  • What price are folks paying for 15W50 Motul 300V these days?

Just checked at one place and got the shocked when they said its 985/-

I've been experimenting with different oils last few months so dont know the exact cost.

Any equally good if not better cheaper alternatives?

PS: Don't suggest 7100T ... my bike hated it

You can try Motul 5100 15W50 SS. Most bikes love it. My Zma does... And p220 riders are singin' praises too.

I've used 5100 for 35K Kms. Its a good oil, but I would prefer a FS oil

I've experimented with running a xW40 oil on my xW50 recommended bike, and it ran just fine. But it was a Shell semi-synth oil, not sure if I should continue that experiment with summers just around the corner.

At 750/ltr the price is still reasonable compared to the obscene almost 1K/ltr for Motul 300V.

Used W40 oil once accidentally. Burnt up in 300 kms of 'spirited' riding on my 220!! It was mineral though.

You can even try 10W50 Castrol Power 1, but best to use that only in winters. Its a steal for a FS at 650/litre

Used in a Honda engine , the Shell had performed better than the Motul 300 V in terms of smoothness, gear change, and equal longevity...at a lesser cost..

Pulsars are not kind to their engine oil and spirited runs invariably reduces oil life...that said Pulsars are recommended to use w50, and so a w40 may not give the klind of service a good w50 oil gives....,Compared to a w40, a w 50 is superior in Viscosity index, Kinematic viscosity at 100C and superior in Flash point temp and Shear resistance, due to the higher viscosity of the oil...
A w50 recommended engine will become noisy with a w40 oil

Sadly sir, I learnt that the hard way. But never again will use w40. But even then I was surprised at how badly the oil got burnt in just 300 kms

Ran semi synth 10W40 Shell oil, don't remember the exact name for about 3K kms.

And yes I always ride my bike spiritedly , About 200ml burnt up in total. Infact it ran as smooth as 300V for the first 2.5K kms. Only the last 500 odd kms harshness increase, but that cannot be attributed only to the engine oil

Thanks for the heads up, psr ji, as always.

I stacked the oil for close to a year before using them, have almost been using 5100 for the most part. I remember shelling out 1700 for both cans, a grand wholesaler, but now they've increased the price considerably higher, say in and around 1000/ liter, but in that ballpark, some 100 to 150 should be the difference.

+1 to the vibration part, at least mos don't read their manual on which oil to choose from the first place, run on their so called "intutition based oils" and blames on the engine part if it goes kaput or doesn't even come anywhere near it's expected life, sad but true.

But no matter, what engine you use in a Pulsar ji, it always rattles, it's in its genes, yes reduced a bit, but it will always remind you of the Kawasaki genes.

                          Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                          • Just heard through a friend that Shell Ultra w50 had been released in India ,with much better spec than the w40....So Pulsar owners have one better alternative now...cost is around 796/- MRP...If seller of oil is known then some discount is possible..
Shell India is not showing this release and lists only 10w40....

                            Kawasakis don't rattle..

No psr ji, I doesn't mean to say Kawasaki rattles, ayyo. It's the part heritage that's drawn from them, coupled with refinement issues that's what makes the distinct feature. I mean, if it weren't for Kawa, Pulsar wouldn't be in the first place. They gave gave the blueprint and they just derived without even more refinement whatsoever.

I would never say that, I would put a bullet to my brain than to say that Kawasaki rattles as Pulsars bikes, oh boy psr ji.

                              Cheers!

                              • Will be going in for an oil change soon. Probably i will get either shell rimula r3 or mobil delvac based on availability thanks to few users positive reviews.

                                @PSR'ji,
How many kms have you clocked yet on the oil. Any niggles popping up or anything to look out for??
