    Riding Gears

MOD MESSAGE:Use this thread for any discussion related to riding gears minus helmets(We have a separate thread for this.

You can also post any picture of your riding gear.
For starters those who are looking to purchase their first gear in India, please do look at the following websites.

These websites deal with all sort of goods like helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, motorcycle accessories, you name it.

    www.planetdsg.com
    www.bachoomotors.com
    www.spartanprogear.com
    www.performanceracing.in
    www.cramster.in
    www.zeusgear.in
    www.viaterra.in
    www.rynox.com
    www.adventure18.com.
    www.solaceintl.in/
    http://www.store.royalenfield.com

Secondly folks who would like to purchase their gears elsewhere, apart from India (US of A or UK or elsewhere) please read this post before you post questions in the forum.

For starters, Revzilla (a US company that deals with motorcycle goods) will only process direct international orders if the total excluding taxes and shipping is over USD$300. Unless the helmet you're buying is something like a Shoei or Arai, you're probably going to have to use one of the landed-price international buying companies, like iShopInternational, ShopYourWorld, 20North, Cart2India etc. These companies will handle all the customs and shipping details, and will give you a final price for your purchase including shipping etc. Be aware that the final price will be just about double the cost of the items you ordered.

Do your research first on these companies, and make sure you are comfortable with the one you choose. For example, I bought some non-motorcycle stuff a while back, and iShopInternational couldn't do the purchase. ShopYourWorld ended up taking nearly 6 months to actually get my order, and the company I was buying from eventually refused to deal with them anymore, so I ended up only getting half of the items I wanted. 20North and Cart2India are supposed to be better, but I can't say for sure. Both places had incomplete websites last time I checked with them, and both are somewhat more expensive, though they both have better reputations for reliability than ShopYourWorld. Check around for customer reviews (especially ones posted somewhere other than the company's website, such as MouthShut; keep in mind though that you're going to see lots of negatives for anyone, because happy customers rarely say anything). Once you have the third-party buyer picked out, contact Revzilla and let them know what you're trying to do, and that you'll be using a third-party intermediary to handle the purchase. That way they'll be ready for the order. If you can get a name from someone at the buying company that you can give to Revzilla as a point of contact for your order, that will help.

If your order is expensive enough for Revzilla to process it directly, you'll have to contact the customs office for your state and get all the details for the paperwork and the import process. You may need to get some kind of affadavit that you're importing the items for personal use. Expect to end up paying more than double the cost of your items once you've paid for shipping and all the customs fees India charges. I also tried this route one time for some gloves, and it was an enormous hassle; at one point the gloves I ordered were sent back by customs because they weren't sure the shipping papers were correct, and they didn't tell me about it until I had gone to them to find out what was taking my order so long to arrive.

Hi guys, I need to get some riding gear shipped from the US..the site is denniskirk.com. The merchandise is costing twice, when the shipping is included. Has anyone ordered from this site?

Also, someone please tell me how much in percentage do I have to pay in customs for importing from the US. I find stuff quiet cheap there, thanks to the closeout discounts.

I often order from Dennis Kirk | Frontpage & New Enough Motorcycle Apparel sells motorcycle jackets, pants and suits, boots, gloves, helmets, etc :: New Enough, LTD
Yeah, shipping is always expensive unless you're ordering in bulk.
The duty charged is 14% of the value of the your purchase + shipping.
For instance, i bought an AGV - XR2 a few weeks back from denniskrik for 199 usd, i paid shipping worth 50 usd on that, and another 1700 inr for import duty.
The shipping takes about 10-15 days off including idle time spent at the import warehouse.

Are you sure about the rate of Customs Duty? Is it a fixed rate or varies with parts?
Any links to this would be great? I really wanna order some gear!

Yes, i'm quite certain about the duty percentage. Its 14% for the apparel and gear, and 30% odd for spare pats.

                      Timbuktu Air

This is my latest buy from USA. My friend brought it back to me. This is Hein Gericke Timbuktu Air jacket. It's a touring jacket, and so far I am very glad I bought it. Haven't got a chance to take it to streets yet, planning for a small weekend ride to open it up.

These are the features as per the manufacturer's website:

I am attaching the product photo, as well as my pics wearing the jacket. It is mesh on chesh, hands inners and back. Back protector is not much, so planning to upgrade it. I got it at a good price of 90$ shipped.

Those knee guards are again gift from abroad. I usually wear a 40 size shirt, and the jacket is medium, which fits good. Only in arms the armour is bit loose, I may put some velcro straps on the biceps to hold those in place.

Now planning for a new bike, present Caliber115 is doing great, but need a fast steed for weekend rides specially.

The stuff in closeout/saleout/salerack etc is the same one as regular, unless specified. They are usually clearing out stuff to make place for new one. If there is any defect or anything in the product, it is mentioned in the details.

They only have "Cramster" brand. Can someone comment as to its quality of these gaurds, I cant find any reviews.
Although, PlanetDSG have the Alpinestars Gloves and Knee/Elbow Gaurds.
