It's good to see a spirited oil discussion going on here.
I have a 2013 Yamaha FZ. I have mostly used Motul 7100 and Shell AX7 in it.
The bike was later modified with a big bore cylinder to make it 180 CC. (which was a very bad decision as the bike never ran well after that).
I continued using Shell AX7 semi-synthetic oil with a drain interval of 2-3k km since the bike was mostly used in Bangalore city traffic.
One day I was on a ride from Mangalore to Bangalore and the open road made me cruise above 100 for a long time. The bike was running close to the redline for approximately 1 hr I guess. While slowing down for a toll gate, I noticed a ticking sound and I had to keep the bike under 60 all the way to Bangalore.
On inspecting the mechanic told me that the bore and the crankshaft bearing has gone bad. I had to rebuild the whole engine after that.
I still don't know what caused the engine to fail, the 180 big bore was already on it for around 10k+ km, and the oil was only about 1000 km old. The oil level was also not low.
I have my doubts about the Shell AX7 10W40 oil. Whether it was not able to provide enough protection on such high loads on a pretty hot day is a question. I had done similar runs before as well and cruised above 100 without any problems while the bike had Motul 7100 15W50.
I have since used only Motul 7100 on the bike. But my question is regarding the thickness. Is xW40 enough for an engine that gets pretty hot considering our ambient temperatures go 30+ in summer? I see that the Motul oil recommendation chart specifies xW50 oil for almost all bikes including FZ. BTW, I also noticed that there is considerable oil burn when I use xW40 oil.
I have sure faith in 7100 as it is my go-to oil for my 390 and it has never let me down. But, it is the grade which I'm confused about!

I'm currently running on cheap Lal Ghoda I got for 190/liter but I was on the lookout for better oils at similar prices and stumbled on this, not exactly cheap but as per the stats seems to be better than top tier MC Oils.

    Do have a look.

    Hi guys,
Got my hands on this stuff now, its a local brand but performance is no less than any reputed brands available in the market. Very economical and equivalent to branded oils in performance. I'd been using Total Hi perf 4T mineral oil, compared to that engine is revving much more freely and slightly increased fuel efficiency and overall smoothness.
    Btw i have Suzuki GS150R 2009 clocked 68k kms.

While they are reputed, won't the 'local' environment and bike models, riding style & methods also play a big factor for how good they turn out to be? I'm coming from the point that an outside brand maybe excellent in their region because of the R&D they have invested, but may not have done it for other countries.

I maybe over thinking this and it could just be that most bikes and their internals remain the same and hence these brands are comfortable to sell them across countries with minimal R&D...

They have simple yet thorough list of MS/Scooter oils, and I'd suggest people to try it out too.

Castrol, savsol, veedol, adital, sharlu, too many local mom and pop shops, I just can't think of, selling their own rebranded oils. The reason I've posted Idemitsu here, they have a great reputation for being excellent heavy engine oils. Plus them venturing into two wheeler only expands the horizons for potential buyers instead of Motul. Motul has branded itself so well, that's it's almost a monopoly when it comes to upper higher CC bikes. Well, marketing does play a role, but then there are unsung heroes like these.

I totally agree with you about idemitsu, they make good products at a very competitive price..A fully synthetic oil at a price of semi synthetic....But you forgot to mentioned one more gem from East Asia "ENEOS"

Eneos is the Japanese manufacturer of automotive engine oils & transmission fluid that provide best performance, power & protection for cars and motorcycles.
