Not really, it's purely a matter of cost savings especially in India. Yes most low end grades are manufactured in India as you can see from the back of the container, where it's licensed and manufactured in India. But higher spec like 5100 and 300V are directly imported. Who knows we might even see them locally sourced and if it were the case the cost would be reduced a little, but not dramatically.

Guys, I am fully enjoying ELF Performance 3D oil I have been using in my Fazer. Yesterday went for my car's servicing and they have put Petronas Urania CI-4 oil in it. So even this option would be good. API CI-4 are the oils to look out for.

That's good. But comparing the Urania (hope the name suggests it has so me uranium to it, ) but the CF 4 looks even more upped in terms of ante as compared to CI-4 and BTW how much did it cost you

I have used 20w40 , 20w50 and 15w50 grade of oil in my pulsar. After an ownership of 2 years I faced the issue when for the first time I switched to 15W50. Given below in the link you can see another Pulsarian facing issue when he switched to FS.

Stability issues because they don't ride it like a street bike and they want it to behave like sports bike aka R15 .
I have ridden it for quite some time and didn't feel anything bad about handling except tires .
I am currently using motul 15w50 and have no issues with it in 220.

I have faced aome issues in my pulsar 150. Dont have an ownership experience of 220. But 3 of my friends have p220. They are hardcore tourers , they told me about two things. Body rattling and frequent chain slack adjustment. Then I have my cousin using pulsar for 10 years and he actually suggested me to go for it. I don't face any major problems except my piston block went kaput. The reason is still unknown to me. But since it happened during my first use of 15w50 I am scared to try SS oil again. Sometimes it also depends on rider and the way he rides. I travel almost 60 to 70kms a day so cant expect me to drive at 60kmph. Another friend of mine used p150 for 1year travelled 3lakh plus kilometer in that period. Spent around 20000rs during his ownership. Sold the bike and now using dazzler for past 1.5year. Since he is in marketing he has to travel almost 30000km per month.

CI-4 < CI-4 Plus < CJ-4 .. CH-4 is lower than CI-4. Cj-4 would be fully synthetic hence not recommended. One should get Shell Advance Ultra or Motul FS in place of CJ-4s.

I got it for 280/L. 1L can is also available. Mobil Delvac was good too but it was kind of thick. Would be very good choice for long distance rides. But CI-4 oils are what we are looking for. Rimula R4/Mobil MX/ELF Performance 3D/Petronas Urania are some such oils. Would recommend it for any motorcycle whether 95 cc or above which does not come factory filled with FS.

3lak per year? Oops I did around 20k in one year .
Yeah my chain busted in less than 15k km but that's the average life you can expect from an O ring chain under hard usage.
I switched to motul just 1k km back and your post is giving me goosebumps .
I accept that pulsars are not that reliable but they give so much more smile than those reliable bikes .
Did you use valvoline 20w50 I used it for 15k kms and its very good for its price

Are you sure?? 3 lakh km/year is equal to 25,000 km/month. That is 833 km/day. At an average speed of 60km/hr he is riding 13.8 hours per day! At an average speed of 80km/hr he is riding 10 hours per day without fail!

If that is true - He is consuming 37500 INR fuel per month if his bike gives 50km/l mileage!

Ask him to stop marketing and try Guinness book of records!

Hi everyone. First and foremost I would like to thank everyone on this thread for the vast knowledge shared on engine oils. Its really informative. I have a Honda dream neo which has clocked 5K kms in 5 months. The company recommendation is 10W30. But, like Pinaki sir, I also have chosen to discard the warranty and have started using 20W40 oil.

My previous experiences with various oils are as follows

Honda 10W30 - Loses viscosity by 1000 kms. engine gives out a burning smell.
Castrol Activ 20W40 - The oil feels heavy. engine becomes noisy. clunky gearshifts. mileage came down from 70 Kmpl to 60 - 62 Kmpl.
Shell AX5 20W40 - Not as heavy as castrol but feels heavier than Honda oil. accelaration is good. Feels very smooth at speeds below 60 Kmph, loses steam above 60 kmph.
Shell AX7 10W40 ss - Read a lot of good reviews about this oil. Helped in cold starts during the recent winter in Pune. I was astonished to find out that the engine smoothness and gear shifting was better when I used Shell AX5.

I have read a lot of good reviews about Motul 3000 4T 20W40. I have searched with a lot of dealers in Pune. The only Motul oils available are 10W30 or 20W50 grades. Please suggest good oils in 20W40 grades. Thanks

Thanks for the calculation bro. Never counted it. I will definitely ask him. But for sure he travels minimum 300km per day that I know. Coz from his home to office is 150km one side. And he still does that. Apart from city traveling that he does to travel to his client places.

Motul and Shell AX7 are very good oils indeed, but why not consider HDEO, as you've read and seen, it offers better engine protection.

Finally got 1L of Mobil's Delvac "1300 Super" for 280 INR. Oil change tomorrow. For the next 2500-3000 kms, the "hard working commercial engine" of my GS150R will be using this oil. Hope the experience turns out to be good.

Do we get Chevron's Delo series in India?

I am a bit hesitant in trying out HDEOs. The major reason being that if anything goes wrong, I wont be able to use any motorcycle oils again as the block-pistion would be attuned to HDEOs.

The only motuls available are in 10W30 and 20W50 grades. I have searched a lot in pune for motul.
I, myself am surprised that AX5 is more smoother than AX7 in my Honda Dream Neo.. It would be helpful if someone might suggest a better option than AX5 in 20W40 grades.

                            Thanks in advance

20w40 is the most sold oil grade , so there are lots of good 20w40 oil in the market for you yet . Other than the motul 3000 4T , look for gulf pride 4T plus 20w40 , Yamalube 4T 20w40 @ nearest yamaha service center & Servo 4T 20w40 @ Indian Oil petrol pumps . I've used all of these and they are equally good IMHO .

Thank you for the help Pinaki sir. I would love to try Yamalube for my next oil change. I hope Yamaha wont go the Honda way and shift their oils from 20W40 to 10W30 grade. That seems to be the trend with manufacturers and oil companies. Most of the Motul dealers are promoting 10W30 oil instead of 20w40.
Pinaki Sir - Have you ever used Elf moto gold 20W40? I have read in this forum that MOtul and Elf oils are thicker. I hope it doesnt result in drop of mileage.
