Thread 'Teflon Coating Issue' approved and merged

Hey bikers..

I wanted to teflon coat my new R15 but a man who works in the showroom itself advised me not to do that.He said the bike would shine for only a week and the colour would then fade out so badly that the bike will not look good as it looked without coating.

But I have also heard many people advising to teflon coat the bike first. Im confused.

Please help

Hey Fauzan,

I would suggest that you invest in wax and liquid polish. Check out your local auto market for premium waxes from 3M and Waxpol which you can use one in 3 months. During monthly maintenance, you can go for liquid polish. I m not sure why your dealer stood against teflon coating, but this can be done once in a year from a reputed franchisee. If you have good spare money with you, then I would suggest that you go for Teflon protectant spray available in Ebay. It's little steep, but atleast you can save the labour charges and can have the satisfaction of maintaining your bike urself. Be careful with your plastic parts though, cause they can discolor very easily if you use sub-standard polishes.

Stefan - Go through the earlier posts. Its not a scribbling, its his fav actress Poonam who has signed on his ZMA tank & he treasures it very much & he wants to preserve the signature & not remove it. To the contrary, you're suggesting a method to get rid of the signature & the worst...calling it scribbling Lol

Ok, I've never heard of the actress, I assumed it was a prank from a friend and the dude just wanted to preserve his paintwork.

Just read few pages back about the Polymer coating.
It seems it's worth it's money and really do it's job well than the so called 'Teflon' coating that is done on most of SVC's.

I wanted to get it done my Ninja 250R. Any one who can point to where I can get this done in Delhi?

Just buy the stuff and do it yourself, it's similar to wax and may even contain waxes, a bottle will last you years, look for autoglym or meguires these are the most respected brands in the world, but overlooked here.

Hey guys, i brought home my TBTS yesterday evening, what i wanted to know was if i shld go in for a teflon coating or just wax polish it every month.. or both?
the RE showroom person charges 600 bucks for it, but i dont really know if its really teflon coating or just a wax polish. how do i find that out?
also should i expect any warranty on the Teflon coat?

There's no such thing as teflon coating as described by dealers, best to do yourself, you will gain more satisfaction and probably do a better job yourself, invest in a premium wax, meguires,collonite or autoglym are the best you'll find, a little costly but will last you years, what I do is build up a few coats/layers each coat must be allowed to harden for around 48 hours, i just do it weekly for four weeks, gives me a very high gloss, almost concours level and lasts for around 6 months before needing a new application.
