  • Helpppppp!!! Apache 180/160 RD/ Dazzler?

    Hi Guys,

I am currently on the hunt for my first bike and like so many of us...i am also lost in the race! ...I took test ride of Apache RTR 160 (RD), Dazzler, and pulsar....I have to go for the test ride of RTR 180 too. I am confused with this lot of bikes...the question is again the same...which one to buy!!...I have practically went over all the useful 34 pages of discussions, but I could not find the answer for my requirements:

    Requirements:
-Mileage should be decent enough (40+),
    -lesser maintenance
    -decent power
-should be good enough for a local tour of around 200 km
-the bike will be used for a daily commute of around 20 odd Km daily for office...

-Also...my job requires me to be out of bangalore for like a month or two for few times in a year..so need something that can start without trouble after remaining untouched for a month atleast...

    My details:
    Height: 5'6"
    Weight: 65 well built
    Age: 27
    budget - <80k

It will be my first bike...so you can understand my mental state!!!

my personal experiences based on the test ride:

Apache 160 - It gives you wings! Real power with just a twist of throttle...Confusion is...i am not sure on how reliable is the TVS engine...not sure on the battery reliability..will it start after a month of lying idle? Also..as per few threads...TVS doesnt give warranty on its components like battery...spark plugs...tires....is it a problem? Also..how is the resale value of an apache? I heard it is really bad!? also one more thing is i am little nervous about the comments on the apache seatig posture! i am a IT consultant...so as usual my job requires me to sit continously for whole day!...but i am also a religious gym member! Will touring on apache be an issue for my back??? am little scared...compared to 180, how good is 160 apache for touring? when i rode the apache for half a Km test drive..i didnt feel any discomfort...maybe because of my first sight love for the power of this bike!
As per the TVS guy, they said Fi model has been discontinued...any gyan on this?? Is rear disc so much needed?

Dazzler: looks ok to me...nothing great though....seating is also fine...but its quite boring i felt...power is good....throttle response is also good..ride is comfortable..but the issues are...without kick...how will i start the bike after 1 month? it comes with a maintenance free battery so does it mean there wont be any issues? the waiting period for accessories is also really high...

Pulsar...ride is good...but i dont want to be just one more pulsar in the crowd!...so this option is gone

Please help me out!!!!!!!!!!! i know there are many questions posted by me...but pleeeeeeeaseeeee help me out..

    thankkkks so much to xbhpians!

IMO A-180 will suit the best

        Go for RTR180.......

        D.I.Y-Valve clearance setting RTR180
        D.I.Y-RTR180 brake fluid replacing/brake bleeding
        D.I.Y-RTR180 brake pad replacing/cleaning

          go for the menace

If you like the power of the 160, you WILL love the power of the RTR180,
also it takes out the problem of battery dying because it has a kick start.
It will give you 40+ mileage with proper running in and enough care.
You will get accustomed to the seating posture of the 180 after some Kms.
As for the cons, the service will be a not so happy experience for most of us here except for some gifted people(like chicane) but if you take enough care of it, It will give you back. And since it is your first bike, I'm guessing you'll have it for some time, so don't fret about the resale value.

          P.S. : I'm too much of a fanboy of the RTR 180.

            take the rtr 180..
            negligible maintainence,
and a good fuel efficiency for a 180,
the engine and gearbox is better than the pulser but not as good as honda.. but is good.. (on a contrary note, my friend has the 160 and his gearbox is still as good as a honda)

            dont know about the spares..

i own a hunk having essentially an honda gearbox. and as per me, the rtr s a very good bike if you like the size and shape of the bike which is strictly your choice..

Had I been in this kind of confusion, I would have selected A180 without any second thought...! But, My list is bigger than this lol

Dude, don't worry abt TVS engine... It would be better than what u think of... My star city has never given problems till date (It is 3+ years old)...

If you maintain it well, you will get more than what you expect.. Also, as a newbie, I hope, u will not be ripping it hard, often... Take care of the bike in the RUN-IN, then you can do what ever you want with A180

+1 for that.. most 4 stroke engiens these days do not require any more maintainance than oil change and tappet adjustments after every 4000 kms.

                            congratz man.
you might need some time to adjust to the crappy rear tyre. other than that, owning A180 in bangalore must be a pleasure. and mind you, although people have not complained, but apache is a pure track tool. It isnt the best choice if you plan to go for long rides.
also, as john samuel has already said, do not go to the service centre without any ammo
