the theory is that the super-lean set up caused the bike to heat up too much or something like that.

Thats because the bike was running in lean mixture and as we know lean mixture causes overheating. Before the server crash i had read before somewhere in a fiero fitted with kn all the oil got evaporated because the bike got overheated.

But in this case it's more because the bike was running lean whilst riding on thin air, since at higher altitudes the air density becomes thinner this will not aid to the proper combustion of fuel, leading to the engine overworking itself, hence the the result of the engine oil getting used up and finally resulting in an seizure

I think everybody has mentioned the right stuff - I have a small pique here...

whats the jet got to do with "letting air in" El Loco ? I am thinking you meant "let fuel in" ? correct me if I am wrong, the jets are there for fuel flow control only...

My take is that - as guru says.. its perfectly plausible that if you have put in a large custom/performance filter but haven't bothered to rejet/re-tune the carb and you rip her a lot - especially at higher altitudes ...its not impossible that the engine will seize.

OT: Quick before i say something else dastardly!!

But on a serious note, you were running on an K&N when you were still having your 200 right? what jetting was it running the best on? and which is the ideal setting for the K&N exposed or inside the air-box??

Putting the filter inside the airbox or cutting one side of the box is useless. It is just restricting the performance of the filter.

I always put the filter directly to the mouth of the carb. Remove the hose pipe, stick the filter directly.

P200 has a stock jet (main) of 110. I had a RC1060. I got the 115 main jet from the old Unicorn model and got the carb tuned many many many times before it was a somewhere near respectable and there was a small improvement in performance - perceptible improvement - not a placebo

But its a very small gain. That is why my argument is that, spending that much time and money is a waste - unless you just need the sound

Ideal setup? Hard to say. You will use a jet size bigger by 5# or so each time, retune, run for a while, check the plug, check throttle response, rev happiness, etc and then make a call ...trial and error. Lots of time reqd.

I too am running on the RC1060 exposed, the problem that is immediately apparent after changing was that the bike's cold starts, what used to take just one jab of the right thumb, now needs constant coaxing of the throttle too while i keep the starter on for more than 3-4 seconds, and no matter how much i get the carb tuned the idle is never at my desired level, it shoots up at heavy traffic riding and is too low if i slow down from an constant run, i know these are all the symptoms of the lean mixture, but what baffles and irritates me the most is the power delivery and the throttle response, the power delivery while earlier was progressive starting from 2500K upwards is now starting abruptly at 4000-4500K which is really irritating because this means that every time i brake, i'm cutting down three gears! whereas earlier it was only two during spirited riding, and the throttle response has gone very jerky, the only reason i'm still sticking onto this K&N is to find out whether the filter is really going to be of any use after going through all the trouble of re-jets and tune-ups
