Fully synthetic oils like motul 7100 10w40 will be good for your bike..it will make less and tear in engine..you will experience a smooth engine and hasslefree gear shifting. Try it.. Don't use shell.. you can also try castrol power1.it will reduce the temperature than any other oil

    • Engine oil for a really long trip (Street 220)?

      Hello Motorheads,
I have bought a Bajaj Street 220 on 13 Dec 2016, been riding it for a while and have clocked around 750 kms. First service done and replaced yhe engine oil with Bajaj Engine Oil (pic attached).
The gears seem a bit clunky now.
I am still riding under 60 kms. Now, the problem is that I have a trip planned on 1st Feb 2017. It will be of around 1500 kms one side.
I dont think that this engine oil will cut it. Which one should I go for?

      Thanks in advance...

Semi Synthetic is best for low displacement bikes.
Fully Synthetic is mostly for high displacement bikes, like 300/500cc engines, and above.

I have the same bike. Wouldn't advise the Bajaj oil at all. Go for the Motul 5100 oil, it's best for DTSi engines.
Also, avoid fully synthetic oil if possible. At least until 10,000km on Odo.

Because shell ax7 and ultra have lesser draining period when compared to other brands even though they are semi and fully synthetic.for eg shell ax7 will have a good initial impression.but after 2k kms engine will get rough

Thanks a lot for the advice.
Wll look up about Motul 5100. BTW 5100 20 W right?

And can you please confirm the service period for the street 220? The manual says 2nd service to be at 4500kms.
The workshop said it to be at around 2500-3000. Who is right?
                THanks in advance.

Motul 5100 is usually available in 15w50. Oil drain interval for this one should be max 3000-3500 kms.

For servicing go as per the KMs completed or time frame mentioned in the service book.

What about warranty ? Will it be void if we change to motul 5100 15w50 ?

No, unless they find out it's not their oil.
Btw,my bike is showing leakage of oil probably. I saw some blackish oil near the rubber gasket as shown in the pic (I cleaned up the oil before the pic was taken, however the leakage is from here.,)
Anyone any clue, why would this happen on a new bike with Motul 5100 SS oil?

I think fully synthetic will be good given your commute and that you are considering long distance travels as well. Also you get these additives that may help in addition to the oil.

I have changed my Honda Shine 2008 model engine oil from 10W30 Honda Mineral Oil to 10W40 Shell Semi-Syn AX7. After riding the vehicle for about 700KM, I can feel some heat being radiated to my legs from engine body after a ride of about 5-6 KM in town.

Is this normal ? Does the engine need some time to accustom to 10W40 SS ? Please advice.

                                Thanks.
