That's what i said in the last post. Use at your own discretion, while the high detergent values in those diesel engine oils help clean up the engine sludge usually, but it also have cases where the clutch slips and causes problems. So general trend is to change oil in shorter intervals, which while might be good for your engine in some respects but on the flip side thats a lot of oil waste that you need to dispose off carefully and responsibly.

P.S : This is again a skinny on the whole discussion which is of a broad spectrum. So do understand the risks and act accordingly.

Shiv's CBR thread is a huge source of information for the same. I'd suggest you check that too.

Highly recommend the Mobil super moto 10w40 for the uni. Works better than ax7 or any Castrol.

I never observed any drastic reduction in oil level while using motul engine oils, i started with 5100 ,used to keep it for 2000 kms, then to 7100 and used to keep it for around 3000 kms and finally 300v which is use for 5000 kms.

Now I use only mineral oil and drain it every 2k km.

The castrol power1 SS I used was of 15w40 grade. Hero 4t plus mineral oil from the ASC is 10w30 grade. We would think that power1 is thicker than hero 4t plus. But actually it's the opposite. 15w40 semisynth oil is thinner than 10w30 mineral oil. So I guess in older/air cooled engines with low compression these FS/SS oils get past the piston rings and burn in very minute quantity. Hence there will be no visible smoke or drop in performance but the oil level will drop very slowly.

Another problem is that these oils do not lose their viscosity even at drainage time. Your bike will be smooth even when the oil level will be low. So you don't notice it until you check the level or the engine gets seized!

But with mineral oil the bike will become very harsh during the drainage period. So you will naturally notice it and change the oil.

Note: All my points are related to bikes with air/air-oil cooled engines.
I don't know about oil life in liquid cooled engines.

Same thing happened with my brother's super splendor,( 36k kilometers on odo ) i used motul semi synthetic 10w 30 and after 3k kilometers when i drained it i was surprised that , about 300 ml of oil was consumed, the engine felt smooth and no smoke came from engine from that time i decided to use only mineral oil for my Hornet and super splendor.

I used to use mineral oil and change every 2000km and every thing was good. One day I went to buy new oil and the shopkeeper recommended castrol power 1 semisynth. I had a notion that it would last longer. So I bought and extended the interval to 4k km. Performance wise it was great but it simply didn't last that long. After using two cans of SS oil for 4k km each, my bike went straight to the SVC for bore-piston change. [emoji854]
In a liquid cooled engine tha case may be different though. A constant working temperature is maintained in these engines. I have read about a cbr250r which has done 125000+km with all stock internals. The owner mentioned about missing two or three services but still the oil lasted for 20k km!
