  • Upgrading from Shine for performance

    HI

I have taken Honda shine about 3 months back and completed 1800KM. I am quiet satisfied with it, in mileage,Looks and Comfort. The max speed it can go is only 60, that too hardly.
I am planning to upgrade from it to Either Unicorn/Uni Dazzler.
I asked for the exchange, they qoted me 51K for the shine(Either Cash/exchange),rest I have to pay

    Requirements:
    Budget: 65K to 70K Max
Riding:City 25KM per day .No highway riding
Mileage: Best mileage in the segment
My Height: little over 5'10". (67KG)

    Questions
    1. Is it worth upgrading from Shine to UNI/UNI Dazzler?
    2. Which one should I go for from the above two?
    3. Is the 51k for 3 months old bike a good deal?
    4. How much performance differece I can see from SHine to Uni?
Please suggest me as I need to get it fast, If I have to

Even a 10 year old Splendor can do 60+ and an Activa too could comfortably do that ..

I think there is either a problem with your bike, or it may be a function of the roads where you commute that you cannot get to 60+ speeds, as you mentioned that you dont ride on the highway ..

The bikes that you have mentioned for considering are decent 150CC mills from Honda ..
However, if outright performance is not your requirement and if mileage is an important consideration, then I would suggest you to stick around with the Shine.

Just that change your service center or ask for a replacement of the bike , if your 3 month old bike indeed doesn't do 60+ !

Well you just want to know which is best for you out of the two hondas

If you are a family commuter who bothers pillon riders comfort then go for cb unicorn else dazzler remember it does not have a kicker

Today I tested the same, I was able to reach the 65 mark with some vibrations ( Had to slow down as the empty road ended) .

            Is that fine?

Also I wanted to upgrade as my Shine will start doing noise after 55KMPH

that's strange AFAIK shine has same engine which stunner has..i haven't rode a shine yet but stunner is capable of doing speed around 100..so i guess shine should do the same as well..

but stunner is capable of doing speed around 100 oh really.. cross 65kmph.. it will literally shake you off the bike.. it would be appropriate to say.. somehow manages to touch 100.. rather than capable of doing speed around 100.

TS.. I would suggest you to stick with Shine, if you are using the bike within city.. that too you mentioned didn't find a open stretch to cross 65kmph.. then what's the need for 150cc?? Shine is a very good bike within city and as long as you keep it below 60-65 kmph..

If you are hell bent on changing the bike.. then consider Discover 150 (if and only if you are not allergic to Bajaj bikes ) as your usage is going to be in city.

Shine easily achieve speed of 85 kmph, after that mark it struggles a bit too reach 100 kmph mark, there is a prob with ur bike.Asap report this too svc adn if they act strange, HONDA MAIL SYSTEM is ur part of game

Buddy.. 90kmph is where the needle stops on a Shine.. whatever you do.. it'll simply not do more than that..

bro i didn't say that stunner is capable of doing 100k's "effortlessly"..it takes much effort while squeezing it to reach somewhere around 100(on speedo), & on 65kmph it atleast feels better then other 125cc bikes..so i expect shine to perform like wise it as well..

My question here is that why am I getting huge vibrations at 70KMPH?

Also, Two days back I got my bike serviced. He changed the oil in front of me ( The one he removed is very dark and thick. The one he pored in is light, yes it's a sealed one)..I notice an increase in bike sound.. Is this normal? or am I expecting too much from 3 months old bike?

because it's a 125 cc bike and you want to run it like a 180-220 cc bike..

When you were about to buy Shine, I told you that Shine's engine will vibrate after 60 kmph. Seems you have'nt paid much attention to that. To reduce the vibrations a bit, you can do some modifications as below.
                            • Use Stunner's handlebar with handle bar weights.
                            • Use handle bar rubbers from Unicorn. Shine and Stunner do not have these rubbers and hence the vibrations directly pass to the handle. I did this modification to Stunner with great results. The vibrations have almost gone, except minor vibrations at 70 kmph, which will subside after 75 kmph.

Shine goes to 60 kmph very quick and after that strains a lot to go to higher speeds. It can do 95 to 100 kmph (needle indicated) on a long road with no ascent; thats the top speed of Stunner.

If you do not want vibrations at all, go ahead with Unicorn. Gives good mileage and a great city bike.

Having owned a Shine myself I can tell you that it will shake your arms off once you cross 60kmph. It will reach 90kmph on a long stretch with the throttle pinned to full open. By the time you're done with that you'll want to stop and wait for the feeling to return to you hands.

It's a nice bike provided you use it only in the city, it will easily dash up to 60kmph and has good mileage. The engine is smooth till about 60 too. It will make some tappet noise once run in and there's nothing much that can be done about it. (Had the tappets set once, caused the engine to feel strained for a number of kilometers after which the noise returned and performance was back.)

Going in for a UNI or Dazzler will definitely get you a more relaxed bike if you're looking for city riding, but it won't be a huge increase. Then again, see for yourself, you're the best judge of your own needs.
