• Pipercross+VM28 for RE UCE350

Hi,

Don't know if this is the right forum to ask, b'cos I only see pulsars, karizmas and apaches, but I have an RE Thunderbird Twin Spark, and I wanted to try out the pipercross C0186F coupled with a VM28 carb.
Can anyone who has done this on an RE UCE 350 engine tell me is they have seen improvements in acceleration?

Can you also suggest larger jet sizes for the VM28 so I have a reduced set of jets to fiddle with?

I also need contacts in Hyderabad to up-jet the VM28 for the airfilter.
Please help out, any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anindyo Dutta

• Alternate air filters

I was planning to change the air filter on my honda dazzler.. And im still a little reluctant to use the k&n as some of my friends have had bad experiences.. Are there any performance oriented foam filters i can use?

All suggestions are welcome.

there is nothing called as a free ride.. you have to pay for greater airflow with lower milage and reduced components life.. thats how almost everything works unless you are doing a new engine and doing it with a lot of prior experience.

Im not looking for a free ride.. Im just looking for alternatives to a k&n filter.. Something performance oriented.. Not really worried about the mileage much.. Something's that locally available and easy to handle by ordinary mechanics.

• I believe K&n can only harm your performance through out the rpm range except may be at high rpm where u might gain some. The stock air box and length in most modern bikes are tuned to the engine which is lost when you fix the k&n directly to the carb. Even though the stock air box looks restrictive, it helps in boosting your air intake.

• K&N in a Pulsar 220F DTSi - To do or not to do?

Firstly @ Mods: This is my 1st thread so if I've posted in the wrong section, I ask for your forgiveness.

Now for the "duvidha" (quandary):

I have a Bajaj Pulsar 220F DTSi bought on 11th Sept. 2010. 1st service has been done. I had a Bajaj Pulsar 180 UG3 earlier which was modded to the hilt.
I am thinking of fitting a K&N air filter (R1100) to my 220.
Now, before you guys start thinking of telling me that my warranty will be void, I know that is the case. I'm prepared to let that go.
The actual "duvidha" is that have heard & also read somewhere that the 220 has a big enough carb, so I don't need to upjet the bike for use with my K&N. I wanted to know whether I'll still need to upjet if I do go for the K&N (which in most probability I will) & the other mods I might need to do.
Also would it be better to fit the K&N onto the carb or in place of the OEM filter? (is there a difference?)
What I'm looking at is better performance (read pick-up).
Really don't mind if the top-end is affected a bit as riding in Pune, don't get too many chances to touch 145kmph anyways!!!

So please experts (non-experts with some experience with a K&N plonked to their 220 as well for that matter) pour in your valuable suggestion & comments.

I did not mean it to be rude .

i meant that, when a k&N is used, there is bound to be a drop in milage.

the reason is not just the "rich mixture" but because once a k&N is fitted, ppl try to rip the bike hard cos thats what the k&n is fitted for. now the k&n at this time consumes a lot of fuel and hence the drop in milage. otherwise, if tuned properly, k&N does not do much harm. but it defiantely demand more attention and maintainance from the user.

but remember to get the perfect setting, it often takes 5-6 months of proper testing and patience. and here the problem starts cos most people want instant results which is not possible.

True... the complete air box,the filter, the length of the inlet manifold, everything is tuned for a specific engine's optimum performance.Any mod in this must be done with adequate knowledge..Please read this :

While most of XBHPians may not agree with this, the Nissan club had done extensive testing before publishing it . K&N does not have FACTUAL information, on controlled testing conditions..like Nissan club had done.

I have a 2004 model honda unicorn..i am a great fan of unicorn's revving sound when they are fitted with k&n filters..i really wanted that sound with my bike but around 2k was too much to ask frm me for a new k&n filter..however a friend of mine told me i'll get that sound simply by removing an air cleaner cap placed above the air cleaner..i did so and i got a sound very similar to what i like with k&n filters.!! Now i would like to knw if there is any harm caused to the engine or the air filter without using that air cleaner cap.? Because i dont want to cause any harm to my engine..i love my unicorn very much.!
