  • Crazy idea -- I want to go touring on a scooter !

    Hi all !!
I know this sounds very very crazy , But i want to know is there a scooter in india which I can use for touring ? I had a Kinetic Blaze sometime back ( I still do but it does not work anymore - got stuck in the monsoon floods and ever since the bike is damaged by rust et all ) and it was great for touring , but they have stopped manufacturing it and no spares are also available. Are there any other scooters which could be used for touring ?

Are you serious about this question? There's Activa to Pleasure available for touring. IMO, one can do touring on any scooter provided they've time & patience.

Contrary to what most people said I would still maintain that there are NO power scooters available in India. Blaze was probably the first and sadly the last one for it in the recent times.

There are people who have toured on a ported Activa/Dio uptil Leh from Mumbai... its probably more to do with thier ability, than the scoots!

I know a guy (50 year old) who went to Kanyakumari from Maharashtra, with luggage and his wife on a M80! Yeah you read it right!!! But that doesnt make a M80 a touring moped either

I hope someone comes up with a product like that! I would love to own one for city thrills!

+1. I would love to see a power scooter from Japs or from SYM.

Blaze was good for touring with bigger engine and very very comfortable sofa seating, hindered only by 6L fuel tank and inferior quality.

So is it possible to go touring on the Honda Activa ? ( I rather prefer the Mahindra Rodeo due to it's 125cc engine) BUT I have never heard anyone having done that. Is a 125cc scoot able to take 200 to 300 kms a day ? Or will it break down and leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere.

It won't break down my friend, only thing is you'll take a longer time to cover the same distance, since you cannot maintain a high cruising speed.
Example: When I had my 5 year/50K kms.old Kinetic Campus Chill, I cruised at 50kmph and still toured for about 200kms. It would have been much quicker on a bike, but my engine wasn't stressed out all. On some stretches I took it to 70kmph too (max speed).
You can tour on any motored vehicle, just that you need to know its capability&adjust the riding speed&halts accordingly.
I think you can maintain 60kmph on the Activa-I have ridden it a lot recently&its a very fine engine. You can take it upto 80kmph on certain stretches, but bring it back to 60kmph. Give the engine a halt every 100kms.or so. Don't be impatient-keep to your own speed&enjoy the ride. The bike will respond very well.
                    Quench my thirst with gasoline!

200 to 300 km? sometime back in 1990, a record was made when a Kinetic Honda was ridden day & night non-stop for 1001 hours+
Modern scooters like the Activa are much better due to technological improvements. There have been some xBhpians who have toured extensively on scooters.

I and a friend of mine have done doubles trip on a 5 yr. old honda activa that's already clocked 68k KMs from Bengaluru to Madikeri. Lemme add that we both weigh around 80 Kgs each and carried some luggage as well.

We started off from Bengaluru at around 8 AM and reached Kushal Nagar which is around 215 KMs on Day 1 and on Day 2, we started off from Kushal Nagar, then to Madikeri and then Thalecauvery and back to Bengaluru, total distance covered being approx. 400 KMs in a span of around 15 hrs, which includes the time spent for lunch/dinner and lots of fag breaks and sightseeing.
You just need to ensure that the engine does not overheat. A 10 min break for each 60-70 Kms travelled should suffice. Also ensure that you don't immediately switch off the engine when halting. Let it idle for a while and then turn it off.
Some of the Happiest people in the world don't have everything. They just make the best of everything life brings their way !!! Stay happy, Smile always :)

@ Thread starter - i have travelled from panajim- goa to nippani approximately 160 kms via sawantwadi, amboli ghat on my mahindra rodeo and again we were two of them weighing approximately 170 kgs, but i dint felt the bike choking to death at any point of time let it be ghats or continuous running.
again the seats of rodeo are too comfortable for tall riders, the only issue i had faced was regarding the fuel as the fuel tank is 4 liters, so had to refill tank in nippani.

Apart from that its a great scooterate , one worthy investment as i did the same trip on aviator and i ended with a bad back pain

reading all the above posts makes me go like "wow" really appreciate the patience one has to endure on such a journey on a scooter...

as sarvajith said, maintain decent speeds as to not get the engine heated up and proper breaks, then all is good to go
