  • Re: Motorcycle Detailing Thread

    Hi All
I have recently bought a new bike with White paint on it.I know it's a pain to get shine out of white paint and small black dust from the road shows of very easily.Mostly on the Tank.My bike gets most of its muscle from the tank and its not metal.I don't really know how good the fibre and plastic parts react to wax and sealants but I want to take good care of my bike in its initial days.Came across the detailing thread and was quite happy to see so many enthusiasts.Me also being a learner would like to know what wax, prewax, sealant would be good for a bike with White paint.Because I could not find any discussion going on about detailing a light coloured bike ,if it's there do share the link. After going through some sites and links shared by xbhpians ,I have come down to these listed products and questions before going into my detailing endeavours.I require some experienced opinion on to what to choose among these

1)3M Car Wash. PH balanced so I guess this will be fine.Any better options do suggest

    2) Meguiars ScratchX2.0 or Swirl X.Which one to go for a pre wax session .As white colour also has swirls but less visible then the dark coloured vehicles.Since bike is new no heavy swirls at present.

3)Meguiars White Wax or Chemical Guys White Light Hybrid Radiant.Want to pick something specifically for the white colour.Megs White Wax is Carnauba based plus some polymer where as CG White light is gloss and sealant in one with swirl filling capabilities.Which one to go for.Whether any other options available .Do Suggest

4)Colonite 845.When I searched for sealants ,I found Col845 to be the most favoured insulator wax or sealant.Has a reputation of doing what it is made for. Protection and Shine.I also kind of have made up my mind to get this. Please do suggest if any better alternative available in this price range and category.

5)Quick Detailer.Should I go for quick detailer after this.It is really required. Suggestions please.

6)MotoMax Dashboard Polish for Matt plastic parts.Again Better suggestions if any

    7) MotoMax Tire Foam.Suggestions if any

IF I look back it definitely looks like a overkill but I feel anyone would do this for the bike he love and keep it as shiny and clean as possible. Will wait for your feedbacks and suggestions.

The best results from all the polishes I used for my bullet is from Autosol It is a bit expensive but is available readily in India and is easy to use and the surface is also protected by the formula, no need of aditional coating etc. Most of the other metal polishes do clean the surface well but not as good as Autosol and also get dull/oxidised faster. I will have to dig out the sellers number from my old contacts. Please pm me for more details.

Congratulations of your new bike purchase. Your focus on keeping your ride in good condition is commendable. All the products you have finalised are good and are being used by many bikers for many years now.

Light coloured/white surface looks good only when really clean and it becomes a pain to maintain if used in muddy roads.

The most important thing to remember before starting even with a simple detailing attempt is to have a thoroughly clean surface.

Invest in a couple of good spray bottles or a pressure washer if you don't mind spending more

Use microfiber towels for drying and applying wax and cleaning as well

Chrome also needs good and proper cleaning along with a protective coating ( during rains and if living near seashores)

Remember it is not necessary to hose down your bike with lots of water every other weekend to have a clean bike, it all depends on how good are you with your technique

          • Ceramic coating (Detailing)

I recently learnt about ceramic coating and was wondering if I should get it done on my R3. Just wanted to check on few questions before going for it, please suggest based on your experience. What is the difference between ceramic coating and glass coating? Which one is better? I have 2 detailing places here in Pune.. one is doing 5 layers of ceramic coating by Autotriz a German brand and will cover everything on the bike except exhaust and engine along with IR curing and the process will take 2-3 days and has 4 years warranty. And the other one is doing a simple simonize glass coating, an American brand and will not cover engine, exhaust and rims. The process just take 2 hours and comes with 2 year warranty. Which one should I go for? The latter is 6 times cheaper than former. Please suggest.

Moderators please help in moving this to the correct thread. Couldn't find a relevant forum to post this in. Thanks

                Hi guys,
I have a slight confusion. I own Pulsar 220 F and looking for wax and polish for the same. The thing is that the bike has different parts with different material.
So which wax is best for metal parts such as fuel tank, chrome maybe rims and which will be best for the plastic parts such as front and back fairings and side panel.

As stated earlier, wax and polish are two different products, Polish - for shine. Wax - for protection and wet look on the paint.

For Paint - Collinite 845/925/915 etc

For plastic parts - any tyre dresser would do.

My experience with PPF was quite ugly as side panels, petrol tank had gum patch marks after a month of installation(got them done with 3M Hyd), these spoil the look and leave PPFs coming off on sides. Had to remove it and money went down the drain. We had parked motorcycles in the sun for a week or so (from 11am-4pm) which i suspect heat also had destroyed these films.

My bike is usually parked in cellars, no issue, 3M which branch? how much did they charge? I have called 3m Banjarahills and Madhapur they are working only on car as of now!
