I think he will have to eat his own words when the speculated new R15 with 'phat' tyres comes out. A wider tyre could always have been fitted to follow the harmony of the bike's design but sadly to extract better fuel efficiency/performance they compromised on the tyre's width. And no this is not a poser's talk, i am speaking keeping the overall design perspective in mind. If the speculated R15's pic is anything to go by, was the design a so 'big' deal to come up with 2 years back, Ask yourself!!Originally posted by M.vinay View Postcheck out this video of Mizuno Takayoshi (father of R15) at 4:51 to know why yamaha put only 150cc engine and skinny tyres.

broad rear tyre, split seats, R6 inspired rear, almost same R6 front, R125 type alloys and all.

Just saw this on the FB page..Came here to know more truth about this.
Actually this one looks much better(and complete) than the current R15.It looks grown-up and the arse has really grown-fat too!
If tires are fat,It is obvious that Yamaha have fiddled with the engine too..Otherwise,for the same specs there'd be drop in performance and efficiency(as chicane said earlier) in the new bike. And I am pretty much sure Yamaha's plans are not to make the bike slower and just better looking as what they are trying here is to cut down the new Honda's sales..
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

Thanks for the pic, but whether its photoshopped or not, its looks exactly like the one in the spy pic, rear tyre hugger, fairings, engine...
According to Vaibhav, there was no change in the front...
The rear tyre hugger looks better in this pic...

Well in the video he does state 150 for the time being. One more thing that he states is that a bigger tyre would mean lesser performance i.e less pickup and less milage etc. I'm hoping the increase the engine capacity by about 10cc which would be really mind blowing, having a R16, maybe. An edge over the rest of the 150cc bikes and tough competition to the P220 aswellI would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

Yamaha has not put Skinny Tyres but a 130 section on the European R125.

That's a Computer Generated Image. Please read the fine print on the right side of the photo.
Autocar has published this image in its latest issue, they probably took the cues from Vaibhav Saigal's photo and xBhp itself.

anyway...the new r15 was supposed to be released around this time according to speculations.....if its just the cosmetic changes why is it taking them so long....do they need to do extensive testing to see if the newer rear end doesn't rattle and fall off...may be there is more change than what meets the eye...or its just a wishful thinking

I personally think that you are going a little overboard. There is nothing that he has said in that interview that is not borne out in practice. Isn't the handling brilliant? Isn't the acceleration acceptable for the amount of power claimed on paper? Isn't the fuel average acceptable? If the answer to these is yes, his arguments are borne out. People have tried to put a larger tyre in the rear and have found that the handling and accelaration suffers. So where is he wrong?Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostI think he will have to eat his own words when the speculated new R15 with 'phat' tyres comes out. That Yamaha is thinking of putting a different size tyres, is due to our obsession with fat tyres. No one is answering the question about how is it any better than the current tyre? Only thing that people are going on about is how skinny it looks.
Also the guy has designed a brilliant bike, and he is technically far more competent that all of us here. Therefore, making such remarks that he will need to 'eat' his words is not just bad in taste its down right impolite.Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

I might sound impolite but i dont mean it, and does it take a genius to make out that a skinny tyre will lend better acceleration and fuel efficiency?Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostI personally think that you are going a little overboard. It's not about Indian biker's obsession with the tyre's width it's the bike's design aesthetics which we are talking about.
PS:The stellar handling/braking performance of the R15 is courtesy the superb Deltabox frame and not just the tyre. The tyre is just a part of the package and no it's not the "Best" tyre in the world.
And i sincerely hope the upcoming R15 has an engine upgrade if it comes with a 'phat' tyre otherwise they will be contradicting their own statements/claims.

Have to disagree with you on that partially... its not just the Deltabox chassis... its the complete package which includes the suspension, tyres, the chassis, the weight distribution between front and rear, the sprung to unsprung weight ratio and so forth... chassis alone is not responsible for the handling, it is a part of a system...Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostPS:The stellar handling/braking performance of the R15 is courtesy the superb Deltabox frame and not just the tyre. The tyres are a 'compromise', just as the chassis (that you say is the reason for its brilliant handling) is a 'compromise'... it is not made of aluminum as the 'original' Deltabox. There is a price quotient to be considered out here... it needs to be balanced with the best possible solution available for that price... over here people do not want to pay even the existing price... people simply compare figures on paper and make their 'knowledgeable' argument on forums about how something should be 'priced'...
... take a look what all has gone into creating this bike, it is a brilliant piece of machinery... I will leave you with this one last thought... in 1988 Yamaha introduced the FZR 400, which was hailed as the world's best handling bike period. This is a bike that rivals that handling, and you are getting it at a far cheaper price than a R125... where is the so called 'compromise' out here???Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.
