i want to know whether I can use the Castrol Power1 Racing (4T SAE 10W-40 Fully synthetic).....
I guess I can use however I am little skeptical because I dun have so much knowledge regarding engine oils...
please help me out..
No dude.. You can't use 10W40 in W50 grade bike... If you want fully synthetic, u can go in for MOTUL 15W50 synthetic.. What ever oil put, just make sure that u put the one which hav JASO MA rating. MB is for car....Last edited by sk8er_joe; 01-17-2009, 11:10 PM.

Finally, I could get Gulf 10w30 oil. Wrote to Gulf oil, and someone called me next day to tell me where I can get the oil.
If anyone in Pune wants the oil, it can be had from a shop (with a big Exide Battery board) opposite Karishma Apts in Kothrud. Or mail Gulf to know where its available in your area. Apparently they have 20W40 oil also.
Got it for Rs. 200. MRP mentioned is Rs. 209.
Now, 2 issues about this oil.
1) It seems to be not endorsed by Hero Honda... as there is no such logo or statement to this effect on the pack (the way its written on HH oils made by Idemitsu / BP / Tide water). It seems its only Gulf Oil themselves promoting this oil.
2) The pack simply mentions "Extended Drain Interval". No mention is made about how much!!! The Hero Honda oils clearly mention 6,000 km ( with top-ups at 2,000 km ) as the recommended drain interval. So I assume this oil will not last as long as the Hero Honda oils. If true, this sucks!
The good point is that Gulf Oil claims that the oil exceeds API SL and JASO MA2. The Hero Honda oils are rated to be API SJ.
Gulf claims it to be a Synthetic Blend. I wouldn't read much into that as most such claims (by all companies) are just possible marketing tactics; as none of them declare the synthetic component percentage or any other details.
Can't make any personal comments on the oil as am yet to use it.Last edited by Raccoon; 01-18-2009, 03:02 AM.

thanks guys for enlightening me regarding the engine oils....
well i actually wanted to have synthetic oil for my bike....now sine you have given me the names and options of other company oils which I can use.....I am having a small query will I get the same result that of Castrol Power1 racing..!! I mean will it be that much smooth etc.!!

Nobody can really answer such questions as different oils give different experiences on different bikes.
However, dont fall for an oil just because it feels smoother on your bike... thast NOT the only criterion!!! Its more important to choose an oil thats technically correct for your bike.
Suggest you dont waste your money on overpriced synthetic oils, unless you really need them.

Just like its fashionable for women to wear heels even if its not good for them, some people love to prescribe Motul 15W50 to everyone!

Power 1 loses is quality within 500-1000 Kms despite being Semi-SyntheticOriginally posted by Deepakumarmy Zma gears had becum rock hard
, recently shifted to power1, bcoz of power1 im feeling this bloody hardness
, plz tell me wut to use guyz plz!
I suggest you stick to HH XW30 Oil.
If you want to experiment try other XW30 Oils (Unfortunately not many choices).
You can also try synthetic oils like
Castrol Power 1 racing 10W40 (~700Rs), Motul 300V 5W40(~700Rs+).
Drain period should be 6000-8000 KMS, depending on the usage.
I have heard R15 owners showering praise for yamalube (semi-synthetic XW40).Last edited by cssk; 01-18-2009, 11:21 PM.

^^^CSSK, dude, you are recommending him oils which aren't even of the right grade.
I'd suggest you stick to Hero Honda oils made by one of the companies I'v mentioned. The new Gulf Oil should also be a good option. You can't go wrong with these options.
Yes, if 10W30 is the grade your ZMA requires, there are very few options. If its 20w40, there are many options... but consider the API rating also!

I know it requires XW30, but if you remember Pre-Karizma R bikes were using 20W40 rated oils, and for your knowledge HH didnt do any mods to the Karizma R engine, so XW40 should still work like it used to in old karizma.Originally posted by Raccoon View Post^^^CSSK, dude, you are recommending him oils which aren't even of the right grade.

There are many who are using XW40 on their Karizma R, including sandeep himself.

Yes, I know that. But still, its best to go by the manual. If the manual says 20w40 (older Karizmas) best to go for that. If its newer, it will be 10W30.
10W40, 5W40, etc., are not recommended grades for either. And I know many will justify their use as only the lower temp viscocity is different. But that logic is based on half baked facts. Technically, it is not recommended. But then its your engine... to do with as you please.

Is that so?? cos I am using Power 1 for quite a long time and I change oil within 2000-2500 KMOriginally posted by cssk View PostPower 1 loses is quality within 500-1000 Kms despite being Semi-Synthetic
Any other better recommended oil than this??You Make Your Choices, And You Don't Look Back

Well, its not 100% correct my friend. I think many people are giving their views regarding a particular engine oil because they have used it and happy by their performance.Originally posted by hitanshu View PostJust like its fashionable for women to wear heels even if its not good for them, some people love to prescribe Motul 15W50 to everyone!
And if you take motul 5100 semi synthetic, itsw not at all money waste. Getting a can for rs.395/ltr and you can easily do 4000kms with it.
So whats the harm spending 100rs./1000kmsits all about CC...

Called up Gulf Oil regarding the drain period issue (mentioned in one of my earlier posts).
This is the reply I got -
The New Gulf Pride 4T oil (20w40 and 10w30) has a drain period of 10,000 km in "Ideal conditions". About 6,000 km under normal conditions. And about 4,000 km under severe conditions.
I asked him what he ment by "ideal conditions". I was told that its considred cruising at around 50 kmph at constant speeds. This condition of course is hardly encountered... except say when driving on highways. So for most people 6,000 km drain interval is recommended.
I thanked him for the info, but told him that verbal assurances dont hold weight, and the same MUST be printed on their oil containers. He said he will check... called me back later and told him their 20w40 bottles have this printed on them, but the 10w30 bottles dont. He said they will try and print this info on their 10w30 bottles also.
So if anybody is looking for an oil of this viscocity, its worth trying out as the drain period is possibly the longest for any oil I have seen in the Indian market (excluding the Hero Honda oils, of course). In 20w40, I don't think any oil has this kind of drain period. The oil is claimed to be a "synthetic blend".
