      1. Did you asked this question on the Honda Unicorn thread in the Motorcycle Ownership Experience section?.

      2. Why are you so particular about the Valvoline brand?. better brands are easily available...( Motul and Shell are the top brands currently )

      my suggestion....try the semi-synthetic Shell Advance AX7 10W40 :-

Can you locate a tech-spec sheet (MSDS - PDF) for that engine-oil (Valvoline champ 4t 20w40 API SN)?
I'm unable to find one easily.

@ Freak inExile...even I was not able to find the MSDS
@ prasath_ xbhp... 1) No..I checked in Honda Unicorn thread but could not find any update. 2 ) Nothing about the brand...only that it was semi-synthetic with API SN grade and cost was Rs 260...will try shell advance AX7 10W40 as you suggested...any idea on the cost ?

Try 15w50 motul 3100 if you ride highways.

Wouldn't 15w50 be an overkill for unicorn ? Just asking

I've seen & heard mostly 20w40 oils being used for pre 2010 unicorns but considering monsoons on the way & bikes seen a lot of mileage (plus you're ready to try a 10w40 oil) I think 15w50 should do a good job on the highway.
P.S : sometimes all you need is a motorcycle specific 15w40 grade oil

yesterday I found it in a shell fuel station retailing for Rs. 399/-. The valvoline oil you have mentioned above is mineral I think thats why its cheap...not to say minerals are inferior but thats how oils are being priced.... mineral < semi-synthetic < fully-synthetic

As an emergency measure, can car oil( of the relevant grade) be used? in the worst case scenario what can happen?

i am going to change the gear box oil for my Suzuki MAX100R.....earlier the spares dealer near my locality recommended Castrol CRB....now he recommends this Shell Rimula R1, which is a multigrade diesel engine oil....he says there no problem using these oils in 2-stroke bikes as gear oils....can I use it?...is it ok?

                              Hello,

I own the first Gen Maestro and i plan to service it myself from now
Grade SAE 10W30 SJ Grade (JASO MA)
is the recommended brand, shall i get this itself? or shall i go for 10w40?
Also, Which Oil synthetic oil/semi synthetic oil/ Normal one?

                              please suggest.
                              The scooter has clocked 9000km
do i just have to remove the oil and put in the new one? (any guides on this forum i can refer to?)

                              Thank you.

Use normal 10w30 jaso mb oil from shell ,motul ,gulf and change it every 2k kms..for summer u can try 10w40 yamalube ray engine oil or servo 20w40 scooter oil.
