    • Adulterated petrol

Hi everybody, Recently when i reached my mechanics place for routine service and parked my bike he just got up and opened my petrol tank, and asked : Which petrol pump do you fill petrol from?
I replied that there is no specific pump that i go to.
He smiled and said there's something mixed in your petrol he took out some petrol and asked me to smell it - i realized it was smelling different (something like kerosene or some kind of spirit (thinner)mixed to it) . There were many garages and automobile repair shops nearby and all of them gathered and started to examine the fuel quality and all of them had the same opinion as i stood there awestruck.
My mechanic then told me that this is no new case and i should henceforth be careful with choosing petrol pumps.

Does anyone know where in delhi you get good fuel and which petrol pumps can be trusted?

Mods: If this topic does not fit in here, please do the needful.

        • ^^ Sorry to hear that .......Unfortunately, I still feel there's no thumb rule in choosing 'correct petrol station'. I think no petrol station resort to selling adulterated fuel all the time, they may do it randomly one tanker in 10 or some thing like that. The big money involved in this racket will pull all kinds of people and they can get away with quick big bucks. Since the 'policing' authority is again 'govt. babus', who will allow anything for few bucks. Till date just one strict officer died opposing the mafia (Mr.Manjunath), why are other officers not targeted, b'cos they don't want to oppose and face death. Sad but true.

Very rightly said mate.. the situation is worsening with each passing day. Our poor steeds have to suffer because of some corrupt unethical unscrupulous elements drowned in greed./ My salute to respected Mr. Manjunath for his brave initiative.

            • Petrol prices increased by Rs.4/- and diesel by Rs.2 from midnight tonight! Damn! News quoted below.

Source: Hindustan Times/ Times of India/ CNN-IBN/ others.

Petrol to cost Rs. 4 more, diesel dearer by Rs 2 after midnight

Making a departure from the past precedence, the government on Wednesday bypassed the Cabinet to raise petrol prices by Rs 4 per litre and diesel rates by Rs 2 a litre with effect from midnight tonight.

"The hike was necessitated because of rising international crude oil prices which have doubled t $70 a barrel since December," Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told reporters in New Delhi. Deora only consulted party leadership and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to decide on the hike. Usually, the fuel price revisions are referred to the Cabinet.

Parliament's Budget session is to begin on Thursday and clearly the government wanted to take a decision before that. The weekly Cabinet meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.

Deora said the government will not raise the domestic LPG and kerosene prices though the public sector oil companies are losing Rs 92.96 per cylinder and Rs 15.26 a litre respectively.

After the increase, petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 44.62 a litre and diesel Rs 32.86 a litre.

Petroleum Secretary R S Pandey said this was an "ad-hoc" increase in fuel prices aimed at limiting the Rs 170 crore per day loss Indian Oil, Bhrat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum incurred on sale of petrol, diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene.

The "ad-hoc" nature of the price increase suggested that there would be no deregulation of auto fuel prices.

              • Govt hikes petrol prices by Rs 4; diesel up Rs 2

NEW DELHI: Days before the Budget, the government on Wednesday hiked petrol and diesel prices by Rs four and Rs 2 per litre, respectively, with
                effect from midnight tonight.

It, however, decided against decontrol of petrol and diesel prices, while leaving LPG and kerosene prices unchanged.

Provisions would be made in the budget, to be presented on July 6, to cover the loss on account of LPG and kerosene, Petroleum minister Murli Deora said.

The decision to increase the price was taken after Deora met prime minister Manmohan Singh.

Precisely. I have a hunch this is just the 'start'. After a few days we will be seeing a "further Rs.2/- increase" or something of that sort!

Yup, what you state is true. But, I am sure when and IF the global crude prices come down, our Govt. will NOT be cutting down the fuel prices as sharply as they possibly could.

                          Anyways.

                          • Has it went $37 to $70 in a day? No. Then why 42 to 46 in a day? The problem is the steep hikes that government does. If you gradually increase price it won't pinch. I am sure you know how the gas rates fluctuate in US. Why can't we have a similar model in India?

People expect to a litre with a 50 rupess note and get back around 10 rupees. Those 10 rupees are a part of their daily expense for the common man. It's definitely unpleasant to watch this figure down to 4 rupees.
