    • guys had gone to install k&n filter to my zmr. But ma mechanic who is one of the best in bangalore told me not to go for it as quality is not so good and suggested cosworth or a simota. I was shocked but l8r he explained. In the kn filter in da material just below the mesh wen observed carefully we find a lot of tiny holes which are provided for better quality sound. In time due to suction of air these holes grow big and fine dust particles enter da cylinder. But wen we saw dat of a simota or cosworth da material was totally different. And better quality. Wen i asked den y is k&n popular he gave a simple logic. It's marketing in india since past many years so brand is popular. But companies lik cosworth and simota have their own value cause dey manufacture utilities for rols royce (spelling error). Since dey recently started marketin here dey are still not famous. And wen i went to most of da shops dealing wit filtr dey all supported wit da fact dat these filters are indeed better dan k&n.. I was shocked but den i went for a simota. Its sound is much better and performance is brilliant. So next time u buy a filter better check quality of material below da mesh.. I would however advice cosworth or simota

      • ^ all free flow filter allow some amount of dust to be ingested by engine if compared with stock filters. Though I've also heard about the fact, you mentioned. But was not sure as I have not used them.

Yeah keeping that in mind only am retaining the filter box, the cover wont fit cause the Filter would be getting in the way. Direct carb bolt on is the best, but avoiding it cause of the issue's you've mentioned.

Cosworth is the best when it comes to Filtering, cause there are'nt any in necessary holed in the base. And Its not the regular oiled type, its a dry one, which can be washed and re used.

          • Have'nt done jetting yet, here's my final output.

Now the confusion is whether to go for 130 or 140 mains. Now without upjetting the bike performs well, acceleration is spot on and theres no missing issues. Though I feel a flat spot popping up for a millisecond here and there.

            • Hmm.. Quality job done.
flat spot is lean spot. Do update on performance & mileage figures (max & min both)
P.S. How much for the bigger jets??

                • help!

I want to install conical air filter on discover 135.
I don't want to destroy the airbox. So need to remove it completely. Here comes the problem of battery. How to tie the battery to supports and make sure it stays there?
Whenever i see bikes or cars i see adrenalin pumps instead of people carriers.Thats the way to define an automobile.

Make a custom clamp to keep it in place.

                      Thanks.
According to mileage test conducted at SVC with 400ml for petrol the result was 24.3Km's.
Me went for 130's and 140's, with 130's the output was good, but when keeping the throttle steady the bike'd surge for no reason, so went with 140 mains. Everything's been going well since, though the bike gets abit rich when hot, which I believe I took care of by setting AFR at 3.25 turns.
The jets are rebored ones, costs 250/- per piece.

Soak in soap water and then wash with water, and then let it dry.

And yeah, these are a few pics of my plug, after running 150+kms on stock mains and around 20~25Kms on 130mains.

                      • Guys, plz suggest me a stock replacement air filter for R15 V2. I wanted to go for Simota but have not been able to contact Joel (no replies). How good is Cosworth? It is available on planetdsg but the conical one. As it's not recommended to go for the conical one in a fi bike, where can i get the non conical one of cosworth online?

                            • Hi there for FZ 16 U can get a K&N direct replacement air filter from planet DSG in Pune camp.
The amazing thing about is U don`t have to change anything ,simply replace the filter with new K & N with the given instructions manual.

Here comes the million dollar question

I have a 20000 km old FZ-S fitted with a NGK Iridium spark plug and a K & N air filter. The k & N model is # YA1611 (got it thru a friend in US for $ 35 as it not yet launched in India..checked with the Distributor for India already). This is a dedicated one designed only for 153cc Yamaha exclusively. Neither the universal Round shaped one (RC 1060), nor the one used commonly for Pulsars(BA-2201). Pls see @ K&N YA-1611 - Performance Filters, Replacement Air Filter

I just removed the stock air filter and put the new K&N; it is designed in such a way that it is just a plug and play to the air filter box. No modifications required.

The query is: I have not done any re-jetting/re-tuning as of now. But I am feeling as if the engine (carb) requires some adjustment for optimal performance. But confused on how to do it ?

                                I have read somewhere (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post417901
