you will loose out on peak acceleration and top speeds but the bike would run with 91 octane petrol. theoretically there is a chance of preignition on a hot engine. But then Xtra Premium is working good on a Hayabusa when the monster is not ripped.

I am not sure how well they work but many people use additives called octane boosters that can be added to regular petrol. If you want better info about this stuff pls ask in SBK section.

            Hope this info helps.

            • Octane boosters have been found to be bogus.

If you run low octane gas in an engine ment for higher octane, damage will most likely result unless there is an ECU which compensates for this. But then, of course, the engine wont be running at peak efficiency. This is true for cars... don't know about bikes. I doubt they have such a system. Maybe the FI bikes may have it.... but don't know for sure.

Some people mix toulene, etc., to make their own high octane gasolene.

Well, Bike India did run the Red-Black Test R1 on 91 octane fuel, while The Sticker on it recommends 95 octane+ only ...

All they said was that a lot of power is being robbed. No engine knocking found?!

What's responsible for acceptance of low quality fuel --> Is ECU and Fuel Map, the same thing?

I think one example can be KTM Duke 690 which has 3 fuel maps, one specially for 91 octane type fuels...

                • help me!!!...what should i fill my bike ??!!!!

yeah i dont mind a loot of power being robbed coz it already has 172 bhp n with RAM air assist i should get 180....so even if i loose 20 bhp i still has over 150 bhp with me!!!! what the hell am i goin to do with the top speed!! i am not running it in the autobahns but regular highways.....so which do u suggest on the 91's...as far as i have heard Xtrs premium is the only 'real' 91 octane fuel available?? how is reliance fuels??are they good???so as far as you guys are saying i will loose only a few horses and the top speed r8??so i can be rest assured that there wont be long term damage to the engine r8?? so will i be able to load a 91 octane type fuel map to the ECU if i get one???

I don't know what they might be filling, but as I said upper end cars can be expected to have ECUs that compensate for lower octane fuel... so it wont really damage the engine. But the engine will not be running at its optimum. So its definitely not advisable... but when there is no choice, you can do it.

Your bike may not have such a system... if it dosen't, you are looking at potentially serious engine problems.

Reliance fuels are supposed to be good.

AFAIK, all petrol is supposed to be 91 here. It may not be so in your city. You can find out from the oil companies.
