Usually mineral oils have inherent w30 viscosity. Before the invention of multi grade oils.. pure mineral w30 oils were used. In winters small amount of thin liquids like kerosene wss used to start the motor but it thinned the oil at operating temperature, which was resolved by addition of VIIs. Then pour point additives were factory poured in the oils and no need to add thinners. These were called multi grade oils.
5w30 can be a fs or a ss. But a 0w30 is an fs for sure. To check whether an oil is fs check API category. API SN are predominantly FS oils.
Replaced the engine oil today. The old oil was 5 months old but only used for 1500 odd kms. The oil right now in the machine is mix of Delvac 1300 + ELF Performance 3D, both 15w40 grade. Couldnt avoid mixing this time.Last edited by muztariq; 05-03-2014, 08:37 PM.

Motul has only two Semi-Synth oils with JASO-MA2(2011) certification in India, viz:
Motul 5100 10w30
Motul 5100 15w50
an intermediate grade something like 15w40/10w40 is missing. I assume they only cater to prospective demand.
Anywayz, I would like to brew a mix of above two Semi-Synths to get something between 10w40 - 20w40;

All mineral oils are produced from same basic petroleum feed, different oil viscosity will not react with each other because the base oil is same,it is the different oil Additive between the brands which should not be mixed, different viscosity grade of the same brand oil are compatible.

Well it is quite tricky to answer that what should be the proportions, but still you can go for equal parts mixing, one of my friend is mixing oil this way and till now he is very happy, the results are good, infact he uses two different brands one of Mobil and the other one of Valvoline, just dont mix synthetic oil with regular oil, or semi synthetic with fs oil, though in short intervals it won't do any harm, but in the longer run you are negating the properties of superior oil by adding mineral oil to it or by adding semi synthetic to full synthetic.Originally posted by SparKot View PostCan you give any hint about the proportions(ratios) of the mix?

Do you want to use 10w60 oil from agip, the oil is recommended for highly modified multi valve racing bikes, anti foaming agents are used in this oil plus most of the high end bike manufacuteres like ducati, aprilia, bimota recommend using this oil.Originally posted by Jith_in View PostAny reviews abut agip racing oil...???

hello everyone.
I own Royal enfield C350 since 3 months.
I am experiencing roughness while riding my bike.
I want to know which engine oil is best for UCE 350 engines?, Motul 300V, 3000, or 5100(All 15w50)
And my bike runs around 375kms per month, but it runs everyday though. So how frequently I must change my engine oil? Because it would take 8 months to meet the recommendation to change the engine oil.

Your running is on lower side. IMO, go for Mineral (Motul 3000) or Semi-Synthetic (Motul 5100) oil. 300V is Full-Synthetic oil and costs whopping Rs. 1100/ltr of can. If you are keen on Full-Synthetic oil, there is Motul 7100 (not sure if 15W50 is there or not), this will be easy on pocket. Although, if you are not cost concious and don't mind spending a bit, then go for Motul 300V with eyes closed. It is a gem of an oil.
Drain Mineral oil @ 2000kms, Semi-Synthetic @ 3000kms, Full-Synthetic @ 4000-4500kms.
