NFS SHIFT REVIEW :-
PROLOGUE:-had my first lecture..got to know that the second was off.the day before i had phoned my dealer whether NFS shift and RESIDENT EVIL 5 had arrived...he said ki anevala hai.
today i took a chance.i decided that if both have not arrived, ill take batman.went to the shop.it had just opened.asked whether the new have arrived??he said,RESIDENT EVIL aa gaya hai..NFS thodi deir me aayega.so i had time.we had a chat on how things work, who is good who is bad, risks associated, how they fool us etc...in between he got a call saying that NFS will take some more time.1/2hr.so i had to do TP for 1/2hr.after 1/2hr i came and he said ki 10mins its coming.and it came..all packed..it was inside bubble wrap to avoid damage..
..so he got the SET in front of me and i was the FIRST one in the shop to RECEIVE the copy..yee...GOLDEN COPY
..installed it.everything went fine.started it.
REVIEW :
the last simulation in NFS i remember was of PORSCHE unleashed.before and after that NFS was mostly ARCADE.underground was a hit since it put forward the "customization" theme.and that time the combo of i think FAST AND FURIOUS made people buy NFS UG2.most wanted was a runaway hit due to the awesome storyline and police chase sequences.pro street and undercover didnt do good.undercover and i think before that was with EA BLACK BOX studios based in vancouver canada.
when CODEMASTERS launched DIRT it was a REVOLUTION in driving.it DEFINED realism.and for the first time DAMAGE was not visual but REAL.CODEMASTERS further tweaked the DIRT engine and gave us GRID,which by far still is one of THE RACING GAMES that you do not get bored to play with.i think suddenly EA spotted that people are liking realism instead of arcadism.so this time they got in touch with SLIGHTLY MAD STUDIOS of LONDON who are famous for their GTR series.GTR has always spelt REALISM.so if you are expecting that NFS is arcadism well YOU ARE WRONG!
NFS SHIFT is all about realism.the cars..the tracks..the gameplay...its all DAMN REAL.
the cars are made superb.the visuals are refreshing.if GRID had its signature GOLD lighting system,NFS i think has its own signature BLUE lighting.you will come to know when you play it.
the sound system is also too good.a thumbs up in that segment.added bonus is that you have option to turn off music during races.so in short pure dedication to car engine noise and tire screeching..nice.just put your speakers on high volume and enjoy the sounds.
speaking of the graphics, the physics engine also is impressive.unlike when you are going 150 you are feeling that you are going 150.and when a turn comes you have to slow down.you dont and BOOM..and unlike GRID..there is no REWIND feature.so its a TOTAL RESTART.
for starters you are given a BMW and you have to do a LAP WITHOUT ANY ASSISTS.once you complete that lap the game analyzes what assists you need and what you dont.ofcourse this all can be selected manually but this is a sweet feature.REALISM starts from here.
the best part like GRID is the DRIVERS VIEW.this game just like GRID should not be played THIRD PERSON.this should be played from the cockpit view.once you start playing from this view you will never go for third camera option.except for DRIFTS cockpit is the best method to play.
the cars are beautifully detailed externally and internally.the lighting system also is splendid.
another sweet feature is the profile points.you get points basically for anything..overtaking dashing speeding..you name it you get points.that you can use for customization and stuff.so they have given freedom to customize.not like UG2 ofcourse but vinyls and stuff.our theme here is not paint and stuff but mainly REAL RACING.
damage also plays well.the crash camera system is also fun.when you are gonna crash everything is blurred for seconds as if you are recovering from the shock..camera techniques used is awesome.
CLOSING COMMENTS:
overall EA has struck again with this title.NFS shift is a lovely game.there are many things that you will enjoy.be sure to get it and atleast try it out.
RATING:
****1/2
hope you enjoyed my review.

there are physics.right from how you drive to how you crash.also you have option of only visual damage to full damage.Originally posted by EL LOCO DIABLO View PostDamage physics, is it as good as Grid (might not be) but still, stuff does get mangled when you hit them right?
everybody is now gonna compare this with GRID.some say they stole GRID and made this.
whatever..i m liking this.
when you hear the narrator speaking,he is putting you into the game.not lame female voice not radio.but someone who is depending on you..and it sounds awesome.
whoever that person is..MAN YOU ROCK!

Those two words are sweet music to me, nothing puts driver involvement like the fear of wrecking your car during the race, i loved both dirt and grid for this i would love this game tooOriginally posted by anvancy View Postthere are physics.right from how you drive to how you crash.also you have option of only visual damage to full damage.

Here are the final specs of my computer, going to be buying and building it tomorrow, let me know if it's any good to look at
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz/1333FSB/4Mb L2
RAM: Kingston DDR2@800Mhz (Is that right?) 2x2Gb
GPU: Palit HD4850 1024Mb/DDR3
HDD: Seagate 7200.12/500Gb SATA
Chipset: MSI P43 Neo-F
Screen: Acer P207H 20" Full HD (As per Acer website claims)
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme power 600W
I had to switch from nVidia to ATi as no one here stocks anything more than the 9800GT, also Ati seems to excel in filters and anti-aliasing over the 9800GT/9800GTX marginally.I'm too intelligent to the unintended, and too dumb for the obvious.

I'd say look over your CPU choice once again. The Q8400 is a Q9400 with 2MB less cache. If you can up the budget by 3K, take the Q9550. Now that IS a good processor.Originally posted by EL LOCO DIABLO View PostHere are the final specs of my computer, going to be buying and building it tomorrow, let me know if it's any good to look at

RAM is fine. Board is fine if you don't OC.
CM Extreme Power series somehow don't have a good reputation. Consider the CM Real Power series or go in for a Corsair/Seasonic 450 or 550W.
Lastly, the GPU. Can you hold the GPU purchase for another month or so? AMD will launch the 58XX series and simultaneously effect a price drop on the 48XX series. You will be able to get a 4890/4870 for somewhere around $100 - $140 (current price range of 4850 in India).
EDIT : A 4890 will wipe out a 9800GT/GTX/+/-/whatever in any game or application. But then, so will a 4850
