      • Tubeless tyre modification for Thunderbird twinspark

i need suggestion for changing normal tyre in tbts to tubeless ones for thunderbird twinspark or any other bullet.

1.stock tbts have 3.25 x 19" front and 3.5 x 19" rear tyres.if i want to go for tubeless tyres,is it necessary to downsize the wheel also to 18 or 17".

2.abt changing wheels,if i prefer enkei alloy(mag wheels as in unicorn,gs 150r,whether it can bear the bullet weight(175 kg) + (rider+pillion+20 kg luggage)-140kg)? (enkei alloys are lighter than other aftermarket alloy wheels)

3.will swingarm will allow to fit 120 width rear tyre instead of stock one 3.50 x 19"?

4.how much change will be in seat height, ground clearance, and whether it will improve or affect the road grip, handling, stability, if i am downsizing the wheels to 18" wheels?

5.whether using tyre sealant like slime etc., will be useful in puncture prevention?

        6. i am speaking about tubeless tyres like as in pulsar 220,not like soft compound tubeless in YAMAHA R15.bcoz soft compound tyres may wear out or affected in offroading condition or travelling thru rough patches.

last but not least, which company wheels & tyres are best to go for (in terms of quality),&where it will be available and what will be the approx.cost for modification?

pls help me out as i want to buy a bike with more power suitable for touring with pillion.presently i have 125 cc bike, only useful for commuting.

X= Width of the tyre in millimeters.
Y= Height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the width. Also know as the aspect ratio.
Z= The diameter of the tyre's inner rim in inches.

              So 100/90-17 means:
              - 100mm is the width of the tyre
              - 90% of 100mm=90mm is the height of the tyre sidewall
              - 17 inches is the tyre's inner rim size.
              Thanks there leon_nerd.

that really sorted out my problem.

              cheers

                • Qeury

Yesterday i enquired at Metro tyres in Mumbai, and he gave me the following rates for new tyres for my P150 (17"):

Front- Duro: 90/80 (Rs. 2000/- with tube)
                  - MRF Zapper FY 80/80 (1400/- tubeless). He said that these were R15 tyres. Could anyone please confirm?

                  Rear- IRC110/80 (2400/- tubeless)
                  -Duro 120/80 (2000)
                  - Zapper S 100/80 (1900 tubelss) He said that these were also R15 tyres. Could anyone please confirm?

I feel that he has quoted quite a high price for the IRC one. I think it should be for a max of 2000/-
What say guys? Should i go for the Zapper FY and IRC combo? the IRC has a thread pattern similar to Zappers, but the rubber is sup[posed to be softer...

                  • So finally after a week of RnD , thanks to Ravi and Praful .
I got the MIchelin SIRACs 120/90-17 for my 220 .
                    Rewiew :
                    Pros :
                    1. Easy fit, infact the stock mrf do touch the chain cover slightly but these dont.
                    2. awesome grip specially in wet and offroading.
                    3. guess because of its round profile, the cornering has improved.
                    4. increased speed at higher RPMs - my bike used to do 83 at 6K(220 guys will know this) but now it does 86
                    5. most important : my confidence has increased !

                    Cons :
                    1. increase in height. as profile is 120/90 and stock is 120/80
                    2. slight loss of acc at low RPMs.

from the 250 odd kms i had since i got the tyre this sat, i feel this tyre is best for a tourer. with good offroading capabilities.
Would love to try it on wet muddy roads.
Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

                          • yup ,u should, the only surprising part is the increase in speed at higher RPMs
,the SIRACs are heavier than MRF .

Don't mind the heavy weight as long as it has oodles of off-road grip!
