      • ^ Well I had plans of getting a jacket from the USA.
The Techenclave dealer, KMD, is not too enthusiastic about non-computer stuff. But a new dealer has come up : Fizzmall. this guy will get you ANYTHING from ANY site that ships to the USA.
So I asked him about an Alpinestars jacket. Assuming the jacket cost was 80$ or around 4K rupees (ebay Auction ), Fizzmall quoted 6800 total for shipping to my place.
He also mentioned the weight of the jacket at around 4 pounds.

I did not buy it as I did not know which size would fit me properly.

PS : Anyone here with an Alpinestars jacket?

EDIT : If many people order at once then the shipping cost goes down. Anyone thinking about the USA import route?

        • Guys, planning to get a Riding jacket and finding difficult in choosing one and my options are Cramster Pulse being no.1 and Dsg Spike. Pretty attached to Cramster Pulsr after seeing Jonak's one. Can someone point out the good's and bad's in both??

            • Note: Not related to the previous post..

Since I have been lucky enough to live in Japan for a while, I have had a little bit of experience with performance riding apparel. After a few expensive mistakes (read buy and then sell at half the price), I finally got my ideal riding gear combination right. I am a big fan of Dainese - they simply make the best performance riding gear apparel, though they are more expensive than brands like Alpinestars or Joe Rocket. Here is my take on riding apparel (street/touring only since I have zero experience in MX or track) by category:

Best leather riding jackets: Dainese, Ducati, Joe Rocket.
Best all weather riding jackets: BMW, Hein-gericke and a few from Astars since they have a good collection of fabric jackets.
              Best leather pants: Dainese
Best all weather pants: Astars, BMW, Heingericke
Best boots (street/touring): Sidi, Oxstar, Dainese
              Best gloves: Alpinestars, Dainese
Best helmets: Arai, Shoei, Shark, Nolan.

I have no experience with Spidi, so I did not include them here...

Here are a few pictures of my current riding gear. Since I don't ride in Japan anymore, I don't use them much. Only for touring on my RE, but I have the boots all wrong for that purpose! Anyway, the Ninja 250R should give plenty of occasions to wear these and go fast!

Dainese Jet-Pac leather jacket with removable elbow and shoulder CE approved armour. Leather and D-stone fabric (Dainese's version of Cordura) with detachable thermal lining - great for very cold weather and hot weather alike.

Dainese Firefly pants with removable knee armour - though taking and putting it back in takes some effort!

My boots - Sidi Vertigo Corsa, Alpinestar 'shorty' SPS gloves and Dainese back/spine protector (insertable inside jacket). My lid is the ARAI Astro-TR, the Japanese version of the US ARAI Quantum-2 model.

              • @bluevolt

The helmet and boots alone are worth killing for. But why have you got those 'shorty' gloves? Full gauntlet makes more sense with the rest of the gear.

You're right, but I use the helmet and gloves everyday(as against once in a blue moon for the rest), and the Astar shorties work like a charm! Easy on and easy off...this is my second one. The first one took some damage when I spilled my bike in the rain.
Maybe I will buy a dainese full gauntlet the next time I travel overseas...thanks!

Frankly speaking I did not find anything bad about the jacket. About good both me and Aryan da have discussed. Please check the features of the jacket from the site. And for Spike, buzz Praful.
BTW, I am starting a 1100km weekend ride in couple of hours with the jacket.
