Now I have a new confusion.
How to find the right fit or size?
Check the prominent size which you wear. Some people like me fall in two sizes, where they both fit me perfectly. So if you use between S and M and M fits you most of the time. Go for M in the jacket and vice versa.

But all that can fool you at times when it comes to jacket, as they come with liners and stuff. So better go to a store and try them in person, else you can always go by the idea I mentioned above. At least it's the way most folks consider when they intend to buy a jacket.

    Cheers!

    • Hi guys,
I need your advice on Alpinestars S-MX 5 boots.
I have been planning on buying the riding shoes and have already read/ watched lots of reviews of different brands of shoes.
Also, got an opportunity to check out AXO Primal 2 shoes at Planet DSG but was not satisfied with the protection it offered at heels. It was literally a cloth and I really doubt the impact protection it would offer.
Now the SMX 5 shoes are also available.
Will it provide good heel & ankle protection in an event of crash etc (though they claim so)?
      Is it a good buy @ Rs 11,100 ?
Any comments from those who have first hand experience with these shoes?
How are they as compared to SIDI? (which is available at Rs 15,000 Onwards) Same functionality at higher price or do they offer anything extra?

When it comes to boots, SIDI rules IMO but yeah these are pretty good bang for the buck. Very nice build and finish for the money but you might want to check out the vented version which might be more comfortable than the non vented version. I know someone who keeps taking off his boots every time we take a butt break because they're so hot.

The nearest SIDI boots available/ comparable are SIDI Cobra = Rs 15,000 vs SMX 5 = 11,100.
AFAIK, the vented version is not yet available at DSG. I am more interested in waterproof boots but they again are not available!

Why don't you try sourcing it from overseas?

Plus I've used the Primato II. Apart from they looking uber cool, the boot offers adequate protection. Don't expect race spec protection from these boots, but you can well expect 60% of what those high spec boots offer IMO. When I bought them, they were 7599 something, now they've hiked the price.

            Cheers!

Beware of "Waterproof" boots. Most manufacturers normally make the waterproof lining out of two different types of waterproof lining materials. The cheaper ones which are more common are a non-breathable layer which will make your feet stew in our humid Indian climate - trust me on this - have been there done that. Used to change out soaking pairs of socks in mid-ride.

The waterproof membrane that you can use in India comfortably is the magical GoreTex breathable membrane. However, be warned genuine GoreTex is frightfully expensive but worth every penny IMO. I have a pair of SIDI Adventure GoreTex boots that cost a full USD$100 MORE than the equivalent Adventure Rain Boots which look identical except for the inner waterproof membrane. These boots are truly waterproof and supremely comfortable and seem indestructible but meant more for off road and touring. IMO if you do not ride too much in rain, you can make do with much simpler and cheaper boots like Joe Rockets SuperStreets which I have too for Street/city use. The AStars SMX5 and Sidi Cobras are better value though.

              • Hi all,

I'm considering buying a jacket for the winter and would like it to have water resistance as well, some sort of vents wouldn't hurt, too. What are the different options I can get for around Rs. 10,000 and which is the best brand you would suggest. Brand value doesn't hold importance for me as long as the product quality is good. I'm considering DSG Triton for now since it has removable warm lining and impact protectors but it's still an amateur decision. Please educate me about the different products and the benefits at this range.

                Thanks.

                • Triton is a good choice, perfect for winter and rainy condition, i had one, has about 4 vents too, two on the front and two at the back(its zips which can be opened for ventilation)at 6k its pretty good jacket, then there is Rjays Octane which comes at near 8k i think.
Other than that there are mesh jackets which comes with rain and winter liners which would work good , but might not be as effective as the textile jackets, for example Cramster breezer, its god two liners with it at a price of 5.5k its also a VFM product but how much of rain protection does those liners provide is a different thing.

Not aware of any other brands right now, other members might be able to help in that respect.

                  Cheers mate

                    Hi Guys

I am planning to get basic ride gear for my GF as we are planning to go for a inter state ride coming Friday. So, just planning to get a Helmet and a comfy jacket for her.
Budget is a little constraint here. For jacket & helmet around 3K each. At max i can strech my budget to around 7K for both.

                    Please provide your suggestions.

                      Thanks for the reply.
What is the protection level offered by these 2 jackets? I was told that complete textile jackets offer better protection than mesh jackets so I am currently looking for them. Correct me if I'm wrong. Since you mentioned it, I checked the other Rjays offerings and liked the Octane and Jetstream II.I noticed that Octane has CE approved protectors rather than foam in Jetstream and that Octane is more usable in summers too, so is Ocatne better than Jetstream II?

I also had a look at the 3 Cramster offerings and liked Eclipse but will the leather bits resist rain? I found very few reviews of the K2K 2.0 jacket, how is it compared to Eclipse and Breezer?

Please note that I will be using this in summer even though I am buying it in the winter.
Also, is there any jacket that offers back+chest+elbow protection at the Rs. 10k price range.

                      Sorry for being Mr. Doubtfire.

                      • Well, the protection from Triton is better than cramster, the armour is pretty much nice , hard and flexible, havent crash tested though.
Triton in summers can be a little bother at stop and go traffic, should do fine in motion with the 4 zippers opened for ventilation. The breezer is a mesh jacket so crazy amount of air flow will be there.
yes, textile is better than mesh in Abartion protection, in textile itll take most of the abuse without harming the skin , so no road rashes, cant comment on how good mesh is, some one else might be able to contribute on that.

Most jackets have only foam protection for chest and back, a* too, they have upgradable armour for chest and back, but then it wont fit in the 10k budget, other jackets are joe rocket, but don't know if it'll fit your budget.

There are many nice jackets, branded but its also costly nonetheless.

If you want an all round the year useage jacket i would suggest Breezer , it has a rain liner and winter liner for rain and winter seasons, and for summer you can remove all the liners and use, total VFM, retails at 5500.

Forgot about spartan Helios, its a Mesh jacket, seems to have pretty good reviews too, and they also have a winter based jacket i think, not sure. Search in google, youll find it . Helios also retails at 5500, but wont have winter liner i think, rain liner will be there.

Please do more research and arrive at a decesion, jacket selection should be done very carefully.

Thanks Sunny! That was actually I was looking for. Helmets look great and within budget range. As for the jacket, it's little out of range but I'll try to make up for it as it looks nice but if not can I have some more pointers for the same.

If you want more info on the Spartan products, write in to the helpdesk - [email protected] . The Support Team there is pretty efficient.

You could also check out Cramster as I think they have a ladies jacket in the same price range. No idea about the features though. You can get their contact details from their site.
