Any other better recommended oil than this??
The Probiking guys(Khivraj BLR) used to put power1 semi-synth in my P200 initially during running-in which is 15W40. It was very good for first 500Kms after that the smoothness drops rapidly.

    Which bike do you have?
How many kms do you run in a month?
    Your Budget?

And if you take motul 5100 semi synthetic, itsw not at all money waste. Getting a can for rs.395/ltr and you can easily do 4000kms with it.
So whats the harm spending 100rs./1000kms
      Well said, i second that.
BTW why is it so costly?, i got it for 320 in bangalore from the motul dealer four months ago. Try to get it from dealers.

Also i have seen people mentioning power1 racing fully synth to cost 750Rs, but i got it for 650Rs a month ago near my home and is running in my dad's activa.

JASO MA2 is the latest engine oil spec, so its better than the older JASO MA.

It is very good, VFM. Drain period is 4000-5000 Kms. But its 15W50 rated oil, so don't use it on your karizma, bike wont rev freely and will have other issues.

Better go for any 5W30 or 10W30 rated oils, as Raccoon said you can try New Gulf Pride 4T oil (10w30).

Sandeep is using power 1 racing 10W40 on his karizma R without any probs and is happy with it. Motul 300V 5W40 should also do the job. Both are fully synthetic and should easily last 6000-8000 Kms depending on the usage. I would prefer the latter though.

Yamalube is the oil recommended by yamaha to be used in R15, it is semi-synth AFAIK, rated XW40, its from Exxon Mobil.

That price was 4 months ago and good to see that your using the same oil for 4months...
and I just bought in December, 4 bottles with December 2008 manufacturing, the price has been revised to 395/ltr. And yea I directly contact a dealer.
Even they refuse to give discounts saying that its has a very less margin coz its directly imported
                its all about CC...

                • Which one is a tried, tested and recommended 20w50
                  1. castrol Activ Xtra
                  2. Motul 5100 15w50
                  3. Valvoline Premium 4T
                  4. Any other

Usage: 20 kms dails city riding. 150kms every weekend, cruise at 70-90. Yes, engine does heat up a bit. I am not looking to rip the bike at 100 etc.

I am looking to switch from my current oil (I think the guys at BikeZone have used Castrol Power which is a 20w40). The bike is a Avy180

I will appreciate if people can help me with places where I can get Castrol Xtra and Motul in Bangalore.

                  Thanks,
                  Beo

                  • You also get Veedol Take-off 4T Plus and BP's MAK in that range. Veedol might be a better idea. Not used these oils... just mentioning the options.

                    I wouldn't use the Motul 15w50 if I were you. Get a 20w50 only.

                    • MAK makes trouble free ride impossible.

never put any of the oils from the IOC, BP or HP stables, not worth on the higher end bikes, only good for scooters which need oil mixed with petrol

HH oils do fine but they don't last long under severe conditions, ill try the gulf 10W30 soon enough let's see whether itd last the tour i have in mind i doubt the 4000km they say under severe conditions, although the price seems to be a steal for this kind of performance by the oil !

A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

Hmm... is it? Btw, MAK comes in 3 variants - 4T, 4T Plus and Excel. All 3 are sub-par??

Anybody has any experience with Veedol? They are known to have good products...

Will be trying the Gulf 10w30 myself, soon. Have heard good things about it from people who have used it. And it is VFM @ around Rs. 200 for 900ml. With my kind of use, I wouldn't wanna spend more than that for an oil... esp. when Hero Honda oil sells at around Rs. 160 approx.

                        • well if its bad on a splendor then its well not worth even trying on my bike (roomie's splendor) , gearshifts became very hard. engine was rough and not revv happy (in the splendor) . So after that i never can even think of putting mak in my bike.

do give you initial reports on the Gulf soon !

                          • OK. Heres the updated list for xxW50 oils:
                            1. castrol Activ Xtra
                            2. Motul 5100 15w50
                            3. Valvoline Premium 4T
                            4. Veedol Take-off 4T Plus
                            5. Any other
I havent included MAK here due to availability issues reported by a lot of people.

Any particular reasons. If I know correctly, 15 vs 20 would matter only at lower temperatures say like below 5'C. Have you or any other member personally seen any issues with the Motul5100. I have read on this forum that its a bit thinner than others, but if it does hold the viscosity for a longer time I guess it should be worth it. Correct me if I am wrong

Any feedback on any of the above? esp the Castrol Xtra and Motul 5100?

                            Thanks,

The SHELL oil(Brand name HELIX IIRC) is a 20W50 fully synth. Their mineral is 20W40. Also the MOTUL 300V is a fully synth 15W50 oil.
