Well I wouldn't say so. If the oil gets thin then it looses its ability to lubricate correctly and thus the vehicle runs rough and cold starts become difficult due to higher metal on metal contact. So the guidelines are not entirely wrong. Though if there is a service interval, I would suggest one stick to the same unless there is a problem with the bike or different grade oil is used than recommended grade.

Re: Engine Oils
I have lived mostly in delhi where in winters there is freezing cold. I never faced any challenge in starting even with 6k km or 6Month old oil. There are times that people run out of oil but still their vehicle starts usual.Originally posted by Balgi View PostWell I wouldn't say so. It is not thinning that affect cold starts but oil thickening that impacts it.
In cold, the oil further thickens and it is difficult to start the engine. But it is more prevalent in freezing cold temperature. Most of indian climate is above zero deg celcius and any 15wXX grade will give a flawless start.
As I said, someone living in sub zero temp. may take help from that article as he may have starting problems when the outside temp is -15 deg cel. But I have never encountered such starting problems coz of oil thickening.

I never said the guidelines given in the link are "patthar Ki lakir" bro. I also have seen what you mentioned in your post. I was just saying what was in the link wasn't exactly wrong. I also said there is no need to follow the guidelines, instead you should keep to the service schedule in your bike's manual book for best results.
I never said you were wrong bro.

Re: Engine Oils
I was trying to correct you when you said in cold thin oil would cause starting problems. It is actually oil thickeing that causes starting problem in the cold.Originally posted by Balgi View PostI never said the guidelines given in the link are "patthar Ki lakir" bro. I never said thin oil. I said non adhesive oil that has lost its lubricating ability. Oil thickening just causes the engine to be sluggish in every aspect of its function. And with thickening it only occurs in the cold. In summer thick oil is actually a boon.

Re: Engine Oils
Brother Rs.2200 for 5100,thats expensive.Check in harobazar.com,7100 for Rs.2000.Originally posted by shreezan View PostGuys. I changed the oil from bajaj to motul 5100 15w50 some 600odd kms ago in my 200ns. Since it isnt available in my country, nepal, i bought it in Singapore when i was there. And after i used it i had minor leaks (spots could be seen after riding for a day; 10-20 kms) of it from the left side. Did it happen because of the oil? So recently i went to svc for 4th servicing and told them this issue. And after they finished, they said they had fixed it and topped up with ~200ml of bajaj oil. So i am worried because my bike is now running on 1l motul and 200ml of bajaj oil. is this a worrying issue?
So far it doesn't feel much different. I don't want to change the oil because a litre of it set me back by Singaporean $27 ~ 2200nrs and have got 4.8 lt of it for days to come. But if is too concerning i will have to change. P.S even while riding on motul my bike didnt feel much different. Infact i didnt feel it to be any different from bajaj. Why is this? As many people in the ownership thread had said that it would immediately start feeling very very different. It used to be smooth and still is. Note: The odo reading was 43xx kms when i started using motul. I have uploaded the pic from where the leak happened. Its after the bike was washed so it isnt leaking now but just to give an idea about from where it did.Put The Pedal To The Metal

Re: Engine Oils
In the range of less than 500, shell Ax7 is a good oil. You can also try 1000rs/litre Motul 10w40 and Shell 10w40 oils for karizma.Originally posted by vinodksf View PostWhich oil is best for karizma zmr....which gives smooth ride please help .....

Re: Engine Oils
Muztariq has given you spot on advice above. Being a bit specific from my side, I'd really think you should use 7100 10W40. . It's become a religion for me. Once you go Motul, there's no turnin' back dude. Just pour it. [emoji106]Originally posted by vinodksf View PostWhich oil is best for karizma zmr....which gives smooth ride please help .....

Re: Engine Oils
Motul 7100 20W50 is the best amongst the one you listed.Originally posted by united View PostHi friends, I have yamaha fz. Pls suggest the best fully synthetic from the following-
1. mobil1 FS
2. motul 7100 FS
3. elf moto FS
4. gulf FS
5. valvoline FS
or any other except castrol
Motul 5100 (the r15 oil) is a cost effective option.
In a parked vehicle any oil would do. If your parked vehicle would be started for 15 mins per month, use any 10w30 oil. It would circulate faster, would warm up faster, would burn corrosive water quickly and within 10 mins of idling.Originally posted by NIGHTMARE View PostI have karizma zma and i don't live in india, i was using shell Rimula R3 still in engine. Now the bike is parked for yr, which engine oil should be good so there will be no haram to engine.
Rimula is a good oil for daily commute or long rides. You can keep it if someone would ride you vehicle occasionally.

Re: Engine Oils
Have been using Veedol Take Off 4T (20W40 in FZ) API SM for past 2k kms.Originally posted by gallifrey View PostCan anyone who has used veedol lubricants in their bike shed some light about the quality? Planning to change my engine oil and would like some feedback on it.
Pros:
No sign of wear in the oil till date, oil loves to be revved, no problems for highway runs, throttle response is crisp, engine runs silent.
Cons:
Engine heats up in city traffic or stop go traffic, handle bar vibrates for sometime after the bike is kept idle for few minutes (irrespective of how many kms you have ridden), gear slippage (during downshifts).
Cheerz!!The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.
