  • Agrip FS is around 620Rs but I think if engine is old means have done 20000km or above then its useless to use synthetic oil it will cause oil leak but don't forget motul semi synthetic it is better then Petronas FS and last descent amount of Km's it cost 375Rs in Delhi.

          • k maybe a stupid question

So I was riding my bike today and yesterday for a long time... and I noticed that it was getting a little warm... I mean the thing is I don't know how to tell if the bike is getting too hot or if its normal amount of heat as the pulsar UG3 does not have a temp gauge... I mean the bike was riding very smooth as I had just put motul 5100 two days ago( after being on castrol power for a long time... da*n) but I could feel the heat on my right leg... not veryyy hot but definitely warm... is that normal? How do I tell when the engine is overheating?

I paid 415 bucks for the yamalube w50.Just make sure that the mech has indeed re-bored the bore and didn't conn you by just replacing the rings. To make sure you have to check the bore yourself .That is measure the bore and piston.Since you may not be able to witness the rebuild ,you have to just trust him i guess.
If he just replaced the rings and conned you ,then the engine will in all likely hood will loose its compression within ,maybe as early as 5k kms.On the other hand if he has indeed done a re-bore and replaced the piston with an oversize, then it will last long and perform well.
The option of going for a bore kit replacement is a lottery .That is ,because perfect bore kits are called " FREAK KITS" and that is because of the reason that perfectly matching bore-kits are very rare to come by.So re-boring the block ,when done properly , most of the times will be better than the block when it was new.
The fact that nowadays bikes are coming to bore ,sometimes as early as 20k kms proves the point that there are very few good bore kits.If that is the case at the factory ,then imagine selecting a bore kit from OEM lot.
I have personally seen bikes which had bore kits replaced loosing compression within as early as 5k kms ,requiring re boring or they might not mind continuing with their bike drinking oil.
During the run in period you should use w50 grade mineral oil for your bike .After that you can switch over to fs depending on how oil tight your bike is.

Most of the times the bike's owner will be the best judge. As our bikes are like our girls .With some experience with their fickle mindedness we can make out the changes in their moods.Bikes are far more predictable!(thank god!).So yeah, i am sure you felt the engine heating up.It might be because you are revving it more than before?.

                • Yes exactly same in my case my bike is 21000km old and its started having all these disease all most all the company bore kits are not that strong enough the quality difference b/w OEM kits and aftermarket kits is 19/20.I have taken appointment with the mechanic and soon my bike is going to have transplant.

In my bike's case, i make it a point to be there when the engine is taken apart and i made sure i went with the mech to the lathe .I had asked around diff lathes to find out how they do the conversion job.So i knew the price and what they'd be doing and had a chat with the lathe guy when we gave the bore and the head for the work.By the way these lathe people know what they are doing and he (fortunately)had done many such conversions and even suggested some things after asking me about the carb i am using and about the state of the cam and rockers. The engine rebuild was done in my presence and i did measure the bore and the piston.Besides the mech is an trust worthy guy ,who used to work in a tvs showroom and was trained at hosur by tvs .Lets say he knows his job quite well .Any way we need luck in such things too more than anything.
Lets not even talk about the guys who work on the engines at the showrooms the least said the better!. They are mostly recruited without seeing ther qualification or asking about their knowledge and they are rewarded based on how many bikes they can service in a single day!

                    • hmmm

well the thing is... it was getting a little bit hotter than this when i had the wrong oil in it( power1). But at that time, the bike was nowhere near as smooth as it is now...

The only thing now is... its very smooth and its much faster at lower RPM's but it just feels a bit warm on my leg... not as hot as before but still warm emough to where my foot is on the break and I can feel a little heat from the engine...

I just changed the oil to motul 5100 a few days ago from power 1... so maybe this thing will fix itself now that the right oil is there... or is it a sign that something is messed up already.... I need to get the bike serviced anyways now (besides oil change) so will the bajaj service center guys be able to tell me if there is anything wrong when I tell them about this( generally I think these service guys are all dumb after the whole castrol bike zone telling me about power 1 being best for pulsar180) The bike is riding much better than before... but the only thing is... I had gotten the spark plugs changed a month back as they were gone and the bike was stalling a lot during the first 5-10 mins everytime I started it... and after that the bike felt very responsive to the throttle for a few days... but after that it again became sluggish to the throttle... and even now its a bit sluggish as compared to those first few days after the plugs were changed... I mean the bike will pull fine but it just take a second longer and i have to pull the throttle a bit more for it to respond... so im wondering if the power 1 oil might have messed up my new plugs too in that short period of time? any thoughts?

First things first. Its never a good idea to air your doubts with service personnel of the showroom(when the warranty period is over).Why?.Simply because, most of the times they will either ignore what ever you say and collect the basic service charge and do nothing.Or they go the other way and open up the engine without properly diagnosing and change something or every freaking thing in the engine! .
So for starters take out the plug and check its state. Then check the exhaust to see if its smoking. Then see if the clutch is slipping ,that is when riding ,check whether the acceleration is fine in relation to the throttle input.

                        • yeah

ya the exhaust is fine... it never smokes... clutch used to slip on the previous oil a few time... not a lot... but sometimes....but now its fine... no slipping at all... acceleration is fine i guess... its just that initially the pick up is slugish... so say i want to accelerate from 60 to 80 its fine no problem... but say if i want to over take a car in front of me quickly... for those quick maneuvers i need to pull the throttle a bit more... i don't think its the acceleration thats the problem but rather the throttle maybe? I don't know how to take out the spark plug... is it something easy i can do or requires a lot of tools and stuff.... if its easy can you guide me how to do it? Thanks for the help though

In your tool kit there will be a plug spanner ,a metal pipe kind of thing with a nut pattern at one end .Then pull the plug socket off the sp and using the sp spanner ,turning counter clock-wise take out the plug .
