Re: Engine Oils
It is very possible that he didn't actually do the oil change and told you he did . It's common practice . Like tightening the drain bolt with a foot long wrench and all their might . Lots of other common practices they have adopted shall make you shudder if you see .
So , always do your own oil changes . With you own hand . It is a simple process and well detailed in all owner's manual . The required wrench is present in every bike's tool box . Every biker should be able to do oil changes at least . Bike motors love fresh oil . Drain the old oil hot and do not over-tighten the drain bolt .
What is your feedback about this oil ? All my friends using it says their scooter is transformedOriginally posted by SparKot View PostGot a bottle(800 ml) of Motul Scooter oil for my Access125 (May-2010) ..

We had couple of GS150R owners sharing that thought. This is my first Motul mineral oil purchase.
My Access125 is with my dad at hometown (300 kms from BLR). Will be visiting hometown this weekend and hence I can only comment next week. There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

Re: Engine Oils
hmm.. I have seen some chinese made oils named AGP, bluestar at some workshops. This does confirm that it is always better to get the oil changed in our own presence. Better still if we buy the oil from a oil shop.Originally posted by kusmaker View PostYes that's the interesting part isn't it, on the quality of the engine oil because the mechanic changed the oil in my absence i can't comment on quality although he said he has used genuine yamalube, i even asked that why did he changed the oil he said it was necessary as the existing oil was not good in colour, i was not convinced with his answer but then i thought that after all it's for a good purpose, but this time when i drained the oil i found oil was less in quantity plus black in colour, quite possible because iam not riding hard nowadays my bike's engine has survived.

Curious. What do you do with the old oil? Where/how do you dispose it off?Originally posted by Pinaki View Post, always do your own oil changes . With you own hand . That's the most interesting & important part.Originally posted by eliksir View PostCurious. What do you do with the old oil? Where/how do you dispose it off?
I had collected all drained oil in 5 ltr container and 1 ltr bottles . Building construction workers at my hometown used it up for concrete work as a cheap substitute.
I'm still waiting for options in Bengaluru.
Edit:
I'm not sure if I'm proud of it.

And you're proud of it?Originally posted by eliksir View PostYeah, this is the puzzling part. Once I did that and gave to my apartment security guard. Later that day saw the bottle on the roadside leading to the apartment and the oil had spilled all over. Looked like he had thrown it :/
just kidding. What he's supposed to do? Lube apartment gates & lifts?
1 ltr bottles are standard for motorcycles if procured from outside retailers. Apparently, you heard about bike-specific bottles.Originally posted by anilkumar9hai.. Tell me the brands of engine oils comes with 10W30 1LITRE ?

Re: Engine Oils
There are one type of users generally get oil changed during servicing at a workshop and are not aware what oil the mechanic pours in the bike. The other type of users are like us who research, discuss, share experiences and then take a decision of which oil goes in our bikes.
800+ pages of information discussed about engine oils here. GR8
one point I would like to mention here. Try to source oils which have atleast one certification. It is difficult to source a oil which is jaso as well as API certified.
Oil companies either apply for Jaso or for API certification.
What i mean by certified is that the oil bottle you buy should have this exact mark printed on the bottle for Jaso certification.
check Appendix 5 http://jalos.or.jp/onfile/pdf/4T_EV1105.pdf
There is a big question mark on the quality of oils marketed by companies claiming to "meet jaso standards" or "exceeds jaso standards"
Please find below list of oils certified from JASO as on May 2014
Similarly please find below link for API certification and its mark on the bottle
Thanks

Re: Engine Oils
lol no. I did give him a piece of my mind when I saw that. And yeah, he had said he could use the oil for the gates, which was why I gave him the oil in the first place.Originally posted by SparKot View PostAnd you're proud of it?

Re: Engine Oils
I believe you are right he might not have changed the oil, i always change the oil by myself, actually i left my bike at his shop for just carburetor cleaning and tuning and i never said to him to change the oil, this part he did by himself.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostIt is very possible that he didn't actually do the oil change and told you he did . I have always changed the oil by myself only on one or two occasion i have got it changed by the mechanic this was the first time oil was changed in my absence(which actually wasn't), but this time i was in a hurry plus i did not want an oil change, he did it deliberately just for money, iam also from ones who tries to research and keep hunting for newer and better oils.Right now iam looking for royal purple oil.
