I happen to come across this wonderful poem by T.F.Bhagwagar hailing from Pune in the December 2009 issue of Bike India.
COST OF SAFETY GEAR
For safe and secure biking
There really is no doubt
A good helmet is something
You just can't do without
A set of expensive leathers
Is not for everyone
And will make you sweat rivers
In the heat of the blazing Sun
A well-lined padded jacket
Is reasonably good protection
Makes you look snazzy and cool
Part of the happening action
A pair of good fitting gloves
Will save you from road-rash
And keep your hands and fingers safe
In the event of a crash
Denim jeans are surely a must
To shield you from wind and weather
And sturdy boots with tough thick soles
Hold the ensemble together
With all these gear, I hear you ask
What more do I need?
I'll go and wring the throttle hard
Cruise happily at high speed
Ah! But kindly pause and think
You do need something more
Like respect for other road users
And self-discipline for sure
Think it over and you will know
Your instincts are never wrong
Listen to warnings from your brain
And you will ride safe and long
So isn't it crystal clear now
I'm suer you'll all agree?
The most safety gear is
Your brain, God given, for free.
