        • Good news for all shell lovers

Today i was going on my way to a nearby RTO & the fuel in my bike came to reserve. I thought of filling it & then i found a nearby shell fuel bunk but i didnt wanted to purchase any petrol from it due to the high price. Then suddenly i had saw a banner on the bunk on which it was written "now petrol at 58.95". I was like . Then i had enquired about it in the bunk & they had told me that they had reduced the price of the petrol. It is still costly than the petrol at other outlets of IOCL & BPCL etc. But still 1 rupees is a negligible amount for me due to the respect the shell guys provide & the quality fuel they provide. Also they dont do any tampering or any aduteration with the petrol.

I know that i might be the last person to come to know about the price reduction but still i am reporting it here.

This has been going on for some time..If you google you will find a lot of info starting from pro ones to DIY kits to books... Some claims are rather atrocious ,as much as 100% improvement in mileage with this device. It will draw anywhere from 10 to 30 amps on 12 V FROM THE BATTERY.This means that the Alternator has to charge to this extent..which means it will load the engine for the charging power...So power gained is used for Power generation .There is a site called water4gas.com. Only this particular product seem to be able to stand up to the test. But as usual there are for and against arguments and no clear cut Test results available, from a trust worthy agency.

Racing Throttle Response: FUEL ADDITIVE FOR RTR 160, 180, 160fi.....( advocated by TVS motors for better performance)

IFTEX Clean System G is a Generation V gasoline fuel additive, with outstanding clean-up and keep-clean properties, most convenient to use by adding to the fuel tank in the recommended proportion and designed to keep the fuel system free of performance inhibiting deposits.

                  Applications :

Recommended for all modern petrol engines operating under high driving stress both in city traffic and on highways at high speeds.
Recommended for cars both with fuel injectors and with carburetors.
Also recommended as a preventive maintenance product to be used regularly for keeping the fuel system and engine in top working condition.

                  Performance Tested In :

BMW Intake Valve Deposit Control Test
Ford Intake Valve & Combustion Chamber Deposit Control Test
Chrysler Port Fuel Injector Cleanliness Test
                  Honda Generator Test
GM Intake Valve, Combustion Chamber & ORI Test

                  Benefits :

Cleans Fuel Injectors and carburetors of dirt, gum and varnish deposits without taking them apart.
Cleans intake manifolds and intake valves and restores proper compression.
Eliminates rough idling, hesitation, stalling, hard starting, lean surging and poor throttle response caused by deposits in the fuel system.
Restores engine performance and lost engine power.
Increases fuel efficiency by keeping the fuel system, including the combustion chambers clean.

                  Recommended Dosage :

1 ml per litre of Petrol.

                  Directions :

Remove cap. Squeeze lightly till dispenser fills to 10 ml mark. Add before filling up the tank. Use at a rate of 1ml/ltr of petrol. For best results regular use is recommended.

For petrol, there are 2 ratings, one is the AKI (Anti-Knock Index) &the RON (Research Octane No.)

Golden question: When we say a particular fuel say Extra Premium or Power is of 91 octane, which is the rating we are referring to? Does it mean that it is of the same 87 octane, but of RON 91?
I know that normal petrol is 87 octane. This seems to be the AKI.
What is the RON of normal fuel?
I know that ExtraPremium contains additives&friction busters etc.but does it mean that it is of a higher octane rating? Some say it is the same 87 octane. Please clarify.

Edit: Found this post on a car site, if you scroll down below, you will find that the RON for normal fuel seems to be 88 or 89, whereas for Speed91/Power/ExtraPremium it is 91. So is this the octane no.we are referring to?

Also given is a chart for choosing right petrol according to compression ratios.

                    Under 10: 1 - Normal Fuel
                    10:1 to 13.5 :1 - 91 Octane
                    13.5:1 to 17:1 - 97 Octane

I would like views from you guys on this!
After the implementation of New Auto policy (W.E.F 1.4.10), Euro 4 ( same as BS 4) grade of petrol and Diesel has been made mandatory in all metro cities. for the rest of India, Euro 3 is being implemented and Euro 2 grade is discontinued.

As per the Specification of Euro 3 and Euro 4, RON should be min 91 irrespective of premium or normal. The main difference in both grades are sulfur( Euro 3 - 150 ppm, Euro 4 -50 ppm).

The difference between premium grade and normal is, they add special additives which no way affects the RON.

AKI is the average of MON(motor octane number) and RON.

MON : This is similar to RON, except that the readings ( in laboratory testing) are measured at different RPM and Load condition. MON should be Min 81 in both euro 3 and Euro 4.

RON 88 which you mentioned in the thread is the specification of Euro 2 ( BS2) grade which no longer exists.

I using Hero Honda Hunk. I use normal petrol. But some guys say that Octane is better than Petrol as Octane is a purer version of Petrol. They also say that using Petrol will result in Carbon deposit in Silencer. Should I migrate to Octane?
