Riding Gear : AXO Primato Boots

specifications: Black, Size 44 (European Sizing) OR Size 10 (for us folks)

so today it arrived man oh man
my roomie woke me up from my noon time nap saying that i had a big package waiting at the door.

I woke up, dazed, thinking this is probably a dream ..
went to the door and got the package shipped from DSG.. freak it was heavy

tore the outer packing. this is what was inside it


as my roomies and i were " " over these huge boots (it surpassed my expectation) and i was holding these boots in my hands and were about to kiss em even

inspected the boots visually for any damage or missing component. opened the velcro flap of the boot. put my foot in.

PERFECT FIT. if you have a size 10 feet but not even a bit more than 10. (that is size 10 formal shoes SHOULD not be tight for you) , then AXO Primato Size 10 then would fit you perfectly.

the boots are marvelous for the amount of comfort they provide. the feet felt happy in such a snug and comfy interior of a supposedly tough and macho looking boots.


BOOT DETAILS.

here are some stuff id show in form of a labelled image. the areas have been highlighted as well.


now some further info

the inner lining of the boot is some "spongy mesh" kind of material. its not loose, but its not hard either. your feet can breathe and not break a sweat. makes the fit snug and warm.

the Velcro flap which is primarily the "strength" of the boots which clamp em to your feet is good. you have to work in order to open the Velcro flap.

then to put your foot in, you have to unzip the zipper which goes down to the base of the boot's sidewall. the zipper is STRONG and can handle abuse.

the hard patch for the toe gear shift are present on both the boots and at the right spot (IMO)


BOOT TESTING
wore the shoes , went for a 30 km test ride towards the north on NH4 from tumkur.
it was night, around 9pm, the winds were chilly. I had my full riding gear on (Helmet, Gloves,Riding Jacket, Riding Pants, Kneeguards, Boots)

the happiest body parts were the feet and the head. rest werent that happy

the boots are weatherproof, that i can assure you after completing 30kms @ 80-100 kmph continuously in chilly winds. your feet wont feel which weather condition prevails outside

ONe has to get accustomed to the walking style you have to follow with these boots. you can't move your ankle even a BIT. your foot is fixed at 90deg angle to the leg. You feel as if you're having a wooden stump instead of a leg. makes you walk funny

the boots are strong, the protector cups are strong and can absorb the impact energy. you feel safe. really safe

Conclusion

definitely recommended.

they are expensive at nearly 10k but you get the bang for the buck. build quality is superb and the finish can be seen to be perfect. even the dots in the sole of the boots are uniformly composed. the velcro used is the strongest i have come across till now.

Nice review man! for now I dont need the long shoes as I commute a lot (150kms) but dont really tour... with those boots on! I would end up scaring people at home/office/college...

Oh! and a full geared pic please

@Xenologic: Nice! Seems good for touring purposes..But, for daily use (especially office use), it would seem a little illogical. But then again, I guess, we can carry the formal boots and change when in office..

10k? DEFINITELY out of my budget!

The Primato's are good...a few notches up on comfort actually. Incidentally these are the ones (in red &white) that we've chosen for the India ride.

Wouldn't agree on the ankle-flexion part though. Without ankle movement, you wouldn't be able to shift gears or use the rear brake. The kind of fine muscle control needed for these actions need the 'fine' control provided by the ankle, the leg muscles are too large for it.

Nevertheless, the shoe does give this impression becasue the ankle is gripped tight...this is the case with ALL riding boots. Walking feels funny because you need a lot more ankle movement to walk than just to operate a short-throw gear shifter and rear brakes. And the riding posture on a sportsbike (say the R1, 'Blade etc etc) already requires considerable ankle flex just to keep those feet on the rearsets.

You get the drift I guess....

uhh my helmet is a daijya silver matt tiger , set me 5.4 k (including the $ for the tinted black visor) the helmet is perfectly snug with my head. and the weight isnt an issue for me

i couldnt go for a better helmet because

-because i didnt not get an original AGV (not the MPA ones) fitting my head. the ones at orion were good but sizing didnt match at all. were whitin budget of 7-8k.

and KBC's were out of my budget at that time and i had no idea where to get one from. maybe ill be able to have one by end of next year

i really needed a helmet urgently because the one previously was really a stupid buy on my part (was loose, used to sway in heavy winds )

oh yes people gave me weird stares in the city as if i was some .... terminator man or something deadly yes da 10k is expensive for me too. I didnt buy a new Graphics card (which the money was originally intended for) , i went for these boots.

but they are certainly worth it. every rupee

wow , the re-review of the boots is even better than what i wrote about when will you ever cease to amaze me saaaar

well you are 100% right about the ankle flex part, its stiff now but its getting more flexible with use. the leather used is really superior. and yes i did have problems shifting gears since mine is a toe shifter type. as the boots loosen up at the ankle it'd be good.

Weatherproof = smelly feet if you ride in the heat

WET smelly feet are even worse trust me (it rains quite often in south) water in your boots do not prevent them from stinking either and i dont sweat too much since i need ahmedabad ki garmi to really make me sweat. even the hottest days in tumkur are cool enough for me.

smelly DSG nero jacket is more of an issue to me

sirjee, i tried them .. not that good for 4.6 k you're paying. ill quote burnrubbernotursoul's post about the cramsters as well

^^^^ 42 is size 8, 43=9 and 44=10. you made a very wise decision. i bought the cramster and now i feel its not worth the money you are paying. instead put somemore money and buy the Axo Primato. or you can also go for alpinestar SMX2 riding boots, or the alpinestar web gore-tex boots which are 100% waterproof. best of luck
