  • [Photo Feature]: Independence Day ride: 6 Days exploration of less known Andhra

आजाद.... Well for 6 odd days we were free birds in destinations less known in Andhra. Starting in the wee hours of Independence Day,
2012 we rode through some of the best places around here in AP and concluded our ride on Eid.

Here are some details of the trip and a few teasers

    Cast and Crew:
Dhiraj Prakash(Juris) on pimped up R15,
    Vinfred Christopher on Ninja 250R

    Route Map-

Day 1: August 15th(Independence Day)Hyderabad- Eturnagaram- Manuguru- Badrachalam. 355 Kms
Highlight rode through Medaram Tadavi forest on one side and Godavari on other.

    Day 2: Badrachalam--Sileru --Chintapalle--Paderu--Araku. 323Kms,

Arguably the best day of the trip... Rode through the untouched section of Northern Andhra... With miles of Coffee plantations
on one side and paddy fields, river and misty mountains on the other side, it was a treat to ride through Alluri forest range....
Clouds passing by on hill top close to Chintapalle was a pleasant experience... and so was riding besides canal and waterfalls....

Day 3:Araku exploration. Explored Araku, Borra Caves, Ananthagiri hills, waterfalls, Tribal museum and Coffee Museum.
    120 Kms

A lazy day at Araku.... Woke up to enjoy the serene surrounding of lush green fields, trees, mountains and clouds....
The good thing or bad thing about the ride was the heavy downpour in which we enjoyed the curves of Araku, Borra
Caves, Ananthagiri hills and a few waterfalls.

    Day 4: Araku--Vizag--Rajahmundry 330 Kms

Rode through the hills of Araku in heavy downpour.... Later enjoyed a sluggish ride along coastal Andhra...

    Day 5: Rajahmundry--> Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary--> Kakinada--> Rajahmundry
Sudden change of plans and we decided to explore relatively unknown Mangrove forests in Coringa and sailed to Gowthami -
Bay of Bengal Delta..Not to forget the lush green(rice bowl of Andhra) stretch that welcomed us to Kakinada.

    Day 6: Rajahmundry--Vijaywada-- Hyderabad. 450 Kms
Well every good thing comes to end. With NH5 in top notch condition, we reached outskirts of Hyderabad by afternoon.
Was happy to have Biryani in my city on Eid

Once the thread is approved, I ll upload the remaining pics day by day.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

            Day 1- Hyderabad--Warangal--Eturnagaram--Manuguru--Badrachalam
355Kms , NH202(A bliss to ride) till Eturnagaram, Manuguru to Badrachalam route has a evenly balanced mixture of best and worst roads... Beware of the road that crosses
            Paper factory.
PS:Covered Forests, ghat and temple. Recommended accommodation at Badrachalam- Punnami Bhadrachalam, which has covered parking and reasonable rates.

Our first pit stop close to Warrangal

As we approached Eturnagaram, we found a stream that reached the same level of road. Funny thing was every guy that approached that stream,
slowed down and went for a free car/bike wash. Behti ganga mein apni gaadi dho lo

bro, the teaser is really good. and best thing in your day one ride is this: "behti ganga mei gaadi dhona" , a very rare pic.
i think this is the best time to ride thru this route. especially the araku valley and coastal AP, waiting eagerly to see the pics.

                Day 1 Continued.....

At our next pit stop we saw a school by our side. It was Independence Day and the students and teachers were busy in Independence Day celebrations. Requested them to take a few pictures of flag and celebrations and recollected our school days celebrations. Soon we were mobbed by curious kids and we had fun time with them.

                My salute

And we saw bunch of curious kids... Spot our bikes

As we approached Eturnagaram Forest, we saw many water bodies crossing road. One of that...

The next pit stop was really interesting.... It was a tri color bridge. It was Independence Day and as we approached the bridge,
it appeared we are approaching and infinitely long flag. The illusion was pleasing to the eyes.

Ride on NH202 via dense forest till Eturnagaram was fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride through Medaram Tadavi Forest range.

                        Moi..

Gorrilla pod for video- Very handy

Towards the end of Manuguru, we came across a closed Colliery. Few pics

By afternoon we reached Bhadrachalam, the holy town. This town is situated on the banks of Godavari and it was in full bloom (monsoons). We freshened up quickly, had a quick lunch and went on to explore Godavari. We had a good photography session. Later we went to the main attraction- Ram Temple(Bhadrachalam was where Ram and Sita spent their time in exile).

We had an eventful ride on Day 1. Had loads of fun and rode through decent stretch except for Manuguru. Next day was a tough ride through Alluri forest range and we were very much looking forward for that... BRB with second day pics

                          Day 2- Badrachalam-- Sileru-- Chintapalle-- Paderu--Araku 323Kms.
Toughest ride of the trip. Major chunk of the journey was on dilapidated road going in the middle of Alluri Sitaramaraju Forest Area. Not to mention that this was
most scenic and undisturbed section of Andhra that we came across. From Badrachalam to Sileru the road is a rider's paradise and we encountered best twists and
curves(roads). Post Sileru, the road is pathetic and goes all the way to Paderu. Post Paderu the route is decent till Araku. We had to ride this entire stretch in rain.
PS: Covered forests, waterfalls, misty mountains, stretches of hills, coffee plantations and most scenic places of the trip. Since, Sileru to Paderu is a hot area(read
naxal zone), it is recommended to cross that route before dark. Networks won't work in most of the stretch and at times the nearest hospitals would be 20-30 kms away.
Recommended accommodation at Araku- APTDC Hills View,APTDC Mayuri,APTDC Anathagiri and APTDC Tyda Jungle Bells(another experience staying in the middle of
jungle). They have proper parking within compound.
                          Route Map"

Since we were not sure about visibility and surrounding, we skipped starting for Araku in wee hours of morning. We started around 7 and the immediate stretch was an
heavenly route. We rode through a jungle with little bit of habitation. We stopped at a small temple, paid homage for safe journey ahead and moved on.

Soon we were NH221. It was a bliss to ride on till we entered Alluri Forest range. We stopped post an unfortunate event.
I ran over a piglet and stopped to ponder over it

                          [IMGhttp://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/q705/CJuris/Day%202/IMG_5838_zpsa4fb25e8.jpg[/IMG]

Soon we entered Alluri forest range. We were aware of bad roads or no roads. More than that we were aware of the awesomeness ahead. Truly the best part of Andhra we explored till date. We stopped for "walk the talk pics" at a narrow bridge entering a village.

In the Alluri forest range, we came across a Canal and roads by it's side. We had a mixed ride till the canal. Initially we had decent tarmac and the best of the twisties, I ever encountered. Later, road turned into off road stretch. It was a good break at canal.
Just men, machines and raw nature.
