  • Help me in painting my bike

Guys, I have a Pulsar 150 classic, 2004 model. The bike had its engine kit etc. changed and is quite satisfactory in performance. Now I want to paint the bike as the original paint has degraded significantly. In my city, Guwahati, the mechanics have told me that painting the engine block is not recommended because the paint WILL chip off after some time. I have also noticed the same in many bikes which were painted. Can you guys please tell me what is the proper way of painting the engine so as to have the original finish?

( I want to know what coats of what will have to be applied how many times You see I will have to supervise the whole thing to get a satisfactory paint finish )

BTW - I am planning to have the bike painted in apache matt grey and the engine in black. What say?

Will it be durable and not chip off after say 6 month?

No paint will stay on the engine for a long time, it will chip off due to the heat
            created on the cylinder

Powder Coating is an option but like you said, they probably will chip off due to heat, heck even my bike's factory finish engine paint has started to chip off, but the durability of the paint is directly proportional to the price you pay and also where you paint it. Dupont are a reputed brand when it comes to paint, if possible find a Dupont paint booth and get it painted there itself, else you can try MRF's too

                  [cosmetic] paintjob - Pulsar

                  Hi guys,
I need help regarding paint-job in my pulsar 150...
Most of the portion of my ride looks fine, but the tank is starting to loose its gloss , and had a minor fall making scratches on all the usual places in the front fairing
I was wondering if i can get away with a clear-coat , or i'll have to do the full paintjob.
Attached some pics so you can judge..

Front fairing (can see the scratches)

There scratches can be treated by following the below steps:

                    Method 1

                    1. Wash the bike thoroughly
                    2. Do not polish or wax it
                    3. Once it is dry, prepare a lube spray by mixing wash shampoo + water in the ratio 2:1
                    4. In a paint shop as for rubbing compound or get motomax rubbing compound in Shell fuel stations. There are other products as well which are quite expensive. The coarseness of the compound is very important.
                    5. Apply the compound on the affected area in small amounts and start rubbing it down in circular motions spraying it with the lube spray prepared.
                    6. Step back from time to time to check the effect.
                    7. If the scratches are gone, you have successfully removed the clear coat or a layer of paint.
                    8. Once the scratches are removed wash the area again.
                    9. Use a high quality polish to polish the bike - Motomax/Wurth/Sonax/Vista
                    10. Once the polish is done, wax the bike again to retain the polish - Motomax/Sonax/Vista

                    Method 2

                    1. Wash the bike thoroughly
                    2. Do not polish or wax it
                    3. Once it is dry, prepare a lube spray by mixing wash shampoo + water in the ratio 2:1
                    4. Using a 2000 grip sandpaper wet sand the scratches gently with ample lube spray. You can also purchase a close match of the paint that matches your bike and touch up the scratched area with a small brush and again use the 2000 grit sandpaper to wet sand for smoothness.
                    5. Step back from time to time to check the effect.
                    6. If the scratches are gone, you have successfully removed the clear coat or a layer of paint.
                    7. Once the scratches are removed wash the area again.
                    8. Take it to a known paint shop and have it sprayed with clear coat again.
                    9. This whole procedure will be done by the painter itself.

I would recommend the 1st method.
                    All the best!
