  • I'm hoping for someone here to help me out with a new comp i'm planning on purchasing, this is the specs of my rig as of now, check it out and tell me where i can tweak

    Model Details
    Processors
    Core2Duo E7500/2.93 GHz 1066MHz,3MB,LGA

    RAM
    DDR-2 800 Transcend&Kingston 4GB

    GPU
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT/GTX 512Mb, GDDR3

    Monitor
    ACER 20" Wide

I'm confused with the GPU, should i go for the 9800GT or the 9800GTX? or any of the other overclocked versions by Palit or Asus? or should i junk Nvidia and go for Ati? I can stretch the Gpu budget by 7K at the maximum

The criteria being the graphic heavy games like Crysis should play atleast at a minimum of 24~30fps with all the graphics turned up at good~best settings

    • @Diablo: Before I got my current graphics card, I used to run an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX (512MB), and it ran EVERY game that I threw at it with tremendous ease. I have actually played both Crysis and Crysis: Warhead on it, with all settings turned to the maximum and a resolution of 1024x768 and it did not stutter.

So, I believe you should be good to go with the GTX. I do not have much idea about the GT though as I did not use it. By the way, what is the current price of the NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX in the market? I bought mine for about Rs.14,000/-, if I remember correctly. However, I did sell it off for Rs.8,500/- or thereabouts before getting the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260.

      • Great 101 Aryan (as always) but which one was it? Palit, Asus (forgot the other two)? but if it (the GTX) comes under the 7k slot i'll buy it, also one more query the new DiRT-2 that is to come out is a DirectX-11 game but afaik there are no GPU's currently with DX11 only DX10.1 max, so how does it run if i use it on my comp?

        • @Diablo: My 9800GTX was the XFX one. As for the DX11 games, it would run JUST fine on an DX10 machine, since you yourself know there aren't any GPUs which are DX11 compatible, still.

          • Thank You Aryan, I've been tearing my head apart with the options with Nvidia for past couple of weeks, i mean come on man how many variants can one GPU have, I mean there's GT/GTX/GTX+/GTX+OC/GTX+OC2/GX2/GX2+..........................................and th list is seemingly endless. I hope i don't end up like the guy in my profile picture by the time by the time i get the rig

            • I have a 9800 GTX 1 GB, Palit I think. It ran (and runs) all games in high or very high graphics settings without missing a beat. I bought it for 10k at the beginning of this year. CoD4 and Crysis:Warhead were most memorable though.. can play them again and again, it looks so good.

What games are you guys waiting for? Me - Diablo 3. Who isnt!

              • Might sound lame but NFS Shift and Codies DiRT-2, and most importantly and the most hottest game to come yes yes it's the Batman:Arkhan Asylum

                  • DIABLO saar

I guess the demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum is already out!

                    Aryan da

I just can't wait... I know its gonna be awesome!!!

for those who haven't the faintest idea about Diablo 3 (which probably means you havent played Diablo 1 or 2 ), check this cinematic trailer out.

btw, has any one played a game from the Metal Gear Solid series? I fell in love with the first game, didn't have a chance to play the rest as they are made for the PS2 as default platform. Solid snake ftw! MGS 4 is touted to be one of the best games EVER (for console only, as of now ).. I hope it makes it to the PC soon.

If you would be willing to wait for about 1 month more, the ATI 58XX series is going to launch. Now these cards are priced at $300, $400 and $450. The $400 part runs Crysis maxed at 1920x1200 at ~40 FPS.

Now, you may think that the new cards are pricey. So don't buy the 58XX series. The ATI 48XX series will fall in price. The 4890 is currently ~14K, and will fall in price. A 4890 will completely wipe out a 9800 GTX+ in any game, and will be sufficient for the newer games at your 20' resolution.

@Aryan : The GTX 260 stock clocked is around 10-11K now. 14K will get you a GTX 275, which is on par with an HD 4890.
                      The 9800 GTX would be ~ 7-8 K.

Yeah i knew that, which is the reason for my anticipation of the game

Here are the parts with the price (for relative comparison as the price is exclusive to Chennai where i'm located)

                              or
                              Phenom X4 X4 - 955 BE 3.2GHz, 8M, AM3 13100

                              RAM
                              2 GB Trancend/Kingston x3 6Gb 1600 x3

                              SMPS&Cabinet
                              Zebronics High - 10 Models w/USB, Audio & Fan 1800~2500

                              Motherboards
                              (For Intel)
                              INTEL P43 P5QL-E 16x, 8 Ch. S, L, F 6950
                              or
                              INTEL P43 P5QL-PRO 16x, 8 Ch. S, L 6550

                              (For AMD)
                              AMD780G M3A-H/HDMI 16x,V,8 ch S, L 6800
                              GF 8300 M4N78-PRO 16x,V,8 ch S, L, F 6225

I'm not so sure about these AMD chipsets, but they seem to be in the same category as the Intels but you might need to check into it just to be sure

                              HDD's
                              Seagate 500 GB 16MB 2550
                              Seagate 1 TB 32MB 4175

                              Peripherals
Logitech Mouse - Optical PS2 / White or Black 360
                              Logitech KB - 104 300
                              Samsung 22" P2250 Lavender Series 10950
                              or
Samsung 23" P2350 Lavender Series 11950 (Supposed to be HD, but do check out)

And then there's the GPU, which is kind of too hard to choose, and is better if you have your preferences in mind before going for one, because each one has it's edge over others in each type of game, this list touches somewhere near the 45K mark excluding the GPU, a really good one 1gb one might set you back by another 15~20K, which brings the total to about 60k as you wanted, also you might want to go for the best cooling system that the market has to currently offer, because from what i could see your rig is capable of catching fire at the least provocation ;-)
