  • To buy or not to buy ?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this community but still not a part of it completely.I have nothing to share nor to say about bike's.Its only because I dont have one.But now I wish to buy a two wheeler not just to be a part of the community(that would be stupid) but for my usual roundabout's.

    following are some details:

    Age: 21
    Height : 5'8" [Short]
    Weight : 56 kgs [ Underweight ]
    Occupation : Student
Purpose of two wheeler : Commuting for short distance's ONLY
    Travelling/day : 10-15 kms
Experience on two wheeler : 0% ( I have not ridden a two wheeler in my 21 years of existence.Only bicycle )

    Vehicle that I liked

    1.Honda Activa -

1.Short Learning Curve ( As told to me by others )
    2.Can hold a helmet
    3.Decent/Gentle look's
4.40+ Average ( As read in this forum )

    2.Yamaha FZ -

    1.Looks
2.Fuel economy -Okaish ( As read in this forum )

I was going to buy an activa initially but my dad suggest's otherwise. He's suggesting a motor cycle rather than a scooter.

My question is ....Should a new comer like me,jump onto a full blown bike such as an FZ ?..( PS: i didnt like the commuter bikes )

And since im not a speed freak nor a stunt man...any good suggestions of certain bikes that are sporty, safe and RELIABLE since I wont be looking at changing it for a long time.

    Requirements :

1.Relatively Smooth bike ( Less vibrations, less noise etc etc )
    2.Comfortable for rider and pillion
    3. Safe ( Nice grip on the road )
    4.Should look a little sporty.
    5.40 + Average
    6.RELIABLE

PS: Very very sorry for the long post..I just didn't want to miss out on the info. This is going to be my first and last bike..thats why the details.

    Thankyou

The only con is slightly low FE, and any 150cc in India can keep up with its counterpart as far as twisting the right hand goes. But then flat out performance isn't what you are looking at, right?

FZ is a very forgiving Motorcycle thanks to its great dynamic ability and good feedback from brakes. Delights novices & pros alike for this nature.
It suits you just fine and gets my vote.

Considering your weight height and requirement i would not suggest you any 150 cc....
note considering your weight Vs bike weight am not suggesting the 150cc super stars

so my top 3 list based on mileage, performance and look
          1. Pulsar 135 LS
          2. Checkout Stunner
          3. Checkout Slingshot if you want something looks different.

The fz is a very good bike for novice riders due to its ease of handling ,etc. It is worth going for the same. But why dont you try unicorn. Its a very decent bike for newbies.

guys, aren't u considering the point "comfort for pillion"?

as far as i know, FZ lacks it(though i didn't ride it)... thatz y i suggested Dazzler and Hunk...

if u r good at riding a bicycle, i.e. u can take to crowded areas with ease, are not shaken by oncoming traffic and believe that u can handle the extra work of shifting gears then i think u can easily opt for a bike. however if the answer to any one of the questions here is a "no" then i would advise a scooter.

among the bikes i would suggest u start with a 125cc or lower. remember that it's better to be the master of the bike you own than to be just an owner. ppl who say that u can directly jump to bigger cc's are the one's who are trying to convince themselves and others about their wrong decision. amongst the 125cc i would advise the cbf stunner since u r still 21. if u do wanna opt for a fz then i would advise u to try riding somebody's smaller cc bike for a few weeks to see if u can indeed handle the added initial pick up of the fz

if u wanna opt for a scoot then i would advise u to take a look at the tvs wego, it's got some good features under it's belt
                The purpose of biking -
100cc- to get from point A to point B
                125cc- to get there fast
150cc- to have some fun while getting there
200+cc- to start from point A and forget when point B passed by

It's not the ride but the rider that matters!

1.Relatively Smooth bike - Both are smooth . FZ is smoother than most
                  bikes in competition ,
2.Comfortable for rider and pillion - Activa is the call here . Pillion seat of
FZ is a joke unless the pillion is your girlfriend
                  3. Safe (Nice grip) - Well FZ wins over here . Sharp, agile and good
                  rubbers,
4.Should look a little sporty - Do we need to tell u that FZ has the best
                  meaty macho looks
5.Reliable - Both are reliable . Yamaha n Honda (Though
I hate poor mag wheels of FZ)
                  Picturesque Bidar

Your post and particularly the Quoted last line reminded me of my own thoughts 5 yrs back.
                    I weigh 48Kgs, Height 5 nothing ( u think u r short?)
                    hence i went in for a Splendor + with a 3yr loan.
(i had learned to ride six months prior on a borrowed Kinetic Challenger)
Two years into the loan, the rider in me made me prepay the loan, sell the HH and pick up a used P-180 UG3.

Well,it seems like many votes are for the FZ and I too somewhat like the bike. Though never ridden it.

Spoke to a few friends of mine and they too suggested the FZ/FZs over a scooter any day !.. However they also pointed out that the FZ's lacks a kick start which may come in handy sometimes.I checked the website for the FZ's and it said its optional..im not clear with the option term..does it mean that I can only have one of the two ?

And what about the service centre's ?..My friends told me they are few as compared to Honda. I'm situated in Navi Mumbai.

Ill be learning how to ride a bike on my friends Unicorn in a few days from now.

FZ is a good bike for a newbie as it has good balance & braking but it lacks comfortable pillion seat n good FE..you can also consider CBF Stunner as you are new in biking world & also its FE will keep you happy ..other choices would be new hunk(gonna release soon) or Uni Dazzler..
