So I finally learned how to ride a bike . I learned it on my friends Unicorn.I was quite surprised as it hardly took any time to get the hang of it.It took me not more than 20 mins to understand the system. It was pretty similar to a car.And yes about the weight, it didnt matter that I was under weight. I was learning with a pillion whose 70 kgs. That adds up alot of weight but riding it was a breeze.

However ive been pondering for sometime now.. I did metion the Activa ( scooter ) in my first post as a preference..but somehow none of you friends suggested it..nor even considered it..why so ?..is it that bad ?..coz i did ride the scooter all over Goa for 3 days and I felt that it was very comfortable and handy...more of a utility type of a vehicle.

Bro, anyday a bike is better than a scooty/scooter. Let me put it this way. When I got my first bike , I was also very apprehensive over the weight of the bike and/or the riding that it requires. But believe me, no matter what bike you take you will get used to it and will have no problem driving . I have seen ppl weighing 60 odd kilos ride karizmas and P220s. Dnt worry abt that.

Abt the scooter v/s bike thing , see you are 21 , you would like to be seen on something beautiful, sporty and manly . This is my personal opinion that if u take an activa today after 2-3 months when you see an FZ zip past you , you would wanna be that hunk-kind-of-a-guy and say "God ! Why didnt I buy that?!"

Go for the FZ eyes closed. It is a premium bike, but beleive me, it is worth every penny.

Alrite..so I finally visited a showroom called ' Kamla Yamaha ' in lower parel,Mumbai.Nice fellow who explained me everything he could about the bike and gave me the necessary information. He showed me the bike however it was parked out side the showroom in the dark and was surrounded by other bikes waiting to be delivered.

He said that the bike comes with optional kickstart but is not needed..can anyone shed light on this ?...what if the bike refuses to start if I dont use it in the monsoon's ?..should i get the kick start installed before only ?..

And any other tips or formalities that I should be knowing before I sign on the dotted line ?..( Never bought a bike before. When it comes to cars you can always bargain for small stuff like mud guards, carpets etc lol ...just asking! )

Check out twister. It is reliable as it is a Honda. Although the rear tyre looks awful but does its job well. P135 is also a good machine.

if you want comfort for pillion also dont go for FZ, small seating space for pillion. For comfort Unicorn, dazzler, gs150r is better.
in base of look and comfort dazzler is better choice.
              go for it.

Now i need to buy myself a helmet...the guy at the showroom quoted helmets around 1200 -3500 Rs. Brand was Vega helmet's. I am aware of this reputed brand. However i asked a friend in college about his helmet and he said he got it for 400 Rs from somewhere in Andheri-Jogeshwari belt. Now i dont want to go for such cheap ones..my budget is 2 - 2.5 K....any suggestions for good original and not duplicate ones which should protect my empty skull ?

Also suggest where to buy them from.Im based in Mumbai.

You can try out Funkies,Bandra. Linking road, straight inside the KFC lane and then take a left. the range starts from 1k. Or buying from the showroom itself isnt much of a problem, unless they stock those typical "KIMI" helmets,u get those for 400 bucks maybe. In safe and responsible riding we trust
                    Cheers.

I own a pulsar220f, i rode my friends fz a few weeks ago, walked away very impressed by it's road handling and grip, those 140 rear tyres arent just for show. The bike's so quiet I had to revv hard to hear the engine, congrats on your first bike.Do a proper running in. Ride safe, sometimes the urge to display our riding skills infront of others is very strong, sometimes others provoke you to ride hard on busy city roads.During these times and others just remember you have loving parents waiting for you at home.

Go for Gpr full face helmets, they cost around 2k.

                        Thankyou guys !

So I finally got my bike on Saturday, 2 october 2010. Yes, on Mahatma Gandhi's birthday I gifted myself a black Yamaha FZ 16..
I didn't get to ride it much though. Its been 4 days now and I have managed only 12 km...but for those 12 km I enjoyed my first motorcycle thoroughly. I will be posting a new comer's point of view of acquiring a new motorcycle soon...till then.. I would like to thank all the xbhp member's for their expert opinion.
                        Take care.

Thank you for advice.I brought the helmet from funky's in Bandra. By the way...the shop has now shifted temporarily to another location not too far from the original place. There are sign boards on the same road so you know where to find it..

Thanks bro !... I bought myself a vega boolean..its more of a multi-purpose helmet ..and about the riding fast thing.. I don't dare to do that since I just have a riding experience of 3 days..and I'm not one of the thrill seeking people..but ill surely keep your words in mind !..
