the front wheel.... The difference is not much.... All that matters is grip.... And the front height of your bike will be lower by several milimeters and the rear will get higher by several milimeters.... It will look good too.... Hope i am able to clear your query....

                Hi Rahul,

Thanks for the quick lesson in tyre performance. What about using a Pirelli Sport Demon for the front and rear. A Friend has replaced his stock tyres with the Sport demon on his ZMR and is getting great results.

The dimensions for the Sport Demon
                Front
                17''
                100/80-17 M/CTL 52H SPORTD F

                110/90-18 M/C TL61 H SPORTD

                130/70-18 M/C TL 63H SPORTD

As you are aware I am still learning and understanding the basics of tyres

The closest match to my tyres I feel is as below
                Front - 110/70-17 M/C TL54H SPORTD F or 100/90-18 M/C TL 56H SPORTD F
                Rear - 110/90-18 M/C TL61 H SPORTD

called up a few dealers (N Mehta and Darshan) in Pune today to check the price.

The Sirec Street 100/90 18 TT is 2200/- with tube.
The Sirec Street 2.75 18 TT is 1600/- to 1700/- with tube.

Are these prices reasonableor can I get these any cheaper in Pune ?

Got the Sirac Street 100/90 * 18 for 2000 INR for the tyre + 350 for MRF tube in Hyderabad. So I think your's is a good deal.
For the front tyre - IF you can get a M45 , nothing like it. Probably one of the best front tyres that was/is available in the market.

I am still confused about the tyre size. What size should I get for my Apache RTR 160 rear tyre? The stock one was 100/80-18 and I was using PSD of size 110/80-18 after changing the stock tyres. It was a perfect fit.

Now I am looking for something of the same size (110/80-18). But I could not find anything yet. I am new to Kochi, so can anyone tell me the names of shops where I can get them. Or is there any other alternative sizes that I should look for?

I am mainly looking for something like Michelin Pilot Sporty, Zapper Q, Zapper vyde or M45 etc.

                        Please suggest...

achcha you want fatter tires right.....? Then go for front zapper fx (fz frnt tire) its damn sticky man.... Cost is around 1700.... And sadly you cant go above 120/80 x 17 in a rtr 180. The swingarm is too narrow....and zapper vyde fits perfectly...... And you cant fit 18 inch tires coz your rim size is 17... 18inch is rtr 160 rear rim.... And dont go above 100/80 for front, else it will have serious handling problem.... So front zapper fx 100/80 x 17 and rear zapper vyde 120/80 x 17.... Use this setup and you wont regret..... These two are are one of the stickiest tires mrf makes....... My friend have this same setup on his fz..... Works wonders....

M45 is big for rtr,i wont recommend it.Heard that Zapper Q has bad grip in wet,so not that,Zapper vyde is a good tire,Soft compound, will wears faster.Pilot sporty is also soft compound tire, will wears sooner than Vyde,IMO get Zapper Vyde.
