  • Suitable touring boots

    Hi,

I am using Timberland boots which served me well during my 12 day tour of Rajasthan besides a few other shorter rides (Rishikesh, Bharatpur, day-rides). They offer good ankle protection, comfortable to walk short distances.

They cost me Rs.7200 in sale (MRP 9400). For Ladakh I am planning to buy boot covers for water protection.

    • I want to buy Riding boots and knee gaurds (bionics).
I am thinking of sourcing them with some one from USA or UK.
Can you guys suggest some brands or websites to look for?

About riding boots, I want them to comfortable for daily riding and providing a bit more than basic protection.

About knee gaurds, any good brand other than, alpine star, fox, axxo / thor ?

Your choice for cortech is correct.. keeping in mind the Indian weather condition.. I have been using Cortech for nearly 8 + months now and have done quite a long distance rides with them.. they are truly VFM..

Try buying them from ridersdiscount.com and they will ship it to you for flat 25$.. after which a custom duty of 1000+ might be charged to you depending on you luck... ..

If you need any more help.. you can send me a PM.

For boots you can use A* SMX 2 ... quite comfortable .. can be used daily..

I am presently using ICON Stryker knee guard which is bionic and provides a good protection.. have used it for 8 months now and find it VFM...

I have an extra set with me... do let me know if you need it.. Check the link below..

            • I had washed my Teknic 2012 - Chicane Glove last week.

To tell you about the entire procedure, just dip them in hot water and add some soap.
Now the twitch here is that let them dry on news paper which is black and white and does not have colors.

Iam not at all facing anytype of problems even the gloves being 100% genuine leather.

Also wash them by pouring soap powder inside the glove and let it be that way for sometime, the foul smell is immediately gone. I thought of taking this risk because the ones i use has been over a year and they have witnessed rains, winters and summers.. You all can imagine the beating they went through, and they are white in color. Also the goatskin kinda stinks when you use them for long term on a sunny day...

Now they are white bright as new and i do not see any leather tearing or loosing its features. Yes, they were a bit stiff the first day after washing but after repetitive use they have loosen out. And that foul smell is gone too!!!

              @All -

I think you can wash other gloves having the same leather properties also. Please check the contents or ingredients of the gloves as i have attached the link.
If they match, then yes you can go ahead with the above mentioned procedure. Also consider using hot water, works utterly brilliant.

+1 I do the same for my leather gloves, been pretty pissed with all the DIY stuff out there.

Here's what I do, is just dunk it in hot water, rinse it for a while and use Surf for the most part, give it a nice hand spin, rinse it like hell in luke warm water, until I am satisfied personally, hang it in clothespin/, and you're done!

I wouldn't recommend it for a leather jacket though.

                  Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                  The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                    • I have recently acquired the Spartan helios mesh jacket from spartan progear in chennai. I have been using this for daily commute in hot chennai weather.

Click on the link for a detailed review from Dinesh (bikerfas). http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/799793-post6770.html

It has lots of features which every biker would like on his jacket, even though dinesh has already mentioned most of them I would to like to add a couple of them and restate few of them:-
                      1. a water proof pocket for the mobile phone on the right
                      2. a microfiber pocket for the goggles
                      3. For people who like to listen to music while riding there is a port which helps You to insert the handsfree.
                      4. The zippers on the regular pockets opens upside down to make sure it doesn't open all by itself while riding at greater speeds due to wind factor.
                      5. Loops to hang the gloves and key.
                      6. 3M reflective piping which lits up even at the slightest flash of light.
                      7. CE approved guards.
                      8. The portion which comes in contact with the neck can be removed and washed separately when it gets dirty. Its also available as an accessory.

                      The areas of improvement:-
                      1. The velcro when not it place can come in contact with the mesh and can in turn damage them, so I think that if the soft portion of the velcro is on the strap, even if it comes in contact with other areas its not going to damage them.
                      2. The sharp ends of the spear symbol on the right shoulder is not stitched till the extreme end so it gets curled a bit.
                      3. The paint on the pull tab on the main zippers peels of with regular usage.

It has a great value for money.

                      • Hello all I have been here in xbhp for the past few months. To be honest I was not aware of any other thing than helmets before joining here . I am now planning to buy some gear this month. My basic budget is 10k ( upto 2k more can be extended ). Please recommend something suitable for me under this price tag. I live in kerala and it is either rainy season or hot humid season here not much winter time . Things needed :

                        1) Riding jacket ( DSG Triton red is my preference as of now any thing better in that price tag? )
                        2) Gloves
                        3) Knee guard.

Actually if all these can come below 10k I was actually thinking of putting that 2k in and buy me a helmet too. Or else I will save up and buy one after a few months .
Cheetahs are faster but the lion is still the KING

DSG Trotin is good. I am using it. You can also get RJays Swift around that price.

For gloves, you can go for any DSG glove. Good value for money.

And about knee guards, well you have options like AXO around 800/- which is the most popular. Of course these are the duplicates but many use them. even Fox non bionic set of guards will cost you around 600 to 700 bucks. these are also local made. if you really want to go for good quality original knee guards then you can get Knox Knee Guards for 3950/- which is the best set of knee guards i have seen till now. yes they seemed even better than alpinestar.

Good to know you are learning, we all are and still are.

Let me to the topic straight.
DSG Triton - 5999 thing it is not suited that much for hot weather, as it is not a mesh jacket. It's basically a good jacket if you're in for colder weather areas. If you're in for summer/mild winter go for MESH jacket, which has a rain liner, which can give you good rain protection and being a mesh, can give you good ventillation, air flow that is.

Gloves: DSG Revive Gloves comes in around 1990, it's leather and it offers good protection, though not waterproof, it's the best glove you can get for the money you pay.

Kneepads: You have lots of brands, and you have right from 500 to 5000 rupees and especially FOX range starts from 500 rupees. Go for Fox Kneepads, else AXO which comes in around 800 it is available in eBay from 500 to 650 rupees.

P.S. I am selling my three month old RJays Octane Mesh Jacket (XL). Interested parties lemme know

                            Cheers!

Bro, im using Triton, and trust me, its not for our humid weather conditions, im the kind that sweats a lot and its very tough to wear it in stop go traffic, in open roads its alright, and then triton is a little longer in all sizes, tends to be oversize that way.
I would suggest, Rjays Swift,or DSG Nero.

For gloves, Cramster TRG2, Dsg Vector, Revive are good options. DO check it out.

Knee guard , fox knee guards are ok, but they are just on etime use kinda things, once you fall in them, then it must be changed, even for a minor fall.
