I bought the Axor a1 (no longer vega axor) for 2.1k recently, the red special force graphics one and its amazing, grabs more attention than ls2 helmets and it is also dot certified. This one is imported from italy and assembled here.

I'm using sol for the last two years.it's simply perfect.only problem is visor is highly scratchable.snug fit, zero noise til 120-130kmph.GOOD CHOICE.

Am using a SOL Hornet. The fit is nice but I don't like the ventilation. Also at least I have experienced loud and shrill wind noise, esp at high speeds... I have been toying with the idea of HJC for some time now, primarily because I am not satisfied with the SOL. Also look at the visor the wrong way and it will get scratched...

A good helmet for about 2k? Comfort and safety are the only concerns - looks mean nothing to me. I have a 150cc, and have never in my life crossed 100km/h so i believe a 2k helmet should be enough. Am i wrong there?
Also a good place in Delhi to buy it... I have a big head so trying on before buying is a must.

There is a flaw right there mate, I usually don't spend time to explain this to people who keep asking helmet prices.
But since you mentioned why the rationale of 2k came up in your mind, and you seem to have an interest to learn more about it, i'm going to explain a few points.

See, the thing that saves your head is not the number of greens you spend for it. It is something of the line of
                              1)Shell Quality
                              2)Foam/Thermocol layer thickness and quality
                              3)Padding quality
                              4)Snug fitting of the lid
5)Probably the most important, Strapping the helmet lock properly and snugly.

If you buy a 13k worth helmet with poor quality for point 1,2,3,4 it ends up being of no use to you in the event of a crash.

Now the most interesting part, if you buy a helmet worth even more where points 1,2,3,4 are all ranking awesome. And you forgot to strap the helmet, you are as good as not wearing a helmet when you fall down and hit the road with your head.

And as far as speed goes, try banging you head on the wall (not too hard, for your own interest) it might pain, the speed there is probably less that 10kmph. Now translate this on the super hard roads at speed of lets say 70-80, if you cringed on that thought, my work here is done.

Hope this helps mate, and do not take offense to the way i have explained this, just want to explain things crystal clear.

                              Cheers

                                Hi Man,
Thanks for taking the time. Now while you're absolutely correct in all you have said, it hasn't quite helped. See, about 5. , I've always taken care since I first straddled my rusty old CT-100, and 4. I plan to check.
But I'm a newbie, who would have no Idea in hell about 1., 2., and 3. by looking. That's why I'm here. Asking experts that please tell me one you know that is good!
Why the budget? Because if I just say "tell me the best helmet there is", the answer would probably be worth more than my bike.
I understand completely that price does not equal quality. but 1. What actually equals quality, I have no clue about. I wouldn't know a good helmet from a bad one if it bit me. 2. For most products, there's generally a minimum amount that you have to spend to get something that is worth anything. In helmets that seemed to be around 2k (no. of options explodes around this price point.) I do acknowledge I may be wrong about that.
So there, my question is back - I do not know what makes a good helmet, please name one I can buy. I do not have a lot of money, so value for money is prime concern. 2k is the sweet spot, but extendable ofcourse. If there are no road-safe helmets below 3k, I'll go there. Looks are dispensable.
