The approximate drain interval of Activ 4T is 2.5K a little you can extend to 3k MAXIMUM. Motul 3000 has say around 1000 KMS more than that, but more or less offers a little edge when compared to Castrol Activ.Originally posted by SriKi.GSpian View Posti want to know the approximate drain interval of the castrol activ 4t oil which is used for my gs150r by my svc!
and also shell ax7 and motul 3000 4t plus (as i want to purchase one among the two oils)
Cheers!

The recommended drain interval for mineral & semi-synthetic oils is 3000kms or 6-months , whichever comes earlier . That is for normal service .Originally posted by SriKi.GSpian View Posti want to know the approximate drain interval of the castrol activ 4t oil which is used for my gs150r by my svc!

Riding in stop-go city traffic for short hops all the time like I have to do is severe service , so I never run the oil more than 2000 kms or 4-months , whichever happens early . Moreover 4-stroke IC engines love fresh oil and you can't ever hurt the motor with early oil changes
. Drain the old oil hot .

On page 580 and 581 rossyamaha talked about flushing the engine oil but my Pulsar 180 ug4 user manual has not mentioned about flushing agent that can clean dirt before filling new engine oil but instead on page 18 of user manual it shows that engine oil filter should be replaced every 5000 km. What's the point of flushing agent when engine oil filter itself is not changed ?
Pulsar service men never told me about engine oil filter since 3 years but they replaced sponge air filter after making a call during the service that happened a year ago and charged me Rs 100 for it.

To be honest I really don't know where the engine oil filter is located in my bike. Can anyone show me its image here ?
Hotheadbeast, for your Pulsar 180 UG4.5 the price for 1 liter Castrol Activ Xtra 20W50 is Rs 290 in Hyderabad that I am using in my Pulsar 180 UG4 for the 1st time since last month service. All the previous 3 years I used Castrol Active 20W40 of price Rs 250 due to its unavailability in nearby shops and finally got it from Castrol showroom. All I can say is both 20W40 and 20W50
are differently smooth but 20W50 is bit louder and you can feel the sound of the oil flow in the engine. I don't know whether that slight loud noise is from 20W50 or perhaps some other reason that I can tell after changing engine oil filter.

The Pulsar series have a centrifugal oil filter, which is present inside the engine, as opposed to normal paper filters outside. Engine flushing shouldn't be done on every oil service, it should be done at an equal interval of 10k KMS or 5K depending on the bike's condition as the engine oil flushing chemical itself is very corrosive, so it should be used with a little diligence.Originally posted by Natfx7 View PostOn page 580 and 581 rossyamaha talked about flushing the engine oil but my Pulsar 180 ug4 user manual has not mentioned about flushing agent that can clean dirt before filling new engine oil but instead on page 18 of user manual it shows that engine oil filter should be replaced every 5000 km. Blackthorn, after reading the page 18 of user manual again my doubt was clear as it clearly states that Oil strainer/Centrifugal Filter requires cleaning and does not require replacement and below that it shows Engine Oil Filter ( Paper Oil Filter) which is not applicable for Pulsar 180. Confusion occurs if I won't read it carefully. All my doubts will disappear in this forum.
Thanks xbhp.

Hello fellow xbhpbians....i just bought my apache 150 (used one) two months back and i got lot of problems, my gear box gave a sound when each time i shift up or shift down the gear and when i was riding the bike i hear different sound...i was upset when my friends told "second hand bikes will be like that" and thought made a mistake on buying a second hand bike...after reading an article in xbhp, it told to change the engine oil and spark plugs and many other things immediately after getting a second hand bikes...my friends told me to put castrol oil but as u guys suggested i went on with motul3000 4T 20W40 but my mechanic refused to put that instead he asked me to buy castrol..but i forced him to put motul...
Result...
U wont believe guys..it works..the sound which came before when i was riding, disappeared...and the sound came from the gear box when i shift up or shift down gears are not there.....Thanks to xbhpbians...

Hi all
I have purchased Petronas Sprinta 4T 4000 for my Honda CBF Stunner. How is this engine oil for my bike as this is going to be the first time I am using Petronas. I have used Castrol Power 1 and Valvoline's Semi synthetic one (Don't remember the name) and both were good. I want to try Petronas now. Has anyone used it before? I have tried to search for reviews on this but all I could find is Sprint 4T 5000 which is Synthetic one.

Sprinta 4T 4000 is a really good oil than the 4T 5000 at in Pulsars that's the case. The former has a drain period of 2 to 3k and the latter 1k more. Surprisingly these work well in Honda and part Honda like the HH and it should be good for you.Originally posted by Raminder_Singh View PostHi all

thanx buddy and how is ur experience with valcoline?? is there any change in pick-up or mileage????Originally posted by Natfx7 View PostHotheadbeast, for your Pulsar 180 UG4.5 the price for 1 liter Castrol Activ Xtra 20W50 is Rs 290 in Hyderabad that I am using in my Pulsar 180 UG4 for the 1st time since last month service. and considering the engine of pulsar it's famous of its different sounds,
one mode is the normal mode when engine sounds like polythene rustling inside..
and the second is that sound when we instantly accelerate and it sounds like hammering....
because i have observed very less original sound in buddy pulsars because to increase the mileage bikers reduce the pick-up setting which ruins the pulse of pulsar...
my bike gives an average of 35 kmpl on bajaj genuine oil with original settings, and it is a 150 ug 4.5.... not a 180...
so what are your observations in change in your bikes sound??NO FEAR

I have ageneral query regarding oil change
i have bought a pulsar200ns on this dushera(24th oct)
The first service is at 1 month and next is at 8 months(at first service will have odo reading of just about 200-225km)
so is one supposed to change the oil in between 1st and second service?
i know the bajaj oil doesnt hold up long and after reaching abt 2.5K one should change his oil
but what if someone like me wont even complete 2K kms by second service
should i change the oil in between?
the next part of the query is should i change oil based on the no. of kms travelled (yes i know it depends on type of oil mineral semi or full synthetic...lets consider mineral with a drain period of 2.5-3K kms) or should i change with the amount of time used mostly have heard 3-4 months?
eg my riding is very less and i ride hardly 250-300km a month
if i go by distance my oil changing frequency would be 8-9 months
so should i change after 8-9 months or should i change after 4 months or usage?
is this oil changing pattern u suggest valid for all mineral semi and full synthetic?Pulsar 200NS parts list

Long story short. Change your engine oil based upon your ODO reading, not by months. Usage of your bike plays a major role in changing engine oils. So don't worry if months pass by. Just get your free service done at the required period, just so you get warranty, even if your bike doesn't clock much. After the free service, go by ODO. It's very simple.
Cheers!
